I really like the extra screen, I'm not sure what I would change bout the wii u pad except the batteries..
This. The GCN controller was amazing when it came out. The I got a Wavebird, and it made so much more sense to have a wireless controller, from that point on. Everyone knows that 1st party wireless controllers weren't really available besides the Wavebird, during 6th gen.
I do think the Wave bird is pretty outdated, though. I can stand these new controllers, including the CCP on Wii, so it's not that hard to mave past, IMO.
Also, these Double Player wireless controllers for NES were top-notch. They worked as long as you were in the same room as the receiver.
Probably won't happen in a million years (as nowadays they seem intent on defining themselves and their consoles by their new zany controllers and making the controller the main-event itself...), but personally I would like them to just go back to a simpler controller, because I just prefer that more streamlined approach to say, the Wii U, where every game has to be played with button controls and motion controls and touch screen controls and two screens (and different controllers for multiplayer) and is inevitably a confused, convoluted mess (or "innovative" as some will say!) and that is arguably turning people away and going against their own philosophy. Simple controls are always best imo. The games that have the best controls are the games where no one ever talks about the controls.
The gamepad is cool, but next-gen gaming doesn't mean we need a crazy new controller. I just want new games.
I like the Pro Controller. Analog triggers and motion sensing would help (sixaxis, gyro sensor, whatever), but it's fine the way it is now.
If you're going to bring it up, Dual Shock 4, the best controller I have ever used.........hands down (with the Xbox 360 and SNES in 2nd and 3rd).
As for the ultimate next-gen big N controller? Take the gamepad concept, make it quite a bit smaller, shrink the screen to the size of the bottom 3DS (non XL) screen size, make it touch so you can still use it for menus / maps.......have analog triggers. Have a slide bar on the bottom of the controller so you can automatically change screen brightness for the pad's screen. Keep the button placement / design more or less the same, outside of the triggers.
So, with a small one (ala bottom 3DS), your kinda making off-screen play impossiable, but your also make the end product much cheaper, and the controller smaller / more comfortable, which I would prefer ( L/R would be much more comfortable).
a conversible gamepad that can be turned into a common pro controller by people who hate fun!

The GamePad with an amazing battery (30 hours) and amazing transmission distance to the console (100 feet), plus somehow a seamless conversion/attachment to a nunchuk/wii remote configuration. And some of the GC colors and shoulder buttons.

Although I enjoy the gamepad a lot and the wii motes have their charm until the novelty wears off, I think it's crucial next generation of consoles (if there is one) that Nintendo keeps away from the Wii brand name as it's target market no longer exists and it seems to turn off most of the dedicated gamers who just want a traditional remote. An updated Gamecube controller would be great.
I actually really like the gamepad... Could be slightly more ergonomic but I just really really like the offscreen play feature.
Don't want anything even CLOSE to dual shock. I hate those controllers. Bad button and stick placement. Screen of DS4 is even more gimmicky, due to its small size. No off tv play? no screen please.
Haven't tried wii U procontroller, but GameCube controller is obviously awesome. Also, I still like wiimote+nunchuck for FPS, aiming and strategy (Pikmin, Batallion Wars).
I hope Nintendo sticks to the option of giving us CHOICE. GamePad, Wiimote+Nunchuck, Procontroller/Classic/GameCube is really the best of all worlds.
i dont get how people think the octogonal edges of the gamecube analog stick were limiting in any way. unless the game is poorly programmed to not take advantage of that extra 1mm of rounded space you get. i actually hate the perfectly rounded ones. at least with the octagons you could always get a perfect straight angle in any of the 8 standard directions, and its not exactly hard to move slightly out of that if you need to. its usually not a problem, but sometimes i find i have a hard time running straight with these damn perfect circle ones, especially if im laying at an angle and not sitting up straight. i always hated how xbox and ps controllers were like that.

so true... even the 3DS' Circle pad suffers with this problem

It's not a screen, just a touch pad.
Yeah that's what I meant really... I don't get the point, but maybe I'm just ignorant? Can you explain the use for it?
I guess for gesture control. Haven't used it myself.
maybe it'll be like PSmove and barely see any use once again I'm just fooling around don't get angry

Killzone has the best use for it thus far, think of it an invisible D-pad (besides the D-pad itself), but for instance, in a first person shooter, you swipe left and right on the touch pad, it selects weapons back and forth, you swipe up and down, an you can pick from grenade types, etc..........
So it's pretty much like having a few extra buttons, the touch pad itself registers any pick up with ease, so it gives you a few new controller options. I can see it being used to help inventory / menu intensive games, like on a Zelda type game, it would come in handy for sure.
The Dual Shock 4 is a stellar controller, the ergonomics are amazing, the only gimmick it has is the light on the back of the controller, which is, pretty much useless.
Okay I see.. While it seems useful for browsing scrolling through netflix and inventory, it also seems like something I could live without.
How would it work in Rayman Legends for instance? In the murphey levels, if you cant see where you are pressing / swiping?
But yeah DS4 does look like a big step up from sixaxis. I would still prefer the gamepad though. I think off-tv play is so great, and also the use of it in games, I do like the 2nd screen.
