Re: Talking Point: What's The Highlight Of Your Game Collection?

Advantage

Over the past 20 years, I’ve owned a few gaming items that I especially loved and regarded as “valuable” (Eternal Darkness, Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn, double pack Wind Waker amiibos). For reasons, there were two occasions on which I had to sell much of what I had. Yes it did hurt, but I’ve learned to not hold things too tightly and I’m a bit more selective about what I acquire now. That said, I loved reading the responses to this question!

Re: Video: What Was Your First Video Game Ever?

Advantage

The first console that I owned was the NES (with Mario/Duck Hunt), which I received on Christmas ‘89. I also received Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, so for me the nostalgia is still strong with that game.

Prior to that, my neighbours loaned me their Collecovision with a handful of games. I especially remember playing Donkey Kong, Rocky boxing, and Time Pilot.

Re: Back Page: Making The Perfect Nintendo Frankenconsole

Advantage

Fun topic! Here’s my 2 cents for what I’d keep from each console:

NES: The NES Advantage controller, but also the colour scheme. It was my first console and the aesthetic of it still gives me the feels.
Gameboy: Just let me play Tetris.
SNES: The way the cartridges slid so smoothly into the top loader, and the satisfying tactile click as you pressed the release button
Virtual Boy: Nothing. Sorry, not interested.
N64: Multicoloured consoles and controllers
GCN: The GameCube Controller! It still feels so good to hold. Also, I loved the game cases - solid and felt good to snap closed.
GBA: Great library of games, but to me it’s only a portable SNES.
Wii: Proper light gun gaming.
DS: The clamshell form factor was so cool.
Wii U: A disappointing era for me in general, but I’ll keep the two HD remasters of Wind Waker and Twilight Princess.
3DS: Loved the 3D screen. I’ll forever wish it continued on.
Switch: HD handheld gaming with optional TV docking.

Edit: Of course I’m assuming the legacy of ‘stability’ would be preserved. I’d call the console “Nintendo Stabilizer”.
