Re: Feature: Zelda II: The Adventure Of Link Taught Me The Value Of Perseverance

Cotillion

Zelda II is a great game, I've played it thru many times. There are some things in it that are maligned for good reason, but the rest of the game is fantastic. I've never found it to be grindy, at least nowhere near as grindy as even some modern RPGs can be. It would take just a few tweaks and fixes to fix it up to more modern standards and I'd bet more accepted. I feel like some people just give up on it because of its reputation.

I see quite often people complaining about the zoomed out map. While it could stand to not be so static, it's zoomed out due to the scale being so much different. The entirety of the original games map is in the Zelda II map (albeit simplified), but it is there as just a tiny little portion of it. With the grander scale, the map had to be zoomed out.

Re: Monster Hunter Rise Officially No Longer A Switch Exclusive, Coming To PC In 2022

Cotillion

Why would anyone be 'concerned' about this? Console exclusive + PC seems to be the going norm, even Sony is doing it now.
If they include cross-play/-progression then they're looking at a potential 2 sales per person in some cases. And a year long wait is a long one, anyone itching to play this isn't going to wait that long.
As a PC and Switch user, this really doesn't change anything. Games come to both platforms all the time and I like having the option. Some games I want portable and some I want the higher end eye-candy (or if they implement it, both).

Re: Soapbox: The Modern Games Industry Has A Hype Problem, And It Needs To Stop

Cotillion

There is a definite hype problem in the industry. Announcing years before they are even able to show anything is ridiculous. Sometimes it feels like they made the decision to make a game, then announce it that day, before work even started. It's too much time for people to build up some unrealistic expectation that will never get met. At the very least, I personally feel that they should keep tight-lipped about it until they are able to show something realistic. We wouldn't have this vapourware problem nearly as much if they would stop announcing things way too damn early. They must feel regret for doing it, the constant harassment from people asking must be awful.

Sites like this definitely feed into that, though. Constantly posting any rumour or 'leak' despite them not being verified that only leads to fuel this hype. The direct is an example of that. "Leaks" get posted, people start to expect them all to be true for whatever reason and built this Direct up to be something it didn't end up being and some people were actually outraged it didn't meet what they personally felt it should have been.

Re: Video: Here's How Mario Kart Could Look Running On A 4K Console

Cotillion

There always seems to be some people who are against 4k in some way.
"I don't see a difference" - well, I'd wager you're either not watching it on a 4K screen or a screen too small for 4K to matter. It's a significant difference, if you're set up for it.

"I don't even have a 4K screen" - okay? Many people do and this clearly isn't for you.

Believe it or not, the same thing existed when DVD and Blu-ray came out. People got DVD players and used them on their crappy, off-brand, small screen CRT TVs and then complained how it didn't look any better. Same thing happened with Blu-ray and now again with 4K.

Re: UK Charts: Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury Launch Sales Are 190% More Than The Wii U Version

Cotillion

"Great game released on popular system sells very well!" Not surprising in any way. 3D World is fantastic game, far better than Odyssey, IMO.
I see we still get a few people griping over another Wii U re-release. Even after all this time, I don't get how some don't understand that those of us that owned a Wii U and these games are now a tiny minority of the Switch owners. This game, and the other Wii U ports, are brand new to the majority.
The alternative would be to let great games rot away in the library of a massive failure of a system. That would be an incredible disservice to these games and the people that made them. They deserve a larger audience and now they're getting it.

Re: Soapbox: Super Mario 3D World Is The Closest To A Super Mario Bros. 2 Sequel We'll Ever Get

Cotillion

Calling it even a spiritual successor to SMB2 is a real stretch to me. Anyone reading this who hasn't played one or the other shouldn't expect them to really be anything alike besides the few minor things like have 4 characters to pick from. Even the character differences were present in other games, like Luigis higher jump which predates SMB2.
Don't get me wrong, they're both great games, but really nothing alike.

I'd love a successor to SMB2, though. Give Bowser a break and bring back Wart for a romp.

Re: Feature: Every 2D Super Mario Game Ranked

Cotillion

I don't know whether it's just me and my preference for the 'old school' or not, but I thoroughly enjoy the classic Mario control over modern. I'm playing NSMBU currently and I find Mario way too 'floaty' and imprecise. Not that the control is bad, per se, but I feel it lacks over the weight and precise controls of the older ones.
I'm not sure when the gravity in the Mushroom Kingdom weakened, maybe NSMB Wii? Been a while since I played that one, so I don't recall if it's floaty or not.

Re: Feature: Every 2D Super Mario Game Ranked

Cotillion

Mario 3 and World are definitely my top 2 as well.

The only flaws with them, for me, were the save systems (3 having none and World making you do a Ghost House or Castle to save), but these issues were fixed in remakes/re-releases.

Re: No, Nintendo Is Not Solely To Blame For The Cancellation Of Goldeneye's XBLA Remake

Cotillion

@sixrings Case in point. They literally have nothing to do with the game. What effort could they put into the release of a game they don't have the license for, the IP they don't own, the game they don't own, the developer they don't own?
What exactly could they have done here?

I don't get this at all. Seems like pure conjecture for the sake of blaming Nintendo for something they have nothing to do with.

Re: No, Nintendo Is Not Solely To Blame For The Cancellation Of Goldeneye's XBLA Remake

Cotillion

A lot of people seem to want to blame Nintendo for everything.
I'd be surprised if Nintendo actually was involved in any way. Their license expired decades ago, they don't own any of the game nor the company that does. They would have no more say in this than they did about Banjo, Killer Instinct, etc...

The game was great because of the gameplay, that just happened to be based around Bond. Releasing the game without Bond would still be cool, but might be quite an undertaking though as the story would need to change and who knows how much other stuff to distance itself from the movie (weapons, locations, maps, etc)

Re: Feature: 6 Huge Video Game Franchises Missing From Nintendo Switch

Cotillion

The Sims concept would be a good fit for the Switch, except that the Sims itself is typical EA hot garbage plagued with money-grabbing expansions of content that should be in the barebones base game. Last count was around $500 for the entire game.

Most of the MGS games could run on Switch. Legacy Tomb Raider as well; the new trilogy probably not so much, at least not without huge sacrifices and being a slower paced game than something like Doom, those sacrifices would be far more apparent.

Re: Video: 13 Great Wii U Games Still Not on Switch

Cotillion

I appreciate you guys want video content, but can you not post the basic list for things like this as well?
Not everyone wants to watch a 15mins video for a list that can be read in a few secs.
For those people:
-Xenoblade Chronicles X
-Star Fox Zero + Guard
-Pullblox World
-Project Zero: Maiden of Blackwater
-Game & Wario
-Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush
-Wii Sports Club
-NES Remix 1&2
-Paper Mario: Color Splash
-Nintendo Land
-Yoshis Woolly World
-Zelda Windwaker HD
-Zelda Twilight Princess HD

Re: Netflix Is Winding Down Its Services On Wii U And 3DS

Cotillion

The only thing surprising here is that it was supported this long. Especially considering how many other devices can stream. I don't know why some people think every piece of tech they buy should be supported forever.
A Firestick or Chromecast can be had for like $30 and offers far more options for streaming. Any phone or tablet made in the last few years can as well on Wifi, so no need for a data plan.
I find it hard to believe that, for 'many', the only device someone has to stream Netflix is an 8 year old failed game console. Anyone that actually does is in a very extreme minority.

@NathanTheAsian Hulu isn't available at all outside the USA and Japan, regardless of Switch or not (at least not without some shady payment and VPN usage). It has more to do with broadcast rights than anything for being USA only.
Disney now owns the majority of Hulu and are going to start bringing some of that content to the international market, just not under the Hulu name. The rest of us are going to start getting that content via "Disney+ Star" in the next couple months, so it'll be built into our Disney+ subs.

Re: Random: YouTuber Shows Google Stadia Version Of Cyberpunk 2077 Running On Switch

Cotillion

Unlike some closed minded people here, I'm keen to give streaming a try.
Once we get the holidays behind us, I think I'll give one of them a go. I haven't decided which I want to try out yet, though.

This article is worded all wrong, though. Stadia is running the game, not the Switch. Switch is just running Stadia, which runs on a plethora of devices. But even that is a stretch given Switch isn't even running it's own OS here. It's basically just an Android tablet in this case.

Re: Shigeru Miyamoto Gives Super Mario Fans A Sneak Peek Of Super Nintendo World

Cotillion

Must be quite something to have things you created to amount to something like this and be able to walk through worlds you created.

It looks pretty awesome, but I do hope that it is actually 'Nintendo World' and not just 'Mario World'. Like different areas that are also Zelda, Metroid, Kirby themed and such too (or plans for them).

Not that I'm going to get to go there....

Re: Bowser Tries To Explain Why Mario's Games Will Be Removed On 31st March 2021

Cotillion

@Mgalens It's an anniversary product. When the anniversary is over, the product is gone.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Nintendo hasn't said they will never release these games ever again, just this 35th anniversary package. Besides there being more anniversaries, these could also be sold separately or in a different package with different branding. Nintendo isn't going to say anything about future releases while this one is still available. It's an overreaction.

Re: Don't Get Your Hopes Up For Xbox Game Pass Appearing On Switch

Cotillion

I would love to have Gamepass to come to Switch. Especially being able to stream games it otherwise couldn't run.
Nintendos history and current handling of online shows they either don't care or don't know how to implement online services properly, so someone with a history of doing it well would be preferred here, if it were coming to Switch.

I'm not sure why anyone would be against Gamepass coming at all. It'd simply be an option for those who want it. I never got the "I don't personally like it, so no one else should ever have it" attitude a lot of people seem to have about something like this.
Can't take this answer as definitive anyway. No way would something like this be revealed off the cuff in answer to an interview question. This would be the answer even if it were imminent. They never say anything until they are ready to, much like when they get asked about other things. Remember how they also weren't planning on releasing another Switch model, then announced the Lite like a week later....
