Do you like Bayonetta 3, but feel vaguely embarrassed by all the gratuitous nudity? Or maybe you're just trying to play with your parents/partner in the room, and you don't want to keep having to explain that Bayo's outfit is made of her own hair which is also magic so actually she needs to have her bum out sometimes?
Either way, PlatinumGames has got your back, friend. With Bayo 3, the kind studio has added a new "Naive Angel Mode", which can be toggled on to give characters a little more modesty. Side-boob will be minimised, legs will be clothed, and Bayonetta's ample assets will be censored at last.
Here are some examples of how the outfits are altered with the Naive Angel mode on:
Never change, PlatinumGames.
We've updated the original Japanese tweet with the English version above.

Won't be using this feature myself. But its nice to include it. Means more people can play it.
Also can't believe people are actually upset over this extra feature. Sad.
Seems like a smart way to handle fanservice. Some like it, some don't. That way both will be happy
That's a great call, let people enjoy the game the way they'd prefer, rather than forcing either side to put up with censorship or lack thereof.
She always needs her bum out. ‘Naive mode’ - the funniest thing I’ve seen today.
What an excellent name for this mode 🤣! I appreciate them giving the option and not forcing censorship. Everyone wins now!
Is a pretty good addition, at least if people would rather not have the fanservice but are interested in the game otherwise they have an opt-out.
I don't really care about the sex appeal so I may play with it on.
Wouldnt feel the same with that mode on
Someone thought of the children... in a PEGI 16 game?
Or is it how they managed to rate it as low as PEGI 16 in the first place?😅
Will there be another mode like this that allows for ACTUAL nudity?? I'm asking for a friend.
people are getting embarassingly mad over this even being an OPTION [i.e.: cries of censorship, the west ruining everything, civilization burning down because you can turn off boobs and such] on twitter, saw a dude dump on the new girl for being a "feminist design" in the nintendoeverything article's retweets too which is just hilarious
I will definitely be using this feature - don't like the nudity
For people who want to play the game for the plot.
"Otherwise known as The PlayStation Patch!"
read that earlier, too funny.
@rawzeku this page gets outraged at Nintendo is appealing to everyone and not catering to just kids. A couple of years ago, they ran a few features about how Nintendo stopped censoring and NL was troubled by it
I'm guessing there's no killing in «naive mode»?
This mode will definitely be helpful when I'm playing video games on my workplace lunch breaks 😅
This is great.
I'm a fan of nudity, but do get frustrated that other gamers often have to avoid naughtier games in general, without options.
Here, everyone wins.
Seems a good idea. Loads of games give the option to remove blood effects and stuff, makes sense they’d do it for ‘nudity’ (wearing a thong is not nudity).
@kurtasbestos probably not, but FWIW both Saints Row games on Switch allow the option. Passing info from a friend.✌
Well that’s going to be helpful on bus rides.
Actually, credit where credit is due, it is nice that this is an option rather than something that is forced. Normally, games get censored for stuff like this. At least this game lets people actually pick what they want.
Finally I can be less embarrassed playing this on the subway
Is there a double butt option for those who want to go that way?
I know people are gonna scream censorship or what about their fap/silich needs, but this is pretty cool; lets more people enjoy the game that may skip for whatever reason and takes nothing from those that want to play without this mode.
Now "It's just an option, it won't affect you."
Next: "We don't want an option, not having nudity should be the only option."
@MS7000 The problem is that when this kind of censorship was invented, the intention was making an option for people, but the original is still there for those who wanted.
Eventually, people made sure to make the censored version the only one you can have, this is why we need to be careful, make one step, and do not make another step.
Holy ****: someone actually thought of the children.
(I know it's M rated but to be fair: that hasn't stopped the young 'uns from playing stuff like Call of Duty)
Every game with violence and sexualisation should do this from now on. I’d love the option of maxing out male nudity and gore and minimising unrealistic breasts 😏 That way we’d never get stuck inside someone else’s fantasies.
Great call on the developer's part! Being optional is the best of both worlds 👏
As somebody who often swaps out outfits in games to be less fanservicey this is an option I'd def use from time to time, having the ability to without being forced either way is fantastic.
It's also great for content creators because now they can activate the censor mode and not get in trouble with Twitch/YT etc.
@Royalblues It's in the west as well. https://twitter.com/platinumgames/status/1547216944470069248
Not gonna be using that mode but i like that they made it an option
Some consoles have RTX options, Switch has a naivety option.
And ofcourse it's a good option when playing around children.
Show me all the bums🍑
I don't really like it when companies pamper to the public, as this is all it is when you consider the game is 16 rated anyway. If they want us to believe we are playing their creations then they shouldn't be pandering to marketing decisions. If such a thing actually make it possible for younger people to be able to play the game then that would be great.
This just reminds me of when I was playing Bayo 2 around Christmas and my nieces and nephews etc. had no problem with the gore and stuff from the first few levels.
So I don't think I'll use it, but it's good for those that want it. It's Bayonetta, the game the series that Nintendo themselves said needed a more revealing design for Bayo's Link outfit. It was never going to be fully censored, but that demon form design is pretty cool even in Naive Angel Mode.
What's funny is people saying 'they don't care' about Bayo's nudity but still state they'll make the active choice to turn if off. There's a slight difference between not caring about something and actively trying to avoid something.
This should be the standard, removing it with no option was always stupid
Maybe this is a very good thing for gamers. This will likely get a lot more people to buy the game. I know many gamers who felt ashamed by playing bayonetta 1 and 2, And even more who refuse to even purchase or play them at all because of the nudity; from what I've heard personally and read online. They feel uncomfortable very uncomfortable because they are not used to seeing women in person let alone nude in person and it's just a very traumatizing experience playing this game. Even the female gamers who were upset about the nudity at the nudity you don't often see themselves naked, From my personal testimonials they go as far to even shower with their is underwear on.
This WILL INCREASES SALES 💰 🤑 💸 💲 🪙 💶 💰
We like butts and boobs around here. Ain't using that mode.
@victordamazio That's not usually how it works for these kinds of games. The non-optional censorship tends to happen during localization/development, and usually for games where the target audience in another country skews younger (E to Teen); the rare exception being if something takes an M-rated game to AO.
Bayonetta's already an M-rated series where being "sacri-licious" is a major point of it. There's little reason to believe having this option is gonna lead to some reality where Platinum/Nintendo is gonna go all in to protecting puritanical sensibilities in a series where a sexy witch fights angels, demons, and everything in between.
We were born in Birthday Suits so it never bothered me 😄
Oh noes! Not skin!
Glad they kept those family friendly guns in though.
(For record, I don’t care either way, it’s a load of polygons, nothing to get excited about… but the hypocrisy gets to me..)
Obviously cant win with everyone with anything. But having options is a lot closer to the theoretical win. Good on them.
Maybe this mode replaces the guns with water pistols and walkie talkies?
This is kinda cute.
No, not the side boob!
This is really cool actually. I played the demo for Bayo2 back in the Wii U days and just couldn't see myself playing through the whole thing as the nudity just didn't sit well with me (videogames and sex aren't something I'm looking to crossover personally; more power to you if you get off on this kind of thing). This would actually make me much more inclined to play it with this option.
I don’t plan on getting this, but if I did this would be a great option so I don’t have to worry about my mom or brother walking in on my playing this and having a lot of questions
@BobLong-RickTangle : “ more power to you if you get off on this kind of thing”
Guns?
Was there this much backlash when Bayonetta was shown not getting nude when doing Smash attacks back when she was confirmed for Smash 4?
I'm a gay dude so it's not like I'm personally attracted to Bayonetta, but I still won't be using this as I feel her sexiness is an important part of her charm and I'd never play this sort of game around children anyway.
That said, it seems like a very nice addition for people who might be uncomfortable by the nudity for whatever reason and I find it so funny/sad that some people are complaining about a completely optional feature. Ah, gamers...
@victordamazio Agreed. But I think this is encouraging because I feel like this is the first game in quite a while where it has been an option rather than forced.
What about the violence though? Think of the children.
@Clammy if you get off over guns then I'd recommend getting some help tbh. Considering everything that's been happening in the US and Scandinavia recently I'm not sure that the joke is entirely appropriate either
Doesn't bother me , but I'll just play it normally. Excited finally have a date !!!! I didn't think it would come this year honestly
Regardless of mode, I won't be playing this. But don't let my decision stop you from playing it.
This mode actually makes me worry about possible censure. If we look at some cutscenes in the previous games... I dont see how they could apply this kind of censure to them...
It's possible they had toned down the game so that people can play with this mode on while all the cutscenes still makes sense. People often talk about stuff being optional, but never wonder how this optional stuff could afftect the whole game.
For the time being, I will trust Platinum games. They are an excelent studio. But if Bayonetta isn't getting naked in a over-the-top sequence...I'll be disappointed.
Take note, Sony.
Also:
Options are usually good, but this right above is a case where we don't want options, one option would be better for everyone.
Another example is Netflix having commercials in a cheaper subscription, this will harm everyone that subscribes to Netflix, even those who are not going to watch commercials, when paid TV started, it had no commercials, later, cable TV started having more commercials than free TV.
@BobLong-RickTangle : sorry, where was I making a joke?
Why are guns and violence “family friendly”, but something I can see by looking in a mirror, not?
It’s pure hypocrisy, and yeah.. I’m saying that especially with the stupid happening in the USA right now.
If this is of concern to righteous people don't buy or talk about it the more rants you make of it the more people will buy it.
What if you like butts and aren’t a huge fan of blood and gore? Seems like that mode should exist too.
Good option that should be seen as a win for both sides.
Also one of the best names I seen for a mode ever.😂
@somebread WOKE FEMINIST TRASH = a woman with short hair 😅
It’s nice to have the option. I of course will have it off.
Always good to have options!! Let the consumer choose. Nothing wrong with that.
Good for the 5 people still upset about the human form somehow I guess.
We should get fully nekkid angel mode too for us adults not ashamed of our silly hooman bodies though.
I don't see how anyone could be upset over this option being included. I think a lot of people are misinterpreting the point of this mode.
Considering the switch is a portable system, some people may want to play the game in public but don't want someone to see Bayonetta showing off her butt lol. I bet this option was designed with Japanese people in mind considering how much public transportation they use.
... but where's the Naughty Devil mode with tentacles and extra nudity?
@Dinglehopper The problem is:
This is another thing that Sony should copy from Nintendo.
But yeah, I like this. Very much like blood/gore toggles in many others games.
@Clammy Okay. Why I incorrectly interpreted your comment as a joke was because you purposefully took my comment out of context and made it about guns when it was clearly prefaced with a comment about combining sex and videogames. I now see that you were merely incensed by the idea that I was cool with gun violence in videogames, but not nudity in videogames - which would be fair if I had actually said that.
For the record, I'm really not particularly enamored with gratuitous violence in videogames either. I will say this, however: There is a marked difference between violence against other human beings or animals within games and violence against fantastical undead demons that are intended to represent pure evil.
Therefore I'd like to refute your claim of "pure hypocrisy" on the grounds that this really isn't like-for-like.
For just a moment, I forgot my British slang and thought they were taking homeless people out of the game, which would really play on the "Naive" thing. "Nope. No poverty here. Everyone's doing fine!"
So, off then. Got it.
explain that Bayo's outfit is made of her own hair which is also magic so actually she needs to have her [redacted]
@KateGray Please tell me that you're writing the review for this. Actually, maybe you should write all the articles about this franchise on this site. This game is made for you.
@BobLong-RickTangle : the bum is only being used on the monsters too.
@victordamazio Yea...but I'm not arguing that it's good that it's censored, I'm saying that it's good there's a censored MODE.
I hate censorship but I still see this mode as a win considering the entire game could have been censored instead. The option for a "non-sexy" mode is such a non-problem. People being upset over this is like people being upset over games including an easy mode. Just don't use it lol
For just a moment, I forgot my British slang
@Pak-Man I understand your predicament, believe me. As soon as I see a byline by Kate or Alex Olney, I open up some tabs for cultural resources to help me understand what the hell they're talking about (i.e. Urban Dictionary and Oxford Slang, at the very least).
This can only be a good thing so even prudish folks who want to experience the action can do it with no worries. Although, Bayo doesn't really go all that far with the nudity anyway...
@CANOEberry I doubt it, but I might pick it up anyway. AND I'M GOING TO KEEP THE BUMS ON THANK YOU
Ok, I have to clap them for this, I don’t mind but some people do, this keeps both party’s happy, Kudos! (Buns on gang!)
@Sinton the west has decided time and time again that violence is acceptable (and encouraged) for all ages, but vulgarity and sexuality are too much. it's weird, jerry. humans are real weird.
Being uncomfortable with not-quite-nudity, but being okay with gratuitous violence and gore is extremely backwards.
@Fizza
Though just as much as they play CoD anyway, they will also play Bayonetta without this option anyway.
@rawzeku
I mean ... you all know this feature is satire that is only included to make fun of people, right?
Seems like everyone missed the point. The people this is meant to offend don't have a problem, the people who should be laughing think they should be offended.
They joked about a feature in 2 which would allow you to play with her FULLY NUDE at all times (she is always nude, her cloths are magic).
It's a joke.
We all know it's a joke, right?
@Ashunera84
Never understood why some people fear some skin so much. Heck, I only need to go out my house to see women showing of more skin then some can seemingly handle. And I am not exactly living at a beach.
Anyway, for them it's still a nice option. No reason not to have it, I guess.
Suns out, buns out
I honestly don't even see the need for the fan service these days in games. The angel mode has much better character designs and it's not like this is the 50's and anyone can't just go online to look up nudes.
I always find in curious people are okay with seeing the inside of people, blood, guts, gore while at the same time and in the same game/movie, are appaled at seeing the outside of people, even if its just bumcheeks.
At least it's optional and has a fitting name.
Oh cool. We should think about the kids lol. We can’t pretend that media does not have an affect on them.
That’s great they offer that feature. I
played the second game not knowing what to expect and I did not like it because it was straight up over sexualizing Bayonetta. Not just in how she dresses but how she acts. I know 99% of people may not care about that.
Same reason I’m not pumped for Xenoblade 3. The second one was wayyyy to sexual. It’s actually kinda disgusting forreal. I haven’t tried persona but to my knowledge that game sexualizes teens….. so I’m not very keen on three big Nintendo releases this year.
But hey to each their own. I’m going to go play something a little less idk sexual. Lol.
THIS is what games need instead of censorship without options. I don't mind people having this choice so long as it isn't forced on everybody. In fact, I quite like it!
That's actually quite funny. In a way it's quite clever also.
I won't be using it as we all live in a bum bum world for heaven's sake, lol
There's a joke about drifting joycon to be had here.
And, I know others have said it, but "PS5 port confirmed!!1"
Ah. Or how its been known for years....
American mode.
I'm glad we seem to have arrived at this sort of place, where everyone can choose the option they want, rather than all that nonsense a few years ago with terrible "localisations". Personally, I like to turn off excessive blood and gore when I can. Given the level of technology available today, it doesn't seem unreasonable to expect a certain level of customisation to the playing experience.
Ah yes, PlayStation mode.
Ridiculous...
Now little Bowser Junior can play. Hurray!
@rawzeku i agree, it's a good idea
@Rambler Well they are, just more in the metaphorical sense. Lol
This is a wonderful accessibility option!
No gamers left behind!
@KateGray Hey Kate can we get a poll article for Bayonetta 3 asking bums on or off?
Please and thank you.
I'M GOING TO KEEP THE BUMS ON THANK YOU
@KateGray Well, sure... as we established in this thread, you are a woke feminist, right?
(Dear Eel: this is a joke. I love Kate's work.)
@Synecdoche people have mentioned it in this comment section, but blood/gore sliders are very common, so that does tend to exist, even if not on bayonetta
It's good that Platinumgames decided to add this feature.👍
@CANOEberry We need a ruler to measure @KateGray 's hair length before making that assessment
Wouldn't be interested without the A&T lol
it is just me playing it so no change for me.
I played Bayo 1 and 2 many times never saw any nudity, do people pay any attention at all
Does it have a mode that makes it actually perform well tho? Right now it looks like a PS4 game modded to run on a DS.
@KateGray I'm surprised joking about a game being woke feminist trash is acceptable. Good to know going forward.
@Chocobo_Shepherd the joke is that people seem to think a short-haired woman is a bad thing. I am a short-haired woman.
@invictus4000
Not much they could do if Sega, Sony, or Microsoft are not gonna fund this game's development. Plus, most developers seem to go for more than the Switch can handle, rather what it could superbly handle.
So you know what would be awesome? If this mode was attached with the parental control. If the console has parental control on for under a certain age, this mode would be locked. For a age higher, it could be toggled on/off
Censored Mode is happening, this should be in more game instead of completely censored the whole game like Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE.
See, this is how you do it. You don't censor for everyone, you give people the option to turn it on or off themselves. Honestly I think this may be Kamiya trolling the prudish West again. But this is how it should be. Same with like old animated movies with racial stereotypes, have a checkbox "I understand and I want to see the original".
I hope it's defaulted to off, this feature will be off on my bayonetta 3 all the time 😁
I love the people equating liking nudity in video games with “adult” or “maturity”. “Some of us are just mature enough to be comfortable with the human form” lol. I have no issue with it (especially in the case of Bayonetta where I feel it is actually done somewhat artfully) but let’s not pretend it’s some mark of maturity, and neither is it a human form. Gamers are hilarious though
As i only really play during my lunch break at work this is good for me as playing the previous ones I was a little worried if anyone looked over my shoulder.
But I will probably only play this at home on the big screen to be honest, but its good its an option.
I feel like doing some squats now.
Not to sound like a square but I probably would use this mode if I were to play the game. One of my favourite genres is shmups and its plagued with questionable nudity that really puts me off. Dont get me wrong, I love a bit of porn but not in my games.
Well this has confirmed that I am not getting this game, when I watched the last trailer I got that she's a sassy girl which I thought was great. But now I see that she needs to be overly sexualised in order to look more sassy, which was not needed in my opinion.
But hell at least they will give a few minutes of pleasure for some.
Removed - flaming/arguing
No nude, but a lot of blood.
Now...good for children LOL
@Chocobo_Shepherd your replies to what is obviously an ironic joke gave the impression of being in bad faith, as some sort of attempt at a "gotcha!" moment. So that's why they have been marked as trolling.
If you wish to discuss the matter further, please use the contact form.
@Eel Hmm. Honest question, are you genuinely offering a way to continue this discussion elsewhere, or is that a "polite" way of telling me whoever's in charge deems this conversation over? I've never gone that route before and don't want to waste anyone's time (especially mine ^_^ ).
@Chocobo_Shepherd It's an actual rule on the site, we're not supposed to derail threads discussing moderation.
The contact form puts you in direct contact with an admin-level user, so it wouldn't be me continuing the matter, it would be someone with more authority.
Now we just need a Devil's Surprise Mode.
@NotSoCryptic "Introducing the Wicked Witch mode, which reduces the hair strands by 20%"
PlayStation, please pay attention.
Should've been the standard instead of censoring the entire thing
I get the inclusion of this option, for the people who think, "I want to play a proudly lewd game, but not be embarrassed playing it."
If you're embarrassed playing something, though, maybe consider that the game might not be for you. Otherwise, accept the game despite its flaws (if you see them as that).
@Username_unknown why would the sexualization bother you but the murder and gore not?
This is backwards. It is the biggest utterly asinine trait society has.
@Ashunera84
Murder and gore bother me. I stopped playing games like COD & MK years ago. That’s my own belief. To each their own.
I was just referencing the sexualization because of the nature of the article.
Have a good day!
