Wow, I've never played TTYD. The GameCube was my most neglected Nintendo Console. I was in college and away from gaming. Super Mario RPG has always been one of my favorite games period. If TTYD really is better, I need to play it.
@russell-marlow I don't think it is arbitrary, the point of the review is to convey the experience and the feeling of playing the game.
Often when I read that a game is too long, it usually means that it drags. It is more about pacing, It ends up feeling like a chore. Minutes last the same always, but minutes in front of the microwave tend to last longer than minutes having fun, if you know what I mean
agreed in that Terminator and Robocop were both franchises that hadn't had a decent outing in many decades so they could only benefit from being associated with MK, but Wick is on top of the world and Neo is coming back soon and it is still undecided whether it'll be any good (I'm not hopeful, but maybe).
This is better understood, I think, if you understand that videogames on the scale that Nintendo produce and manufacture them are more entertainment than art.
What I mean is that they need to put out products that appeal to very large numbers of people in a very diverse market, a HUGE global market. The creation, production and distribution of triple A games, consoles and accesories is a very expensive business that operates on a deficit basis, you invest heavily on a project and you "cross your fingers" you get back more than what you originally invested.
Seen in that light, I believe it is a positive that Nintendo answers to investors, because they push for success. A good game is a popular game is a money-making game. Specially if you also take into consideration that Nintendo is a company that also takes risks on more artistic or innovative endeavors.
I'm sorry, the ideal platform is VR, I've played it both on the Oculus Quest 2 and the PS VR and I will probably get it on the switch eventually, but the VR experience is mind blowing.
Really liked this trailer. I played this from launch back in the day and loved it.
I understand the hate it gets in retrospect, because the hand holding has gone very out fashion in modern games. But at the time it didn't bother me and I got caught up in the extraordinary story.
In terms of the motion controls, I get why they're divisive but I liked them. Some of them were very lame, like the flying mechanic of wagging the control, which felt unnecessary.
But swordplay and motion aiming were very interesting and immersive.
I still remember buying this game with my mom. I had to choose between this and Mega Man X. I only had a couple of magazine articles to base my opinion on, I definitely made the right choice. Don't get me wrong, I love X, but this game really impacted me growing up, the atmosphere, the overall feeling of loneliness.
I always pictured Samus similar to Ellen Ripley in Aliens. That was my personality reference at the time. That's why it was a bit jarring to play Other M.
I ultimately enjoy Fitness Boxing more than Ring Fit adventure. The whole story, while fun and appreciated, becomes an obstacle in the routine, while the boxing game is to the point.
I am playing Fitness Boxing 2 in two player mode, adding weights and elastic bands in fun ways. It is a great home workout in a time when I'm still a bit paranoid about returning to the gym.
What neat little list of games the Wii U had... I'm quite fond of that ol' failure of a console.
I would put Affordable Space Adventures a bit higher since, to me, it had the absolute best gamepad integration of any game on the console... to the point that I cannot imagine that game being played in any other way on any other platform.
@Desrever I prefer Fitness Boxing to Ring Fit Adventures. However:
I think in terms of quality Ring Fit is a more premium game, better made, more love and certainly more money put into it.
But for me, I just like boxing. So Fitness Boxing became a great companion and I just fire it up and there it is.
With Ring Fit I appreciate the story elements and the humour but at a certain point it became a bit annoying for me. Making smoothies and stuff like that was dull. I rather jump in the action.
I got two sets and left them in their boxes and in storages, I'm hoping my children will be able to send my grandchildren to college with the money they'll make selling them when I die.
Hyrule Warriors was such a pleasant surprise for me, I had never played a Warriors game and even though the Gameplay is rather simple and repetitive, it ended up having a calming effect on me.
It is a great way to drain stress and anxiety. I will enjoy this game, I'm sure.
I thought I would have trouble with the apparent rushed nature of these ports or emulations, but they've hit right in the nostalgia. Right now I wouldn't have the collection any other way. Even the 4:3 Mario 64 has been so perfect for me and my memories of the game.
the first one has been crucial for me during the quarantine but now I got a PS VR and playing Box VR and it is MILES better... of course, it is also much more expensive, but if you have the cash, I recommend.
I think this is more of an experiment from Nintendo. All of us here are pretty hardcore fans and will buy the game pretty much regardless, but the Switch has reached a huge range of people that might not have nostalgia for these games. Specially Sunshine, which was released in what turned out to be a very niche console.
And on the other hand, Nintendo is very specific about the direction they take with their franchises, going back just for nostalgia and fast money making could go against corporate values.
At first I didn't like World, because I had 500 hours poured into MH3U, but then with Iceborne a couple of buddies got it and I am loving it.
I think it has a ton of QoL improvement but retains the core spirit that made the franchise so special in the first place.
I hope that whatever they do they keep on that track, tweeking and perfecting. I hope it's something new, but if it comes out in PS4 I doubt I'll get the switch version. Portability has taking a backseat for me in covid-19 times, I would go with a more powerful version.
I've only played the original N64 Paper Mario, and coming from Super Mario R.P.G. I wasn't particularly fond of the game. so my view isn't the most objective on this saga.
Having said that, I think it is a fairly "failed" saga one that has the newest entries at the bottom and the oldest at the top.
I've never been into Paper Mario. I am such a big fan of Super Mario RPG on the SNES that I always held a bit of a grudge against the series.
A childish thing from back when I was a child, I just can't help it.
My only hope is that the series has gone so far from the RPG mechanics, that maybe Nintendo and Square might consider bringing my old favorite back. Maybe?
I hope I am not hated, for this, but i cannot fathom why someone would choose Mario Sunshine. I really don't like that game, it even bothers me that Fludd is part of Mario's moveset in Smash.
However I just remembered playing it back when it came out, being disappointed and never gave it a second chance.
I had a similar experience with a couple of failed attempts at playing the game. However, once I killed the very first beast, the Griffin, I knew right then and there that I was hooked for life.
I literally bought the DLC right away because I knew this game was special.
I don't know about game of the decade, since I am terrible at ranking things, but It is certainly a game that comes out of mouth every time someone asks me about some of the best videogames I've played.
Switch + PS4 Pro is my winning combo as well. Right now I'm going through Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order on my PS4 and Ring Fit Adventures and Axiom Verge on my Switch.

Re: Metroid Prime 4: Beyond Confirmed For Switch, Launching 2025
"Switch extra power" in 2024 doesn't sound right.
Still, the game looks decent.

Re: Poll: How Do You Feel About Wave 2 Of The Mario Kart 8 Booster Course Pack?
I hope the time they are taking with the other tracks means that they'll keep getting more and more polished down the line.
But the strategy worked on me, I've been coming back for more MK 8 fun.

@MichaelP it gives you a time and an item percentage, I did it in 8:47 with like 43% items.
Re: Talking Point: How Many Hours Is A 'Short' Game For You?
Just finished my first run of Metroid Dread just under 9 hours.
I think it is a sweet spot because I feel like I could play it 3 or 4 more times.

Super Mario Bros. 2 or Super Mario USA as they call in it Japan and also Zelda II. I got a NES bundle with both sequels back in the day.

Re: Soapbox: 10 Years On, We Need More Brave, Worthwhile Experiments Like Epic Mickey
I loved playing Epic Mickey and agree 100% with all of the above.
My first big Mickey video game was Disney's Magical Quest Starring Mickey Mouse. One of my favorite video games of youth.
Mickey is a great and fun character, specially when they let him take a bit of a darker turn.

Re: Rumour: New Monster Hunter Game For Switch Supposedly 'Leaked' Ahead Of Nintendo Direct

I remember being so upset with Nintendo by the end of the Wii U's life. I didn't want a Switch, but I got a Switch as a gift and it's been a 180.
I don't mind the ports, since I've both consoles connected to the TV alongside my PS4. Great time to be a gamer.
