Re: Mario & Luigi Developer AlphaDream Seeking Production Assistant

@MysteryCupofJoe Superstar Saga is a masterpiece! It's the best entry in the series, in my opinion. The sequels I played got increasingly easier and gimmicky.

I'd buy a Switch Mario & Luigi game in a heartbeat; one I hope returns to its roots. We must avert the death of the Mario RPG!

@Rohanrocks88 My first console was the SNES, too. Man, I loved that thing. I kept and played it until it finally died on me. It's still the longest console I ever held onto. It was also the first console I started importing games for. Good times.

I dropped off the Nintendo wagon not much longer after you. I didn't like the direction they took with the Wii, so I kept to PC gaming. I jumped back in for Smash and a few others on the Wii U, but I don't need to go over the Wii U's problems.

I completely agree, though. The Switch era is the first time in a while where it feels good to be a Nintendo fan. Nintendo's killing it, and the gimmicks are (for the most part) kept to a minimum. Their recent focus on the core gamer market is certainly worth acknowledging.

I'm cautiously optimistic . . . with an emphasis on the optimistic part. I have high hopes for the Switch era. Maybe it's not too wild of a suggestion to think we might see the likes of Star Fox, F-Zero, a traditional Paper Mario or maybe even Earthbound!

Anyway, only time will tell in the end. Thanks for the chat. Peace be with you, brother.

@Rohanrocks88 I see nothing wrong with being optimistic about the franchise, but Nintendo poured a good deal of money into marketing Star Fox Zero. You can only do so much for a bad game, though. The advertising campaign significantly outshone the game itself. Zero, as far as I can tell, still stands as the worst entry in the series in terms of sales.

Maybe it's reasonable to suggest Nintendo's gauging Star Fox's appeal with Starlink, but I worry Star Fox will go the way of some of Nintendo's other beloved legacy franchises.

But . . . my concerns are that of an older Nintendo fan approaching his 30s. Nintendo's likely more concerned with trying to appeal to newer audiences with new and engaging IPs than my demographic by reinvigorating old franchises.

Re: Travel Between Worlds When Square Enix's Oninaki Arrives On Switch This Summer

I enjoyed I Am Setsuna but didn't care for Lost Sphere. Setsuna's atmosphere had a unique allure while Lost Sphere just seemed like a bunch of JRPG mechanics rolled into a convoluted and generic turn-based burrito.

This, on the other hand, is grabbing my attention. I like the more action-oriented approach. Definitely keeping this one on my radar!

Re: Feature: What We Expect From The February Nintendo Direct

Anyone mention the Grandia remasters yet?

I'm looking forward to everything, to be blunt. This year is slated to be a big one for Nintendo. Fire Emblem and Daemon X Machina look amazing.

I'd also appreciate some Joker gameplay in Smash . . . with a tease of the next newcomer.

A Steve Mii costume would be more appropriate. I may be a little old for Minecraft's key demographic, but I don't think he's quite earned his spot to stand alongside gaming's giants.

If we're talking characters, there's a certain bear-bird duo that comes to mind. Granted, I'm biased with nostalgia. Green male Samus would be an okay pick, too.

Localization isn't guaranteed. Some healthy skepticism is warranted here. Putting your eggs in one basket might lead to disappointment.

As a fan of the series, I couldn't bring myself to wait any longer. I caved a couple months back, and I couldn't be happier that I did! DQXI is a phenomenal JRPG, and you're doing yourself a disservice holding out for a game that may not even get an international release.

DQXI sits rightfully as one of my favorite JRPGs of all time. It's so ridiculously faithful to the classic JRPG formula you'll forget what year it is until its stunning graphics bring you back to 2019. I can go on, but I think you get the point. This game simply oozes quality.

TL;DR:

Don't wait. Get this game.

Re: Feature: 30 Third-Party Nintendo Switch Ports We'd Love To See In 2019

jtmnm

Boy, that's a lot of port begging. This article shines a spotlight on the one thing the wildly successful Switch is still struggling with, but maybe not for long. Dragon Quest 11, the new Mortal Kombat and others being ported defy what I thought was possible for the system. In my view, the possibility for a port seems exclusively reliant on a corporate body deeming it profitable.

That was an entertaining watch! Curious stuff. I love content like this.

It's interesting to see the title that marked the end for Paper Mario in the eyes of its earliest fans was (likely) initially planned as a different title. Should Nintendo decide to bring Paper Mario to the Switch, I hope it follows the incredible formula of the first two games.

It's about time SE pulled the curtain on this game! Visually, it certainly doesn't disappoint. Well done to them on that front, but I'm concerned: How likely is localization?

Call me crazy, but my confidence in SE's localization decisions isn't exactly abundant. I don't want to be negative, but I think the skepticism is warranted.

I'd love to be wrong. The Switch is my ideal place to play games.
