It really depends....some long running series are a continuous story, so it makes sense for start with a good entry point. Others are pretty unconnected, so it doesn't really matter. This is the biggest factor for me. First thing I'll check if a new game comes out in a long running series I have yet to get into is to see if it's a continuation of another game in the series.
Neither of these are good, so it's a matter of picking the least ugly one, and that red on the EU/JA one is too much. Looks like they are trying to sell a Virtual Boy game.
I'd love to see a port of this to have the whole series on Switch.
Many of the issues people bring up about porting just seem like not actually issues besides the cost involved. I emulated the Japanese version (relax, I own and played the NA version) and everything was functional with an Xbox controller. The GamePad stuff was a screen switch, like bringing up a pause menu and the online features were patched for solo play (everything that required other people was scaled down to be able to be completed solo). If the emulation community can do this, there's no reason they couldn't legit port it. The biggest difference being the cost of actually porting and patching it.
Odyssey 2? Or you mean Mario 64 3? Odyssey just felt like a 64 sequel to me. Sure it expanded on the 3D some and looks pretty, but it didn't feel like it did anything really new. Lets go back to Subcon for the next game, it's been far too long
European with that black border always loses. It looks terrible, like they didn't know how to scale the picture so they just threw a boring, black border around it.
Like many others, I wonder how it compares to Xenoblade X. XCX had an amazing world that I truly loved exploring, probably my favourite open world to explore. And truth be told, I didn't like it when I got my Skell and didn't use it unless I had to. I just loved walking through that world.
I don't really care. I rarely ever watch them, because there's a lot in them I'm not interested in. I just catch the breakdowns after and pick out the stuff I am interested in. So, really doesn't make a difference to me if they do or don't, I'm getting my Nintendo news in short snippits anyway.
I always find in curious people are okay with seeing the inside of people, blood, guts, gore while at the same time and in the same game/movie, are appaled at seeing the outside of people, even if its just bumcheeks.
Too much missing for this price point. Master System and Game Gear games could/should have been on this, even as just roms. Coupled with Sonic 3K having different music, it's just not worth it to me. I love these games, but I'll stick with the versions I have.
Oddly, the 'bad' point of not being able to play Sonic 3 or S&K on their own doesn't bother me at all. They were technically released separately, but they are one game together as was the original intention. Sonic 3 A.I.R. is the, IMO, the single best way to play Sonic 3K. It's a mod on PC (that requires a Steam obtained legal ROM) that allows you to go even further and put these games back the way they were before the split (levels in the original, different order, that actually flows better). Highly recommended.
I am so excited for this game. This series has become my favourite in recent years and I can't wait for this. I love the worlds, the lore, the characters, the battles, how deliciously complicated they can be. XC2 was a masterpiece, IMO, best game on the Switch thus far, so this one has the bar set high for me. Can't wait to see how this ties in with the first two.
I hate that every open world game gets compared to BotW now. BotW neither did it first, nor was it the first to do it right, nor is it the de facto gold standard. I loved BotW, but jeez...
Otherwise, I dunno, Sonic looks like Sega wanting to get on the open world bandwagon with Sonic. The realistic look is what kills it for me. Why doesn't the world look like a Sonic world? This looks like Sonic in a modded Skyrim or something.
The realistic graphics are a big turn off for me here. Now if this looked like Green or Emerald Hill zone with bright colours and a Sonic aesthetic, I'd be far more pumped.
@Wilforce Tails operates more or less like Sonic, so he's easier to put in. Knuckles has different mechanics, not least of which is a lower jump that aren't easily transferred to a game made solely for Sonic. Any reworking to make him usable is further compounded because the stages in Sonic CD all have 3 different versions (past, present and future) and all would have have to have the rework done. It'd be a big undertaking to put him in a game that was never designed with him in mind.
I am not one of those people. It's just not worth it. I get expansions for games I don't play (MK8, I do, but I just bought the tracks) and emulation that's far inferior to whats been available for free for years (I'm speaking of the emaultors available which are legal, not the ROMs themselves). There's just no value in it at all for me. The basic online still lacks even basic functionality, so why would I get this? I love Nintendo and the Switch....but they are woefully behind in online services, in my opinion.
@BloodNinja Couldn't have said it better myself. Games are being preserved, by a community of fans that do so. And not just the games themselves, there are alphas, betas and other various versions of games preserved forever within the emulation community. And without intention of profit.
I'll check it out before buying it. Honestly, I got so tired of waiting for Sonic 3+K to make it to modern consoles, I just got it on Steam and then got Sonic AIR to go with it, which as far as I'm concerned is the ultimate way to play these games. Even remaking these games in a modern engine doesn't cover what Sonic AIR has done for them. That being said, the only temptation here is the Switch itself and having them portable.
This is over the top, Nintendo needs to relax a bit when it comes to this stuff. Their IPs being used in games is one thing, but come on, this is an out of print, old guide being preserved. If they really wanted to stop this stuff, they'd offer it up themselves as then there'd be no need for anyone else to do it.
Wow, something I never thought would happen, being fantastic games with licensing issues. What a fantastic collection, with the arcade versions to boot! I'll be grabbing this for sure!
Shutting down the eshop, online play and those features are one thing and fully expected. A redownload server should be up indefinitely. This is the sole reason i haven't and won't embrace digital anywhere near the extent of PC. I prefer digital for the convenience and ease, but why would I buy a game on a Nintendo console digitally if that game is available on PC and I will have none of the limitations?
The shop is closing. This is expected for dead systems. You can still download your purchases. Though Nintendo will likely shut that down too at some point, but that's not what this is. That's something the consoles need to catch up to PC with for digital purchases. Shut down the storefront, whatever, just let me redownload my purchased games if I need to.
Nintendo is woefully behind on the digital front, which is why I haven't embraced it as much for their system. Their sales, comparatively, are awful. There's nothing in place for having your purchases linked to your account, and therefore carry forward to a new system. And not only that, they're tied to the specific Switch you have. I have no aversion to digital, but until Nintendo and the others set it up like it is on Steam, it's just not worth it (and why I buy PC first). I have games on Steam I bought years ago that are still available to me (despite some of them being pulled from the storefront). It's been a couple generations, and I've had several different machines over that time frame and not once have I had any issue accessing or playing any of the games I've bought. Consoles need to take an approach similar to that, IMO (admittedly, I'm not sure where Sony and Microsoft are on this stuff now, but I know Nintendo is nowhere even close).
I'm of the same sentiment that Microsoft buying them is the far better option than Facebook, Google, Apple or any of those other companies. Sounds like Microsoft left the console war as well and is focusing on a new one to keep the others out. (Perhaps Activision-Blizzard will release on Xbox, Nintendo, Playstation and Steam but never on anyone else?)
So, basically what anyone would realistically think. Nintendo is going for a full console life cycle with it, so this is realistic. Doesn't matter when they release it to me. I'll enjoy the Switch until the next Nintendo console comes out.

It's a lackluster service with the absolute minimum effort put into it that they get away with because they toss handfuls of retro games on it every once in a while. I'd pay more for a better service with actual modern features sooner than a handful of retro games and DLC for a game I don't play.
Not having played this at all, how well does it work as an offline single player game? I've played quite a few MMO's and they were built for parties and well...massive amounts of people. They'd be empty, barren and boring without the other people. Does DQX already have a solid single player campaign?
I remember some of the people here who bashed the Switch constantly before it even came out. I'm pretty sure at least one notable person who was doing that is still here but has since changed their name/new account (presumably to hide from embarrassment of being so wrong).
My only concern with the Switch was the on board storage. And it still is pretty awful. Back then, I could understand not using on board SSD, but a slot in the unit for an SSD would have done wonders more than the SD they went with. Any successor models going forward should have SSD (preferably expandable).
I mostly only keep or buy games from my childhood that I have great nostalgia for. And its a cool novelty thing when my old friends come over, to fire up the old games we used to play in the actual system. Otherwise, Switch is the only thing I buy physical for now and only then when a game is massive without much replay value to save on space. Otherwise, everything is digital.
The rumour mill is really grinding away on this site. If it even pans out to be true, there's gonna be some real disappointed people when the games aren't all the big ones people want. I find it very appealing that they did so much with so little (compared to surround sound, better tech and fully orchestrated modern soundtracks)
People really need to be more distinct when talking about this. Digital media is not really that different from buying a physical copy. I buy a something digitally, I download it and I have it for as long as I have whatever medium I have stored it on, be it an external drive, card or whatever. Yes, the medium can fail, but so can physical copies. I don't know why people seem to think it stops working when they shut down an online shop. Distribution may stop (just as it does for physical), but you still have your game. The only real big difference between the two is the after-market. Obviously you can't buy or sell digital copies after the fact. Streaming is a different beast entirely and this is the distinction that should be made here. You have absolutely nothing and are at the mercy of however long a company wants to have something available.
