Still no City Pop music I'd guess. The game looks fun, but I'm with Anti on this. Modern music really detracts from the experience for me. Even if it weren't City Pop, it seems like there already is great music for a samba game, and it's definitely not rap, pop, or whatever modern thing the kids listen to these days.
Seems weird that they're releasing nba 2k24 on the Switch 2, and PS6. Guess they must know something the rest of us don't. Probably a good time to start saving up.
I don't have the patience to play games without rollback netcode these days. Practically every online multiplayer action game should have it unless it's trying to be different and unusual thematically.
I like these old school fps games a lot, blasting baddies is always fun, however, I hate getting lost, backtracking, and hoping to find a way to continue. I've given up on so many of these games over the years because I didn't know where to go, it would be really great if they'd add some kind of navigation arrow like what Forza or Crazy Taxi have.
@johnedwin why is that? If you've never played it before, what is the difference between this and a new game selling for full price? The graphical difference looked much better on Switch compared to PS3 in the side-by-side video, it's hardly any different than when Katamari Damacy (a game with no extra content) came out on Switch and I don't remember anyone complaining about the price for that. It was older than RDR and a much shorter game and the same price it was when it was new, nearly 2 decades ago.
I just don't understand how being 13 years old is a problem. If you've already played it, don't buy it. If you've never played it before, it's well worth the $50 (assuming it's a decent port).
@Dragnoran I haven't went a day without playing since it launched, so, clearly the flaws aren't really as bad as people say. For sure I played a lot of Wii Sports, Resort and Club, but nothing like this, the rollback netcode online and unlockables and pro ratings make it a whole other thing. I guess it could use some more games but when I'm enjoying game after game of Soccer, how Badminton or Bowling or whatever plays is really none of my concern. [edit: what would be really nice is if they just did what they did with Boxing/ARMS and make each of the good ones into individual full priced AAA games, but it's probably not necessary as Switch Sports is already pretty great as is.]
Wii Sports has been absent since the console arrived and it's selling like hotcakes now because it would have sold like hotcakes on release but Nintendo left everyone waiting starved for a release (also doesn't hurt that it's easily the best game in the franchise and the IP gets both me, the hardcore gamer and the non-gamer crowd).
I also think Mario Maker would have been a great day one game included with the console. People without games would make levels, and get used to Mario and the world's greatest creators, and it would be great. Possibly create more game devs in the future like what happened to Celeste.
@NCChris Yeah I think so. People love to hate Nintendo on online forums like this, especially if it's a well established series that sells good. F-Zero (one of the worst selling IPs) here is one of the greatest games ever according to the commenters and Nintendo is stupid for not making more, meanwhile Switch Sports (one of the best selling games on the system) which got a 6 out of 10 rating on here, had people saying they shouldn't have released it at all.
Which is to say that normal people don't come here, and I wouldn't take anyone's opinion seriously at all, we're all a bunch of fanatics really outside the norm. Some people might have some points but I don't think it's anything to extrapolate data from. Here a lot of people will judge a game without ever playing it, or play the bare minimum to say that they played it just so they can enjoy the thrill of complaining, while people like the general populace having never played a game won't have an opinion at all; or at least not enough to go complain about it online in a website devoted to that topic. I'd assume most people have something better to do, like just playing the games.
I've been waiting for decades for something like this. We got Butterflies but this looks a lot better. Hope there's a demo to shut up all the naysayers, because those first 2 games (especially 1) were completely incredible and if it's anything like that it's sure to be an amazing and unforgettable experience full of cool art, cool music, and fun gameplay and physics that make a noob feel like a pro. There's really nothing like it, and if Sega refuses to make one, this looks like the next best thing.
I was all in for buying the first 2 waves when the game wasn't even out yet since I loved 4, but now that I've played it there's just no amount of characters they could add that would make me want to play it. Adding extra characters doesn't fix the problems with the game, so I never even bothered with the new characters even though I paid for them.
Yeah sure, when you've got like 5 games (and enormous backlogs didn't exist yet) you tended to play even though you won, even when games back then didn't have replay value. This was one of the cool things I had heard about and had to try, back before the Game Genie came out and really opened things up. Some of those codes required you to walk through walls just to progress normally, so this minus world trick did become useful there.
@ModdedInkling If any of that was true don't you think Splatoon 2 & 3 players would be complaining about the game getting worse in the sequels compared to the Wii Us which have sensor bars? I'm here pretty often, and the only thing I've noticed anyone complain about is that the Switch doesn't have a second screen to look at the map.
@ModdedInkling Wait a sec, you must not have played these, or not lately. I play Switch Sports every day, it doesn't desync maybe once every few weeks. I used to play Wii Sports, Wii Sports Resort, and Wii Sports Club about every day as well, and I know for a fact that those games needed you to push the direction button to reset it, and it needed to be done several times throughout a match, in addition to the calibration it already does at the beginning of the match. Seems pretty obvious that they got rid of the sensor bar because it's no longer needed. Same thing with ARMS, you start playing that and calibration is never an issure, it just works.
@ModdedInkling That makes a lot of sense however, in practice it's completely different. Wii Sports, Resort, and Club take Tennis for example (or table tennis), your racket would fall out of sync within a couple minutes, so you'd have to hit up (or was it down?) on the wiimote to reset it constantly. Switch Sports it's more like once every few weeks that it might need recalibrated. Which the old Wii Sports games required calibration at the beginning of the match by pointing at a spot on the tv.
Seems obvious, but I think it's funny how the goomba's are all asleep. And it's nice seeing how you can stomp on cheep cheeps underwater. I also noticed that on the cover they show Yoshi holding a shell with his hands, while he usually uses his tongue. Another thing is there doesn't seem to be a time limit, nor a score counter. Art is taken from covers and game manuals. Those purple things can give decimal points. And maybe the most interesting thing, the plants seem to be context sensitive so glitch & trick hunters are going to have a lot of fun finding out everything they can respond to and if it varies per location.
I think it looks similar but just because it should. All Mario games imitate Super Mario Bros. 1 on the NES (except for spinoffs like Mario Clash, which imitated from Mario Bros.), especially the 2d games. If it strays too far from that, it will stop being a Mario game. Where that line is drawn is anyone's guess, so it gets more divisive the further away it gets from the source material.
But another thing is that the series has always moved forward. Like that flower at the beginning of the video said. They don't start from scratch each game, they build off each other. We wouldn't have Yoshi if they didn't continue off from a previous game, nor Mario Maker.
@Serpenterror Well then you're in luck, no button mashing here, your weapons all go off automatically so you just worry about where to go and how you want your character to power up. With certain builds, you don't even need to walk around, you can just stand there while your character kills everyone, sucks up nearby exp and wait to choose powerups. Plus there's tons of characters, and tons of things to unlock, so lots of styles of play but no button mashing aside from choosing power ups in the menus.
I could go for some more Mario Maker, but otherwise I don't really care. I've been waiting since the Switch released to get more Wii Sports and we got that last year, it's probably my favorite game on the platform, so I got nothing else to look forward to. It's still fun to watch, just I'm pretty content at the moment.
I kind of like it, I get tired of the same old stuff, and this looks like a lot of fun with the right people and some beer. Probably be really fun at a bar, or a classroom, or a house party.
I thought they would have mentioned how Game Gear games have the limited screen space cutting off part of the sides of the screen wheras Master System versions would have made a lot more sense.
@DwaynesGames But why sell the game? If you wanted to play Mario Maker levels or GBG games you buy the game. The game comes with extra functionality to be creative if you want but that's not why people buy these games, it's to play stuff. If they limited it only to people interested in creating, barely anyone would buy it, I know I wouldn't.
I'll believe it when I see it. I hate to put too much into the words of a leaker. But if they're seriously going back to Mortal Kombat 1, I really wish they'd film some actors again, rather than fancy graphics. I always missed that when they went full on graphics in 4 and onwards.
@Jalex__64 Definitely, Nintendo portables always dominate. Combining their home and portable consoles and franchises on one device it was really obvious to me what was going to happen. Then youve got kids each having one unlike a home only console, and the controllers snapping off for instant 2 player games anywhere is a fantastic advertisement for the product. You could have 2 people play Mario Kart at the bar, an airport, school, etc, a PS4 doesn't get so much exposure sitting attached to the tv at home.
@_fatto_katto_ It's part of a huge franchise, it's a Fit game, like Wii Fit, Wii Fit Plus, and Wii Fit U. It plays a little different, but it's clearly part of the same franchise. I'd almost call it a spinoff, but since they're unlikely to put out another balance board, I think it can be safe to assume that the series will always have to change to adapt to newer consoles with newer peripherals rather than being the same formula each time.
I usually go Japan but not this time. I think it looks like a 2d SNES game, and is generic. The NA/Europe one doesn't look great necessarily but at least you kind of know what you're getting.
Yeah I guess I'm not a very social gamer, I just play with randos generally so never noticed the issue.
But as for ARMS, I love it, I think it's great and was surprised I only played 15 hours but well worth it in my opinion. However, I got it at launch and the game was a lot more active then, and now it's a lot harder to get into random matchmaking so maybe wait for a sale. The single player is fun if you're into fighting games and like getting a little exercise (there's standard controller mode but I never used it), but it's really missing a lot when you don't have human opponents to psyche out and trick and try to mind read. Though if you never played it like that, maybe you wouldn't miss it. Then again, if you have people to play with offline, the split-screen multiplayer is pretty fun, and there's also tons of badges to collect, story pages and art to unlock, and a lot of weird modes and lots of difficulty options and arms to collect, muscles to build, and calories to burn, so it's still a fun game as is.
I'm always up for some Switch Sports, though I'm not interested in convincing anyone, I just like having an excuse to play. Sounds like you haven't actually played it enough to know about Bowling. Resort had 100 pin bowling, Switch Sports has Novice, Medium, and Expert Special bowling in addition to the traditional taking turns, or simultaneous bowling which is also new and makes it much better, faster not boring games waiting for your opponent. You'll get the Beginner Special games if you play a few matches, and then when you get good, they'll give you Intermediate lanes, and if you're really good you can play on Advanced.
As for the random matchmaking not being practical, it's perfectly practical for me. I don't care for voice chat or whatever, so none of that discord stuff bothers me at all. When the game starts it takes like 2 seconds to get into a game looking for random players, maybe a minute to find players and that's it, none of that complicated stuff you said, you just set the controller down and wait for players to join. The game has tons of unlockable emojis, of which you can use 4 per game with L or R + a,b,x or y, and everyone has different ones (you may not have earned any, unless it starts you off with some default ones, I forget now), so it keeps things interesting; people can communicate they just have to be a little creative.
@Rykdrew Yeah probably, you've barely scratched the surface. I played 190 hours of it because shockingly it has over 190 hours worth of content. You played it for a few hours expecting it to be something else and then gave up before getting anywhere. You've got $6000 worth of games per year, that's $500 for games per month, that's wild, no wonder you don't play the games you buy, the fomo must be insane. But what I don't get is you can easily spend $500 per month on games, but the $20 a year for Switch online is too much for you and you complain about a $40 game being too expensive, despite it containing hundreds of hours worth of content. Do you usually buy online games with the sole purpose to play them offline? And then, here you are talking about a game you don't like when you've got more games to play than anyone, that should give you more fomo than playing a game you paid for.
The game is not called Wii Sports Resort Remastered, they never mentioned it was a follow up game to that spinoff, it doesn't even take place on Wuhu Island (as in the Resort). None of the games in Resort were online, there no titles to earn, emojis to earn, clothes to earn, Sharks, Astronauts, etc. No competition except for the a.i., and the a.i. wasn't that good. Were you playing Soccer against the CPU? That's an 8 player game, you're supposed to be relying on team work and reading your opponents, without the internet you're missing the whole point of the game.
With $500 per month, you get 8 AAA games per month (that's 2 AAAs per week), you're just spending too much money, you can't even play that many games it's a complete waste. If you only have time to buy and not play, that's not the games fault, it's your fault for wasting money when you clearly don't have time to devote to a single game.
The game is easy to play, it's not easy to win. You likely don't know any strategies, have no practice, know no tricks. Just being able to play something doesn't mean you know anything about how deep the gameplay gets. I play for a challenge, I'm A rank on Tennis, Bowling, Soccer, and Volleyball, you're most likely not even ranked yet and still in the random matchmaking. I feel like this will be rather one-sided but who knows, maybe I'm being overconfident. If you're up for a game my code is in my profile.
You just said you played it 5 hours, how would you know how good or bad soccer is? That's like 45 minutes per game. You wouldn't even know how to play the games at that point, that's not enough time to even figure out if you prefer kicking or swinging your arms. You're not even going to be ranked at that point. Why in the world did you spend money on a game you had no intention of playing? It says 7 games there, did you not read the box? Or do you just like buying whatever because money is just so useless for you that you buy games you don't even plan to play? And then you're so invested in the topic, you come here to complain about a game you don't play. When you bought it what exactly were you expecting? Are you going to try to act like Tennis and Bowling are anything but as good as they've always been? Sorry, I just don't understand your logic at all. If I didn't like a game, I wouldn't have bought it, and sure wouldn't go on a rant about a game I don't like endlessly. You don't see me in the Call of Duty (a game I have no interest in) forums complaining about Call of Duty. Isn't that a tremendous waste of time?
So what? They never said they were releasing more content to the game. They've never released more content for a Wii Sports game before (aside from Golf which they say is coming soon right on the box), this isn't the norm, people are just being entitled expecting more than what was promised. They never said here's 7 games, more on the way. If you don't like Tennis, Bowling, etc. don't buy the game. Vampire Survivors didn't need more content all of the time, people weren't complaining on launch day that there's wasn't enough there, a year after launch people weren't expecting more content without the dev specifically saying there's more DLC we're working on. If you want to buy a sequel with baseball (so boring), basketball, frisbee dog, etc buy that game if it releases. Expecting more content for a game that nobody said there would be more to, is again, setting yourself up for disappointment. People just use it as an excuse to hate on the game, as if what's there is anything but great. Like it's terrible, and we'll wait to buy it until it's complete, well if it's not good enough now, why do you think it will be so much better later. These 7 games are the ones that made it through, that weren't cut, that playtested good. We don't need games that even badminton was preferred over. Adding Tetherball or whatever isn't going to make the online 4v4 Soccer matches any better.
I didn't vote. This is stupid. The box says 7 games, we got 7 games. People expecting anything more are just setting themselves up for disappointment. It was a $40 game, I don't understand why people expect so much. When people buy Forza or God of War or Zelda are they expecting there to be more games on the cart? I guess Yakuza and Shenmue have a lot of games, but a year later do people still expect more games to be added? Did they get this whining for the Genesis collections? It's just so weird. Like this is the only game ever released where people expect more than what's on the box, more than what was claimed to be sold. Or at least I can think of no other game where this is such an issue. If you don't like what's there, you could just not buy it and play something else instead.
Of course, Nintendo always makes the most creative games. If you're going to say they're not creative the least you could do is play the games, if you don't even know what games they make how can you say how creative or uncreative their games are? This is a 1st party Switch game btw. This is just more proof that Nintendo makes weird games, but if it's not Zelda or Mario people just ignore it, and act like it doesn't exist.
[If you haven't figured it out, I was talking about Labo 02: Robot Kit. You build from flat sheets of cardboard a series of weights and pulleys and straps and infra-red tape, etc. a wearable robot exoskeleton with interactive visor that reacts in game 1 to 1 with your movements (counts your calories burned as well). And as amazing as it is, that might be the least interesting Labo kit (edit: of which the Switch has 5 including Game Builder Garage).]
@MrHonest This is a public forum, I'm responding because you said Nintendo isn't creative, and I said that sounds like something somebody who hasn't built a 1 to 1 robot exoskeleton would say.
This reads like it's never happened before, this organization sounds like they've been payed off, or are just incredibly out of touch. They're acting like Atari 2600 didn't get Pac Man even though it wasn't capable of running the arcade game. Gameboy got Killer Instinct and Mortal Kombat, GBA got Super Monkey Ball Jr, Space Channel 5, Jet Set Radio, they put Dragon's Lair on the NES. Those games weren't as good as on their original hardware, but this much weaker hardware is perfectly capable of running anything you make for it, it just has to be made specifically for that system in mind.
I just started playing a few days ago and I guess I don't get it. Without a controller I'm all over the place. The game and the maps look nice, but the controls are so frustrating it just makes me irritated every time I play. I think I'd rather just play Mario Kart 8.

The game comes with extra functionality to be creative if you want but that's not why people buy these games, it's to play stuff. If they limited it only to people interested in creating, barely anyone would buy it, I know I wouldn't.
Re: Poll: Are You Excited About Ubisoft's Metroidvania "Inspired" Prince Of Persia Platformer?
Looks good but no way am I buying anything from NFT scammers.
Re: Random: Square Enix's New Turf War Shooter Has 'Splatoon' Trending Online
I wonder if they have a dog that judges them at the end
Re: Random: Sony's Upcoming 'Project Q' Is A Little More Wii U Than Switch
I don't think it's a fair comparison. The Wii U had a 2nd screen for stuff like maps, inventory, etc.; you don't get any of that here.
Re: Review: Puzzle Bobble Everybubble! - Bubbles Over With Charm (And Useless Bots)
That looks great, random online was what I was looking for in a Puzzle Bobble so I'll definitely be picking this up when I can.
Re: Zelda: TOTK Is The Sixth Game Ever To Get Perfect Scores From Edge And Famitsu
This just shows how much of a bias for adventure games these reviewers have. I'll bet these games are great but there's more genres than just that.
Re: Square Enix Game Sales Down 12.2% Despite Multiple High-Profile Releases
I blocked them from Steam after they tried that NFT scam, and won't buy their games on the eshop either.
Re: Rumour: 'Mortal Kombat 1' Is Supposedly Coming To Switch
I'll believe it when I see it. I hate to put too much into the words of a leaker. But if they're seriously going back to Mortal Kombat 1, I really wish they'd film some actors again, rather than fancy graphics. I always missed that when they went full on graphics in 4 and onwards.
Re: Switch Hardware Sales Now Over 125 Million, PS2, Nintendo DS Target Still A Way Off
@Jalex__64 Definitely, Nintendo portables always dominate.
Re: Every First-Party Nintendo Switch Game That Has Sold Over One Million Copies
Re: Poll: Box Art Brawl Duel: Yoshi's Story
I usually go Japan but not this time. I think it looks like a 2d SNES game, and is generic. The NA/Europe one doesn't look great necessarily but at least you kind of know what you're getting.
Re: 'Double Dragon Gaiden' Announced With Scott Pilgrim-Inspired Visuals And Gameplay
Looks weird but I could go for a Double Dragon rogue-like if it's any good.
Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?
Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?
Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?
Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?
[edit: 190 hours here]
Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?
Re: Poll: One Year On, What Other Events Should Be Added To Nintendo Switch Sports?
Re: Soapbox: It's Time For A Zelda 1 Remake, Please
For sure, I try to play this and it's fun but I can't figure out where to go most of the time. A remake could make it a lot more accessible
Re: Nintendo Switch Is Not "Technically Capable" Of Running Call Of Duty Games, Says CMA
Re: Nintendo Switch Is Not "Technically Capable" Of Running Call Of Duty Games, Says CMA
@MrHonest This is a public forum, I'm responding because you said Nintendo isn't creative, and I said that sounds like something somebody who hasn't built a 1 to 1 robot exoskeleton would say.
So have you built one or not?
Re: Nintendo Switch Is Not "Technically Capable" Of Running Call Of Duty Games, Says CMA
@MrHonest You sound like someone who's never built a wearable 1 to 1 robot exoskeleton.
Re: Nintendo Switch Is Not "Technically Capable" Of Running Call Of Duty Games, Says CMA
Re: Mario Kart Tour Brings Back Classic SNES Circuit In Upcoming Bowser Tour Update
I just started playing a few days ago and I guess I don't get it. Without a controller I'm all over the place. The game and the maps look nice, but the controls are so frustrating it just makes me irritated every time I play. I think I'd rather just play Mario Kart 8.
