We're really wondering what's going on over at Nintendo of America - Last week didn't have any VC games, but this week doesn't either! For about the 7th time in a row, there are 3 new WiiWare games, though.
Tales of Monkey Island Chapter 1: Launch of the Screaming Narwhal is the first episode in Telltale's new episodic series. Working together with LucasArts, they've managed to get their hands on the widely known Monkey Island franchise to create not one, but five new games with all-new adventures starring Guybrush Threepwood. Unlike Strong Bad, these games will follow the same storyline, so it's highly recommended to start with this first episode if you're interested in the series (And you should be!). We have already play tested the PC version of the game to death, which is exactly the same, so we'll have a review ready later today. Each episode will cost 1000 Wii Points, just like Strong Bad.
Today's second WiiWare game was also previously announced. The Three Musketeers: One For All! is a port of a recent PC game, but that's not necessarily a bad thing - WiiWare is in dire need of more platformers, and judging by screenshots and trailers, The Three Musketeers looks like a fun, colourful and possibly challenging one, and for 900 Wii Points it seems fairly priced. Naturally, we'll have a review of the game available soon.
We don't know much about HB Arcade Cards. It contains five card games which you can play against or with computer players. That's right, no multiplayer! Everything else about this game is shrouded in mystery, so either take a risk and download it for its 500 Wii Point price, or wait for our review.
DSiWare only gets a single new game, and it's another catch-up one - Hudson's Sudoku Student was already released in Europe as Sudoku 50! For Challengers a while ago. It's a decent little game, but the puzzles are mostly tailored to people new to Sudoku. Let's be honest though - Who hasn't played Sudoku before? Also, this game only contains 50 puzzles for 200 DSi Points, while you could buy Sudoku Master for 500 DSi Points and get 150 puzzles, meaning you get 25 puzzles free! If you do somehow feel you need easy Sudoku puzzles, read our review and see if it's the right game for you.
That's right, no Virtual Console game(s) again! What could Nintendo of America be waiting for? More from today's press release:

No VC, but two very anticipated (and possibly very good) WiiWare titles...which is a nice enough change in itself!
My thought is that WiiWare must be much more profitable for NOA.
Also I'll add that there are going to be a lot of unhappy campers this morning.
Yikes! No multiplayer in a card game!? meh.. Is this the first?
Nintendo might as well just make an official announcment they are not going to support the VC. It's turning into a broken promise on their part. If your in Europe I would not expect a VC update this week either. Were just stuck with more Wii Ware games which I'll never remember from week to week. Terrible update all around even for the Dsi Ware. So if Wii Ware becomes unprofitable at some point I guess Nintendo will ignore it as well.
Unless I get an explanation, this is serious bull. If they would just tell us something like "we're trying to catch up on releasing big WiiWare titles" it would be one thing, but no explanation at all is just sad.
...
This could actually mean something good. The same thing happened to Europe. Then they were hit with SSB. I still don't believe they'll kill the VC, but I predict a lot of bitching though.
@PopeReal: I guess you're right.
Way to go Nintendo.
Whatever. The WiiWare games look good, but there is still no excuse for no games 2 weeks in a row. Or maybe something big is on the horizon with the VC and this is the calm before the storm, maybe? I personally don't care anymore, this doesn't surprise me one bit with Nintendo. SSB will probably be the 350th game, which will likely come in the year 2012. Whatever, when it comes it comes. I decided to play threw The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess again, so I have something to play.
They're doing it on purpose just to wind you lot up.
In life, if you expect something, you are probably gonna end up being disappointed.
If your in Europe I would not expect a VC update this week either.
Not going to. I'll be quite surprised if we did get a VC game. There's very little for us to catch up to America now - just a few NES and SNES games we won't see outside of a Hanabi Festival - but nothing really that we could see in a regular week. The only straw we can clutch at is that Europe and America are seperate - NoA doesn't seem to care much what happens in Europe and the same can be said vice versa. Although some games are released close together, several are released several weeks or months apart from our two regions including some big name games everyone should get.
Marvel vs. Capcom 2 gets released on Wednesday on the XBox 360. I'll be downloading that game .
If there is no VC anymore then get used to seeing lots of poker and sudoku games
Tales of Monkey Island makes this a good update in my opinion. As long as there is at least one game I want to play, it's a good update.
@Tony: I hope not. I don't want anymore freakin' poker or sudoku games.
Ok, now I'm VERY mad!! WHAT IS WRONG WITH NINTENDO!? So, Nintendo plans to quit supporting the VC already!? I do not believe it!! I have been patient, and I'm trying to remain calm. But this is riduculous!!
I can't even begin to think what other people are going to say about this.
I hope we get Tales of Monkey Island this Friday... :].
@SuperSonic1990: Two weeks without VC is not proof that they will "quit supporting the VC".
Great!
At least it's good on the WiiWare front. Tales of Monkey Island and The Three Musketeers look very interesting.
@all of you complainers: I can't believe that out of all the games that are on VC, you can't find one that you will play. I've barely scratched the surface of all the classics on VC. I still haven't bought the likes of A Link to the Past and lots of other classics...
I can understand that you all want SMK, Yoshi's Island, EarthBound (it won't happen though), SSB, Star Fox, and lots of other AAA titles.
Oh well, I probably wouldn't play a new VC game much this week, since Wii Sports Resort is so awesome. I can wait for work to be over so I can get to some Archery, Swordplay, and 100 pin bowling.
I know there are so many other great games on the VC I need to catch up, so I don't get bummed about these weeks with no VC games. The only thing I am anxious about is for Super Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. to come to America, which I know will happen in due time. In the meantime, I am going to play some Majora's Mask and Paper Mario
Also, who knows, maybe 2 weeks without a VC title, means that they are gearing up for a big title. If you ask me, that is completely fine, I wouldn't mind waiting a few weeks and getting a AAA game.
@Machu-I actually wasn't excepting anything. In fact, I was excpeting to not see anymore VC games at all.
@E-160 Feraligatr-I have around a 100 VC games. But, I want more. So, I'm accused of being an ass from just complaining? I have a right to complain. You think I'm bad? Wait until you hear everybody else complain. There are going to be a lot of upset people today. You had no right to insult me like that. It appears you do not care about the VC service. Don't insult me when I have not said anything to you.
To bad, only Sudoku Student (Hahaha)
@ E-160 Feraligatr-I'm glad that riduculous comment was deleted either by you or the moderators. I was fixing to report it, but it looks like somebody beat me to it.
I agree with Super Sonic 1990 if you are fan and follower of a service and it gets dropped suddenly for no reason then of course you get upset. I have a large VC collection as well and there are lots of titles I would like to see come to the VC, but at the rate its going I'm not holding my breath. Bascially what Nintendo is doing to the Virtual Console is what Sega did to the 32x. This will hurt them in the long run because it causes a distrust with your loyal fans.
2 weeks with no VC game may not be proof the the VC will be stopped but the writing is on the wall.
I think they're holding off on a lot of VC titles until they can add the DSi (and the handheld stuff) to the VC. I'm going to be happy with what we've got so far, but I absolutely WILL be upset if Nintendo DOESN'T do the handheld VC (with possibly the other VC titles) on the DSi.
BJ
I know this might not be what you guys want to hear, but you could always invest in the actual system and game. If you want it bad enough.
I've been highly anticipating Musketeers and Monkey Island, so yay Nintendo. I was also hoping for a Final Fantasy VC game, so boo Nintendo.
But it's two to one, so yay Nintendo.
I think we'll be in for a big VC game next week, after the general horribleness of the last thousand weeks.
@26: LOL!
Meh, I don't care how lame of an update we got, Super Mario Land 2 comes in the mail for me today.
And yes, I do care about the VC. I'm just being the optimist by remembering that it happened to Europe, then they got SSB. I'm just mad because I think some people need to take a chill pill.
@SuperSonic1990: No, Nintendo's not fixing to abandon the VC already. Why would they get all these games ESRB/PEGI rated if they're never going to release them? D'oh.
@E-160 Feraligatr-You need to calm down. I feel like you are trying to start a debate with me. Of course, I have not beaten every VC game. But, that doesn't mean Nintendo needs to pull the plug on the VC.
@Corbie-I have my original Nintendo 64, but my N64 controllers have not aged well. I did buy Donkey Kong 64, and the Banjo Kazooie games. These consoles are not going to last forever. But, I did buy a NES/SNES combo system for Earthbound. I just like to have all my Nintendo games on one console.
Let's keep it civil here, folks. We all have our own opinions and that's great, but there's no need to call each other stupid or to hurl profanity at each other.
Consider the deleted comments your warning. Anything else and you're risking a more serious consequence.
Debating is fun...but there's no reason for rudeness.
@pixelman-There are numerous games being rated by the ESRB that have not come out. Sonic & Knuckles has been rated by the ESRB for a LONG time, but it has not come out. Let's not forget Earthbund either. Just because Nintendo plans to release a game does not mean they are going to release it. Nintendo changes their business plans like the wind.
On the other hand, I could be dying right now, so I won't complain.
Actually, I do expect a VC update in Europe - And I think it'll have Golden Axe.
@rustythekid-What do you mean? How could you be dying?
@SuperSonic1990: I don't want Ninty to pull the plug on VC either. They still haven't released a bunch of AAA titles.
And now I'm going to knock it off because if it keeps up, it will turn into a flame war that no one wants to read.
@Blaze: Which is why I think that complainers are being somewhat illogical.
@SuperSonic1990: Yes, but the fact stands that most of those games should be on there, and, barring Earthbound, there's no conceivable reason why they won't be, eventually. Remember, the Wii has around two to three more years until it's followed up by a new system. They have to space things out if it's going to last.
And to be honest, I've noticed that on days we get the bigger games on WW, we tend to get smaller games on the VC, and vice versa. I think it's a smart move by Nintendo - from a business standpoint.
Those kids with the 2000 points cards can only get so much per week. When next week comes around they'll have already forgotten about the stuff they decided to pass on.
It may not be the most popular policy, but it's probably the smartest.
Well, I can't say I'm surprised about the lack of a VC game but I still am a little disapointed. DSiWare continues to suck, also.
Wow, more DS sudoku. Really?
actually I would prefer nothing then a AAA title over crap then crap so i'll be pleased if it happens I'm crossing my fingers for ssb or final fantasy or something
yeah looks like the dsi is a ds and an i-phone without the phone that is made especially for sudoku lovers lol
I really don't care about VC anymore. On the other hand, I wasn't impressed with this week's WW and this is the longest we've ever gone without VC so I can understand fans of the service being upset.
@Blaze-But, I have this sinking feeling that Nintendo will not release any VC games next week. I think NOA feels like the VC service is unprofitable to them anymore, but WiiWare is. It is obvious that NOA is losing money from the VC service more than profiting from it. So, in conclusion:Nintendo cares about only money, not its fans when it comes to the VC service. That's fine, Nintendo. I will just download the Homeberw Channel, and I will never have to worry about the VC again.
I would prefer nothing then a AAA title over crap then crap
The crap games still have to be released some time. Best to get them out the way quickly.
"Also, who knows, maybe 2 weeks without a VC title, means that they are gearing up for a big title. If you ask me, that is completely fine,"
Its not like they actually have to do much real preparation for this..it is not like they're coding these games from scratch. They're basically taking existing roms, making sure they don't blow up on the wii and releasing them.
There is no excuse except utter disregard for the customers.
"Remember, the Wii has around two to three more years until it's followed up by a new system. They have to space things out if it's going to last." There are thousands of games for the systems, tens of thousands if you count some estimates of the C64 games catalog. If this system was the only system for the next 100 years they wouldn't run out of games at this rate.
WTH NOA!!! not again i might just sell my wii if things dont change jk
Wii ware Really good just nothing i want
Dsi ware i better not say anything
VC i better not say anything
Any im off to play more WSR its in my top 5 favorite wii games at the moment
im not happy with the no vc game weeks either.........japan is getttin virtual console arcade games..........it doest look good for vc fans of north america......the even worse part is there is nothin the fans can do.... if u write a email to nintendo about it u will get the same auto email responce.....if u call they will just brush u off .....
If I had solid reason to expect something great on the horizon for VC, I wouldn't be so pissed about the lack of releases. But Nintendo can't be bothered to tell us what they're planning, and they have a bad enough history of screwing us over for me to not be optimistic (plus I'm not a generally optimistic person to begin with)! So really, as usually happens when Nintendo does something that appears stupid at first glance, it's more the lack of explanation from them that pisses me off than the action itself. Get them to explain themselves, and THEN I'll calm down!
Hang on, so two weeks out of a month there's no VC releases and therefore NoA are abandoning the service? So if the Wii had no disc releases for a couple of weeks is Nintendo no longer publishing Wii disc games?
I really don't understand how people jump to these conclusions...
u no super sonic i can see why people use home brew channel and emulaters to play the games they want......nintendo finally has the chance to make legal games for us to play and they wont release nothin.....whats a vc fan to do......
"It is obvious that NOA is losing money from the VC service more than profiting from it."
Lol. Okay, so it costs them a few bucks to get one of their coders to rip a rom off an SNES cart, and then slap up a few KBs of data on their massive servers. They can leave it there and rot forever and it won't cost them anything.
The only games that require a substantial amount of effort are the N64 games. And most of those are already out in Japan!
Mario Kart, Final Fantasy, all those games have already been released in Japan. It'll take minimal effort to throw them up. Like I said earlier, they're planning their releases carefully. At the moment, they don't want to distract sales from the big WiiWare games.
I don't even know what to say to this. Why would Nintendo just STOP releasing VC games? It's been incredibly profitable for them and it was a huge success... something just doesn't add up here. It's hard to be optimistic after two weeks of nothing. At least in Europe they were just being conservative to prepare for rush of import titles but we don't have release specials like that ever. Maybe it really is the end of our beloved service...
Thank you Monkey Island!
Other than that, when it rains it pours.
Forgive me for being blunt, but you guys make me laugh.
"OMG NO VC GAME FOR TWO WEEKS NINTENDOS ABANDONING US BYE VC WAAH!"
Honestly. I can see why you'd be upset about not them not releasing any new games for a couple of weeks (I'm not particularly happy about it myself), but saying that this is substantial reason for them ending the service is, in short, ridiculous.
Maybe we'll get Final Fantasy next week.
"At least in Europe they were just being conservative to prepare for rush of import titles but we don't have release specials like that ever"
Those are special for us because they never got released in Europe in the first place, whereas a lot of them did in America (Super Mario RPG, Ogre Battle, Kirby's Dream Land 3, etc)
Here comes the whining.
"OMG WAT, NO SMASH BROS"
"WTF NINTENDO NO FINAL FANTASY?"
"WHERE IS MARIO KART?!?!?!"
"NINTENDO IS ABANDONING VC!!!"
>_>
@Sean Aaron: Tell me about it. There's no reason to suggest that they'd abandon the service altogether and it's rather premature to insinuate such.
I don't think they're abandoning the VC. I think they're preparing something special for us next week. So it's going to take a little bit of time for them to prepare the Game(s) for us.
Lol I just thought of this now.
Monkeys challenge musketeers to sudoku and cards!
@Rapadash6: I hope they don't end the service
@Rum Rapture
You fail to see my point, obviously. What I mean is we don't have any special VC events like that here in America, so there is no good reason for Nintendo to hold onto releases over here because they aren't preparing for a month of more releases than usual like they just did for you guys.
Okay, so now I'm a little worried. Two weeks and no VC kinda scares me, to be honest. I don't want to see the VC end, and a two-week absence, when it hasn't happened before, is a bit frightening. However, I will keep up hope that Nintendo is just waiting for a lackluster WiiWare update to drop their AAA titles.
Must have hope...and if not that, MOAR GOLDEN SUN!!!
Another NO VC week... BOOOOOOO!!!!
i am not sure how to feel for musketeers seems slighty over priced
and regarding the vc its not up to nintendo but the original developers of the vc games to make them, why else do you think atlus said " we will not make any of are old games on the vc it doesn't make us any money" and when interplay last year sent a press message with the vc games they were working on, nintendo only has say on games they made i am taking this as a sign as i did late last year company's are losing there love for the vc thats why nintendo did the vc arcade to try to get more games and company's to care again
It is weird that they would go so long without releasing anything for VC. A few weeks back they released three WW and one VC game. It's not like there have never been big ticket WW releases before. I'd understand if they released a low profile game, or if every time there had been two WW releases, there was no VC. I don't even care if they release "crap" titles. Why? Because somebody probably has nostalgia for them, and that's what VC is all about.
There's stuff that's ready to release. Just release something low profile that only hardcore fans of the title would probably download anyway, and go for it. Commodore 64 is a pretty niche market, for example (not on nintendolife, but probably in the full body of wii owners or even VC downloaders), but their market research showed that there was a large enough contingent to make it worth releasing. A C64 or old arcade title wouldn't eat to much into WW sales. Kids wouldn't be buying that, adult gamers who remember the titles with more disposable income would be. They could buy both, or would have skipped the WW anyway, so no big deal. They released plenty of niche (or "crap" as is more commonly known here) titles while we were waiting for Majora. That's why people are worried that VC is no longer being supported.
Yeah, there are a lot of VC games I haven't played and beaten that are already out. There's still more I want though, and it would be sad if VC got left by the wayside. Who knows, maybe we'll be getting some super big releases soon once they clear this rush of WW out of their queue. It still makes me a bit nervous though.
@WhoKnew Who knew? I thought that those people with that job at Nintendo who get paid who knows how much to come up with download headlines were the only ones who were good at it. You should get hired!
BOO! VC is dying! No more games! (It's called "reverse psychology".)
You have to got to be freaking kidding me! I AM SO PISSED OFF NOW! HONESTLY NINTENDO?!? What is the point in not releasing a VC game? You've sunk to a new low. Looks like they're not supporting the VC anymore.
Somewhere out there NOA is laughing at us. Our tears must taste SOOO sweet.
I wouldn't get my hopes up for that muskateer game if you hate waggle. From interviews and such, it sounds like you only shake the controller to attack. Ugh!
Hmm.. I'll pass this week. PC ports don't interest me in the least. Guess I can focus on my backlog of disc games. I'm hopeful for something big next week on the VC, but after that it looks rather dim..
You people who say,"VC is dead!" is hilarious. It is called being patient. Nintendo either has a plan or is just being dumb(pretty sure it is the latter). Not sure how many of you know, but US people were waiting months for FF7 to be on the Playstation Network after Japan got it. Heck, at one point, the PS Network didn't get any PS1 games for a few months. Just like you guys, they were mad. I can understand that, but I'm pretty sure I never heard any of the PS fans say something as crazy as,"Sony stopped supporting PS1 classics on the PSN".
I'm pretty sure most of you have lots of VC games that you have yet to get off the service anyway. I sure know I do.
this is bull ****
It's hard for me to get worked up over the VC when there are so many solid games left for me to download. And I seriously doubt Nintendo would abandon the service when there is still money to be made...
(The most likely scenario is that NOA simply believes in staggering releases to maintain a consistent flow and generate interest in each week's titles without drowning them out. This way people will give the WiiWare titles--such as The Three Musketeers--more consideration without blindly using up their Wii for nostalgic purposes. Keep in mind that NOA has a vested interest in the WiiWare service and needs to create a legitimate market to lure developers and content. Meanwhile, I reckon most VC games are purchased on a relative whim due to fond memories. So there's a delicate balance here between luring gamers to the service with classic VC titles and encouraging them to download new WiiWare games. In that sense many previously released VC titles--the Marios, Zeldas, etc.--are still serving their purpose so NOA is careful not to overload the service with classics and instead stagger the releases to use them as carrots, of sorts. The result is that the WiiWare releases get their chance at appropriate billing and for the independent developers taking a chance on the service this is no small issue. I know it won't make anyone feel better about the situation, but hopefully those of you who preaching doom and gloom for the VC can see that it's more about business than anything else...)
Besides, there's nothing wrong with entirely new games and I, for one, am thrilled to see Tales of Monkey Island on the WiiWare. As good as the Strong Bad games were, I expect ToMI to be the definitive Adventure series on the Wii. I just hope the episodic nature of the series doesn't leave us with a snoozer or two...
Also, I know The Three Musketeers is a beloved PC game with a lot of love and care poured into it. So it's great to see it receive a second life on the WiiWare, which seems to be the perfect outlet for it's charming presentation and classically simple gameplay. Fans of Klonoa or, to a lesser extent, Viewtiful Joe should keep an eye on this one. (Here's a pretty good review of the PC version: http://www.deeko.com/pc/reviewDetail.asp?id=683 )
I was hoping for Phantasy Star! Oh well. I'll just get it off the Japan Wii Channel and inject the English rom into it.
Maybe we'll start seeing some Final Fantasy games next week
Perhaps you guys could do another VC Wishlist while we wait for the next VC game?
You have got to be kidding me. Are they really planning to abandon the Virtual Console? This is why you need to sign my petition to save the Virtual Console once and for all! You guys don't understand that Nintendo could take the same plung as Cartoon Network when they cancel Toonami. Please sign this to save the Virtual Console, it may be our best hope:
http://www.petitionspot.com/petitions/vcindanger
It's been two weeks without an Virtual Console week and I fear that Nintendo of America is going to cancel it without warning, just like Cartoon Network did with Toonami. I am getting scare now about what Nintendo of America is doing to the Virtual Connsole.
If you want this done the other way, e-mail Nintendo about it. Maybe Nintendo of Japan can force NOA to get off there lazy butts and save the Virtual Console in North America.
Good lord, why are people pining so badly for FF1....it really wasn't all that great in NES form.....the remakes on the GBA/PSX were way better with enhanced graphics and great stereo music....get a grip, I would much rather see the Mega Man series or some of the great arcade classics, Final Fantasy 1 is the least of my concerns
nothing for me this week, but that's fine as long as Flipnote Studio is released nxt week
Ya'll are crackin me up! Think I'll get this actually bcuz I have 300 pts I need to spend and I got the Challengers title and its freaking hard! But yeah, we need more releases!!
No Cave story and no VC this week..
T_T
@Super+Smash+Bros+Fan1999:
Good lord, you too? You guys are so ridiculous.
I hope that's all we need to do is to take is a chill pill!
Nintendo must make money out of VC, well they would if we get Super Mario Kart!!! Mario all Stars, My list could go on for some time, boring people!
Going back to Nintendo ditching VC I don't think so, if Japan still get their VC fix then so should the rest of us and what effect would this have on Nintendo publications. I'd say lets wait and see if the big N announces any thing, Let's see that list for Japan's VC for August. (Hopefully that will be published soon and put up by the great people at Nintendo-Life)
I don't think having no VC games is so bad. We already have around 300 and if you're REALLY impatient, you could always buy the original, the game in a compilation, etc. since a lot of the games people really want can be found cheap (though buying a system for one game would be pointless so make sure there are several you want before grabbing one).
Some more DSi Ware games in the future would be nice. There's not much else I can get except clocks and calculators and I've already had my Sudoku fix. With one title a week and a small back catalog, I'm hoping more come per week since these games can't be obtained elsewhere (except some which are on iPod Touch).
Heh, I am not that interested in WiiWare, since all of the releases are foreign to me. (That is right; I am unfamiliar with Monkey Island. OSUWARI!)
As for the lack of Virtual Console, I really hope that Nintendo is taking more time in order to sort things out with that wish-list we sent Nintendo some time ago.
Also, I know that I did not download all of the games I wanted off Virtual Console; I just do not see the point in these delays, considering all of the games left to be released off 7 or 12 consoles as well as Arcade.
Totally getting the Musketters game!
Has anyone written Nintendo a email asking them why we haven't got VC games in two weeks. Pointless to complain among each other. We as fans (journalist that needs to actually do their jobs) need to get to the bottom of it.
@SuperSonic1990: "I have around a 100 VC games."
Only a 100? Then what's the problem? There's around 200 VC games out there you don't have, I really doubt you're unable to find something enjoyable among those.
I'm with pixelman, some of you guys are really over reacting, NOA is not going to abandon VC, that would be silly, the service has too many fans, and they know it, I believe they are just going to start spreading the VC releases a bit, as Lanmanna mention, Sony has done it this way since the beginning with PS1 games; many of you will find this outrageous anyway, but since we already got more than what I was expecting from the VC, I have no problem.
The wiiware releases are fine, but I'm only barely interested in The Three Musketeers, I'll wait for the review.
I can't believe the card game is not online. Come on Cribbage is a multiplayer game. These game developers need to start utilizing online play this is BS!
@everyone that says there are plenty of VC to download well start downloading them you slackers. I've spent well over $500 maybe $600 on VC and WW games and for me there are no more games that I want to download. There are a ton of games I want and half a month without a update to the list is like depriving me of brains.
@morons that think VC is done, grow some brains. You really think VC is done...seriously?!? Just WOW...probably the same idiots that think we didn't land on the moon too huh or that think zombies aren't real either?
@HEMIII: Have you even completed all those games?
@pixelman: Most of them, half of them I did when I was young.
Ugh, no VC release again...how disappointing...
Oh well. Maybe this means something huge is coming in the coming weeks. I'll play Yoshi's Story on VC and Wii Sports Resort while I wait.
Nintendo would've made a public announcement if they were going to end the VC, though it's easy to think they are since there are plenty of games I know are all ready to go on their end. (Super Mario Kart anyone?)
Still, this is no way to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Mother/Earthbound(Zero)! Sure I wasn't expecting them to release it now or ever for that matter, but something is better than nothing.
Having said that, making a petition about this is taking this way too far! Remember, the VC getting cancelled is just an ASSUMPTION that someone made at around comment #1-10. Making a petition about it will just look immature and Nintendo definitely won't listen. We all saw what happened (or what didn't happen for that matter) with the myriad of petitions and media packages sent to Nintendo about getting Mother 3 in the states.
Is it just me or do you think that next week Nintendo really needs to release another Sudoku game on the DSi service?
ahh, i love the smell of VC hysteria in the
morningafternoon... personally, i think they're building up for a really good VC week soon."Ugh, no VC release again...how disappointing...
Oh well. Maybe this means something huge is coming in the coming weeks. I'll play Yoshi's Story on VC and Wii Sports Resort while I wait."
See, now that's the right perspective.
There is good concern that there may be no more VC. Let's take a look at the facts:
1. No VC game for the past 2 weeks
2. No VC game on the ESRB radar for the past 2 weeks
3. Nintendo Power no longer doing Virtual Console polls each month(according to the latest issue)
4. Most likely is Eu will not get a VC update this week.
Just a note on the side quit giving Smash Bros. Fan such a hard time. For many the VC was a selling point and Nintendo made a lot (and I mean a lot) of promises for that they are failing to live up too. I am sorry but Wii Ware was not a selling point for me getting a Wii. Aside from Mega Man 9 and Orbient, I could easily live without it since many of the games you can find in one dollar bins of any store. The VC is a chance to get classics that are much more rare and hard to find. If Nintendo does discontinue the service it will be very hard to believe them when they hype future systems and services.
@Tony
That is all true. I personally feel like they could've given a little more on their promises, but starting a dinky little petition about it will achieve little, if anything.
Tony, all of that is BS and you know it. Nintendo would have said something. They are not all of a sudden canceling VC. Stop over reacting.
This comment is aimed at those people saying that we have enough VC games. Just because we have over 300, that doesn't mean they are all good. Just read Corbie's review for double dungeons.
@uel
Of course they're not all good. And I want new VC games just as much as the next guy. But there's not one that can keep your ravenous appetite for classic gaming satisfied for one week?
Of course you all right. How could anyone think the VC is being phased out? I mean just look at the overwhelming support for the newly announce Virtual Console Arcade service! Oh wait bad example
@Tony: I agree completely. Look what happen to Cartoon Network when they cancel Toonami without any warning. There ratings went down dramaticaly and are no longer the popular channel they used to be. Why? Toonami was the best part of many of it's former fans and when they cancel it without warning, they were outraged and as a result, the majority of it's fans left Cartoon Network. Fans of all ages were outraged because of this and stop watching Cartoon Network. I even did an failed written petition on Cartoon Network at school and it didn't work out. Also contributing to it's lack of ratings is the poor quailty of the shows.
Listen people. We may not have any confirmation of the Virtual Console premature death, but at this rate, it can happen. Nintendo might make an public announcement right now that they are cancelling the Virtual Console and we won't be able to do anything about it. At first, I was only attracted to the Wii for it's motion controls, but when I got my Wii online, my selling point became the Virtual Console and Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. I know for a fact that they will never get rid of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, but they can kill the Virtual Console anytime they want without warning. Think if that happen. If you're an muticonsole, you would be mad too, but you'll be able to keep cool eventually and forget about the Virtual Console. Wii-only owners who also grew up with Nintendo in the NES, SNES, and N64 days like me however will be devastated if the Virtual Console died prematurely. I will have no reason to play my Wii almost daily anymore. I might have no choice but to do these things:
#1: Get an Playstation 3 as soon as possible.
#2: Quit video game all together and find a new hobby or start helping my family more.
Or..
#3: Do the best I can to bring back the Virtual Console.
I will most likely do #2, because I did the same thing after Cartoon Network striped Toonami from it's channel (That is, don't watch TV much anymore.).
Video games and cartoons used to make up my life, now that cartoon died in quality, video games was the only thing I could resort to in order to escape from the realities of the world. Each console, Nintendo was always unqiue and are always making ingenious ideas, but canceling the Virtual Console is like Nintendo shutting the door to it's fans and giving us no other ways to escape from reality.
Nintendo has always been my favorite video game company of all time, even when I owned an PS2 and when the Gamcube was an disappointment. If they prematurely kill the Virtual Console, it's like they killed my childhood memories completely.
This is why I did the petition. Because I want to preserve our childhood memories and save the remaining hardcore fanbase from abandoning Nintendo.
Anybody up for making an video in memory of Nintendo and Sega?
@Tony read comment 98. then go down to @morons, thanx and have a nice day buddy and btw we landed on the moon and no our government did not set up 9/11 and yes there our zombies proof being one ate your brain. Sorry buddy but you can't line up a couple of small events that you think are the downfall of VC and call it the end of the VC world. Get real it will never happen, not until we get it all and we don't have it all not even close. Somebody will burn NOA down if they do and I'm sure someone will do the same to NHQ over in the other regions too if they do, I love riots. We need more riots especially ones that mean more, lmao. I should live in a third world country so I can start a riot. It gets boring over here in the hills of WV. Why do you think I spend so much on VC and WW games?
Yeah, I still got like 50 VC games I haven't downloaded yet, and I'm sure they bring out more by the time I catch up, I'm downloading Donkey Kong Country 3 as we speak.
@Hyperstar96: That's a bit excessive, severe lack of VC games? There's over 300 of them. Wii Shop has the most classic games from old systems out of the three main consoles out now so I don't see a point in complaining.
I'm gonna get Monkey Island for sure
EU better get at least 4 wiiware games this Friday, or else!
@HEMII: I've spent more than you on VC and WiiWare and your'e calling me a slacker because I haven't gotten them all?
@SSBfan: yeah it could but it's not man, this isn't some cartoon that people didn't watch except for you. It's only 2 F*#@ING WEEKS. Chill the hell out man. The world is not goin' to end but it does sound like you need some air so get out have a walk about and wait till next week.
I think it's funny (and sad) how people like to panic whenever something marginally abnormal happens.
Earlier this year people were going nuts about the lack of new AAA Wii games. I kept telling them, "wait for E3". Bam, Nintendo delivered. Super Mario Galaxy 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a new 2D/3D Metroid, Golden Sun DS, Wii Fit Plus, all of those games (and more) were announced.
Be patient.
Yeah lets wait and see!
@chunky_droid: Reread what I said. Some people say that there are alot of games to chose from which is true but I've gotten all that I want from the list but it sounds like they haven't gotten all they want yet so I was just messing around calling them slackers. And yes I'm callin' you a slacker now ha, just because I can. Well actually because I have to re-explain what I said to you.
go to gonintendo.com look at the letter nintendo sent them......vc is doomed
everyone go to gonintendo.....if that is true ....vc is really doomed
@pixelman: Yeah, and even then people still weren't grateful.
@KnucklesSonic8: So true.
@ocarinaoftime: Yeah, they didn't mention or imply anything about canceling the VC service, just that WW is doing better and they'll be giving it more support hereafter.
oh yeah and yes Corbie already established I am a slacker: http://vc.nintendolife.com/news/2009/07/what_nintendo_games_do_you_want_to_see_on_the_virtual_console
Comment 68.
I disagree with the points about "you should be happy, there is over 300 hundred games on the VC, why do you need more that's too many classics" nonsense. The purpose of the VC as stated by Nintendo at E3 a few years back was to draw in gamers in who are 30-40 years of age. It was supposed to be an itunes of classic gaming allowing people to customize their Wii with their favorite games. The first year was awesome they did a great job. The second year was good. This year pretty so-so but with new systems like C64 and Arcade things still look strong. Even if Nintendo does not cancel the VC service the way they are handling it now is poor at best. So my point is a classic gaming service should not stop at 300 games and it would be best for Nintendo to be upfront about where they want to go with this service.
Pretty much jack $#!^ for me. I'll go back to beating my Backloggery then.
"@everyone that says there are plenty of VC to download well start downloading them you slackers. I've spent well over $500 maybe $600 on VC and WW games and for me there are no more games that I want to download."
HEMII-san, you now increased my motivation in downloading Virtual Console. After compiling my lists of WiiWare and Virtual Console games that I want, I discovered that I want 7 WiiWares for 6,700 and 10* VCs for 6,500. (All I need to do now is wait until I get a job, and there is bound to be more VC releases until then, since I know that the job will not come until August 17, the day when I go back to school.)
About Super Smash Bros. Fan1999-san, I support him, since he is giving really good reasons as to the support of Virtual Console. I would sign his petition, but I am not so sure about putting my last name. (I am currently considering my decision; I MIGHT sign the petition.) However, I will spread the word of this petition, since I also want a better future for Virtual Console.
First off:
When the comment section on any Nintendo Download reaches way past over 100; then there is one serious problem!! Now talking about the serious problem that this is the 2nd week in a row without NO VC game is one thing; but people, people people... you all just need to grow up, take a chill pill, & stop acting immature about saying crap like the VC is doomed & starting petitions!!
Also how about this:
Anyone in favor who are sick of @ Super Smash Bros. Fan1999's constant petition that will do no good... say I!
I bet there will be tons who would reply to this especially; insluding myself!
Also I bet those who would reply to this comment about this; would be those who keep saying they can wait patiently, throughout the good, bad, or omg ugly!
Also fair warning: No one had better flame/ban me about my post here!
Like I said fair warning; & I wasn't going to post at all anyways... because I've had so much I could take from this stupid site! Reasons why I never like to say anything I don't mean in the first place; but I know they're true! Also reason why I don't normally like to come here often & post like a craxy stupid idiot! Unlike those who flood comments and forums with multiple posts/comments on here anyway!
I'm just as sick and mad at this whole ordel as everyone else... but it's still nothing to get upset about! Blame Nintendo all you want; but yes I know we're all intitled to our own opinions!
@Captain+Jack+Sparrow: Um, can you chill with the "Don't flame me" comments at the end of each of your posts? It makes you sound like you're not confident in what you're saying.
Also, if you're so sick of this "stupid site", why don't you just leave? Seriously?
Again like I said; it's just a stupid internet site, & it's just Nintendo's fault that we're not getting the the good handful of games we're dying for on Wii Shop Channel!!
So don't blame me if I enjoy stating the obvious all of the time; trust I get sick of it everyday!!
People need to stop acting so immature about Nintendo Downloads all of the freaking time!! You can do something better with your lives instead of obsessing over Nintendo you know!!
Now do you get the freaking point on what I said?! Tell me that if you have the guts to say something again?!
I love how he has the audacity to call everyone else out as being immature...
Point is complaining does nothing people; stop doing it so much and this site could be a better place!! Or in fact; the world would be a better place if everyone stopped hating on Nintendo all of time time... but like I keep saying; what can you do about it?!
And I wasn't even going to join these arguments in the first place; but now look what you made me do you bastards!! i swear this site just get a bad rap for all of the freaking people that get on here who don't have a smart brain in their heads!!
And I'm not saying those who are actually good people I wish to care about or not; because trust me I don't like staying on this silly site long enough for 24/7 days a week!
@KnucklesSonic8: OW. Burned.
@Captain: Most of what you're saying makes sense. Most of what you're saying has also already been said half a dozen times in this very comments section.
@Pixelman comment 140
Well DUH I agree!
Yes... like I keep saying! Not a lot of people aren't just too bright now a days!
@142 MetroidMedia: So true; glad someone is smart enough!
i just bought my 360 a few days ago and i love it.
i always hated wii haters untill 2008 when i realized the wii sucked. then i finaly bought a 360 and understand why, i could play 3x as many genisis games on 360 than i could on Wii with the smalest hard drive(20)
I'll give Nintendo one more chance, if not a single VC game comes out next week (August 3rd), then I'll consider that the VC is dead and go back to emulators and compilations!
DSi is geting some good DSi ware titles though
@Clinker: Compilations FTW!
I look at it this way, Nintendo gave us 2 VC games 2 weeks ago and to me it looks like we would've got Pulseman last week, and Secret Command this week, which would make sense.
Unless Ninty forgot about the VC entirely.... Hmm
@ Jolted85: i doubt it they probably just dont like to put out good games and they are running out of poo to put on VC so thats why there is so many wii ware games
Post deleted
@Captain: Stirring up needless hate against someone's honest efforts is unnecessary. I don't support is petition, but I'm not attacking it either. Get a life.
So anyway, how's everyone enjoying today's games? That is, those who actually decided to get something.
@KnucklesSonic8: I don't have any Wii points, unfortunately. However, it's getting very close to my birthday. If anyone would like to gift me The Three Musketeers, I'd be very happy. Hint hint.
I just threaten to eat NOA employees faces off if they don't deliver and they listen
"FOR THE WIN" jeez WTF FTW = F%$& THE WORLD silly kids.
Way I see it, I might as play catch up with the backlog. I recently purchased Kirby 64, and probably will get Kirby 3 sooner or later.
@154. pixelman's comment:
Well some other people need to get their own lives & stop complaining... like I keep saying! I'm tired of this constant arguing anyway; end of freaking story!
And I'll still be waiting for those who dare say they hate @ Super Smash Bros. Fan1999!
Soon WTF will be We'll Talk Friendly or something lame like that.
@Capn: You do realize you're complaining about people complaining, right? I can complain about you complaining about people complaining. See? It's pointless. All you're doing is adding to the complaints.
Also, you can make your point without attacking, offending, or possibly hurting others.
I am planning on getting Tales of Monkey Island but I'm going to wait for CB's Three Muskateers review before I decide get it. I'm disappointed that there was no VC game again this week but not at all surprised. I still have my hands full playing Little King's Story and My Life as a Dark Lord so this doesn't bother me too much. I am excited about all the cool WiiWare games on the horizon! We just to need be patient and good things will come!
@160. pixelman
@Capn: You do realize you're complaining about people complaining, right? I can complain about you complaining about people complaining. See? It's pointless. All you're doing is adding to the complaints.
Also, you can make your point without attacking, offending, or possibly hurting others.
Well try saying that to those who waste their lives on this stupid site!
@Capn Jack Sparrow-Including yourself. So you win 2 Hypocrisy Awards, one for "complainers" and one for "wasting time on this stupid site." So please keep these thoughts to yourself and let's keep the discussion on the article.
Guys, this is the second time I've had to come into this thread and weed out comments. Play nice.
We can all disagree with each other. That's okay. Nobody has to share anybody else's opinion.
But you DO have to chill out with the profanity and personal attacks. That's not cool.
You remember what happens when you piss off the chickens in Legend of Zelda? Because if you don't, I can remind you.
"You remember what happens when you piss off the chickens in Legend of Zelda? Because if you don't, I can remind you."
That is the best Mod Warning ever. Well done, CB.
Get em Chicken Brutus.... Was a crap week for Downloads though. So is Nintendo done with DSiWare already too. I mean come on its a new service and its getting ONLY puzzle games. Whatever......Im about to stop even looking week to week and stick with PSN downloads.
@Chicken Brutus: that should go into your signature. :3
"You remember what happens when you piss off the chickens in Legend of Zelda? Because if you don't, I can remind you."
Favorite quote of the year. Well done.
Lol, I remember what happened the first time I harassed them in Phantom Hourglass. Oh boy did that ever surprise me! It was great though.
@theblackdragon he should right. That was awesome Chicken Brutus.
@ Captain Jack Sparrow: When you attack my petition, you made me laugh more then mad. Good job for being an hypocrite! Now if you excuse us, we'll continue this polite discussion without you bothering us. Also, I do not waste my life in this site.
Well the only game here that interests me in the slightest is Tales of Monkey Island, which I'm not getting cuz A. I DLed MI: SE the other day off Steam and have yet to start it, and B. I'm against episodic games. I wonder if Three Musketeers is any good?
@BlackDragon. Agreed.
I'm really hoping that 3 musketeers gets a shining review
My question is, when will the VC update return??
@chicken brutus lol at zelda chickens reference
YAY! for Chicken Brutus. I agree with theblackdragon that is signature material.
Normally I'd be more disappointed about the mysterious disappearance of VC updates, but Little King's Story has taken over all of my free time, so I probably wouldn't have downloaded anything new anyway.
@Chicken Brutus WTH was my comment erased for? 152. I don't even know why Captain Jack said I was a pig, lol. I remember just stating that what Captain Jack said was funny and asking Metroidmedia what FTW meant? You might as well erase 150 now that you deleted my original because now people will always wonder about what was really said. I can always say I said something about eating small children for breakfast and using their brains for boot wax. Then goin' out to eat NOA faces off and using their ears for some kind of necklace and feeding their penises to Andrew Zimmerman, lmao. Maybe it was what I said and that's why Capt. Jack said I was a pig. hummm?
I derive significantly more entertainment from responses and dissatisfaction towards the VC than the VC itself (of course, I've only got 2 games from it that I never play because I don't have the time, but whatever).
Usually I would say that when a business does something that seems to us outside of their best interests, we should take into account that they know a lot more about their situation than we do. However, this second week completely lacking is puzzling. Still, there are a great many people overreacting...
@SuperSmashBros: constructive criticism: if you already know you have spelling/grammar issues, please take care to proofread before you post. When your first sentence includes "save the faith", you've got some issues.
Toonami was cancelled because of significantly declining ratings. I'd say that was because it appealed more to a demographic (mine) that used to watch it, but had long since grown up and left it for its sexy/funny/awesome older sister, AdultSwim. As [as] is considered seperately in the rating from CN, naturally the ratings would constantly decline. Also, there hasn't been much of quality for quite some time, since they were stuck in Naruto's filler hell and decided to inch through One Piece's new dub slowly. As opposed to the many, many, MANY poor business decisions done by the network recently, taking Toonami out back and putting it out of its misery was probably for the best.
Having read your entire petition, I see that you could use some help. Your heart seems to be in the right place, but your mind seems to be wandering aimlessly. I wasn't sure which parts were aimed at Nintendo or other Wii owners. There were many parts highly unnecessary, like the list, or the venting frustrations at Cartoon Network. If you're going to do this, I recommend an extensive rewrite. Good luck to you.
Incidentally, how old are you?
whoa, I'm not sure I want to know the age range of all the boy Links on here swinging their wooden swords.
seriously, though, did anybody get any of these games and have any impressions to share? enough with the juvinille VC gripes already.
Anyone else remember when VC was first announced? They said (paraphrased) "Four games per week... covering the best of all past nintendo systems". Instead we were lucky to get 3, usually 2, recently 1, and now 0. And there's some big games, but its mostly obscure crap no one wants getting 3/10 reviews.
@wanderlustwarrior: I'm a teen, but that's all I can reveil.
So much for releasing top notch VC games during the empty summer months, ay Reg?
I just bought Life Force. Now was that so hard? Sometimes all you can do is just sit back, enjoy what you've already got, and hope for the best.
Nothing here for me. I was looking forward to the Wiiware games, but without any VC games, their arrival seems bitter sweet. All hope has been lost...
and where the bloody hell is Final Fantasy 1?! I can't start Final Fantasy Fest without it! Do I have to emulate it for the 4th time?? Okay, looking back, I shouldn't have expected it to come any time soon, but still, it's the only potential VC game that I'm really looking forward to at the moment, and since I just bout 3 other FF games in preparation of FF Fest, I just had to hope for it.
Oh well, at least now I'll have more money for Marvel vs. Capcom 2...if it's any good, at least.
@SSBF: as am I, but theres a big difference between 19 and, lets say, 14. ah well
@winter123: Yeah, i guess they realized that wasn't sustainable. Still, it fell apart surprisingly quickly.
@ren: yeah, still i'm nothing like There Will Be Brawl's captain falcon. little boys just don't do it for me.
@181: Talk to Square-Enix.
@WhoKnew
Why would I do that? They aren't the ones who are in charge of the VC, ESRB, nor any other organization that is involved with the approval and release of new VC games. Square-Enix already said they submitted both Final Fantasies. That's about all they can do.
I REALLY hope someone from Nintendo sees this comments section of this article so they can realize that hey were really starting to piss off our fans big time so maybe we should actually get our act together and start releasing good games instead of apps. Heres hoping.
I'm not dissapointed by the vc, I just hope he release a GOOD game next week, like SSB, or a surprise game, it's can be funny ^^
if Some poeple Success to make Project 64, it's possible to put anything on 64 on wii
Nintendo, what the hell is wrong with you?! Two VC less weeks? I want my Final Fantasy now dammit!
Oh come on! Yes we didn't get VC games the last 2 weeks, but the VC service is not coming to an end. Two big WiiWare titles came out today, which could be the reason why we didn't get any VC games. Or maybe we will get something big next week. Maybe Nintendo will release all of their VC games for the month on the first Monday of the month. I wouldn't mind that.
If the VC service was coming to an end, Nintendo would flood the VC with tons of games. They would never not release SSB, Super Mario Kart, Final Fantasy, etc. Why? Because those games equals profit. To those that think the VC is coming to an end; just try and not worry about it too much.
I'm sick of Nintendo. How hard can it be to release a single VC game?
Nintendo's quote:"We understand your concern about the lack of service on the VC as of late. Due to sales numbers being far greater recently on Wiiware than on Virtual Console, we have decided to steer in the direction of WiiWare. Also, we in America have NO plans to update the Internet Channel or the Nintendo Channel. We hope you understand”
Paraphrase: We only care about the money.
Hombrew Channel here I come!
This is turning out to be the same nightmare as us Europeans had a few months back!
Although I understand that statement Nintendo has said. They should still cater for the minority who do buy VC games too. I am shocked that the Wii Points card has risen in price here in the UK.
Hope you guys get something next week (hopefully SSB).
where was this nintendo quote?
@SuperSonic1990, #190: True that. Nintendo's let the money get to their heads and they don't care about their fans anymore. I mean, they can make uber **** like My Pokémon Ranch, and it has sold better than actual games. sigh
Is there a way to display the page without emoticons? They're making my eyes water....
@SuperSonic......is that a legit quote? All I can say is that I hope DSiWare starts getting a ton of games like WiiWare now is.
I hope they don't cancel the VC service. I am sick of seeing these classics being overshadowed by boring and uninteresting WiiWare games!
The quote came from here.
If you read it closely, though, you have to wonder if it REALLY came from a Nintendo rep at all. Something about it just doesn't seem right to me, relative to the majority of Nintendo rep replies I've seen. Especially the way the Internet/Nintendo Channel bit just seems slapped on there at the end.
I wrote a brief email last week about the VC. I did get a reply but it was not like that one. It just said there are a variety of factors that determine what VC games are released and you can expect 10 new releases each month. Of course they probably use a standard email that was typed up back in 2007. If that email is true we will find out in weeks to come. I noticed it was a topic on the IGN pocast. I'll have to listen to what the Nintendo team has to say.
@Kevin: At least give WiiWare a chance, geez. Have you played World of Goo? Mega Man 9? Toki Tori? The FFCC series? FF4: The After Years?
No, you clearly haven't.
wow 200 comments
Fake quote!
Oh darn, where on earth is Fatal Fury Special? Oh well, I better get Ninja Commando to pass the time until FFS comes to VC! Shouldn't be too long until it comes out on the VC!
Hey, wait, I know the guy that recieved the e-mail. This quote is by no means fake, much to my chagrin.
@202, Mickeymac
How's it not fake?
203 commits?????????? Wow.:0
