@random_player The game my nieces liked & played the most was Mario Odyssey. My nieces didn't start to grasp navigating a 3d game until they were 6-ish. As far as I've seen, I think my nieces skewed more toward late bloomers with using a controller. I think it's possible your son will probably catch on to Mario Odyssey pretty quickly, granted you play with him and show him the ropes. I gladly played though Mario Odyssey three times with my nieces because it's so fun. (My nieces were 5, 8, and 11 years old when they first started playing the game).
Mario Kart 8 does have optional assist settings so a kid that doesn't know how to use a controller can still tag along. On the kart part selection page and in the pause menu, there is a menu to toggle a steering assist option, and an acceleration assist - these two assists will keep your kid on the track, or even finish the race for them if they don't know what to do. (although, when my youngest niece was 4-5 years old, she mainly liked to just keep picking characters(over and over) to see & hear the emote they have in the setup menu.)
If your son gets to a point where he can play on his own in a year or so, I recommend Lego City Undercover. It's an open world single player (it also lets you play 2player coop, if you want). It's kind of like a grand theft auto for kids without the mature stuff, with lots of missions, and you can take random cars and drive around. It's a great game, and it regularly goes on sale for $6 USD, which is a steal.
@random_player Yeah, the assists are rather genius for their inclusivity, allowing little ones in the family to play along.
Just be aware, if your kart ever steers funny, press pause to turn off whatever assist is left on. If steering assist was left on from a previous game, it won't let you steer off the track for the strategic stortcuts that are on virtually every track. And if motion steering (also in the assist menu) is turned ON without you knowing, it can make your kart steer funny. So, make sure it's off if you ever notice your kart turning without you touching the analog stick.
I pasted the video link so it plays at the part where they mention the assists.
@ZeldaFan83 Unfortunately my language is not supported. @WoomyNNYes Thanks for this info and your experience with your nieces. Seems like I might be underestimating the capabilities of a 6 year old. Wasn't aware about the assist settings in Mario Kart, so will likely grab that sooner than I thought.
What are some good city builder games on the Switch?
I've heard Cities: Skylines's port is terrible, so are there any good alternatives?
I have Islanders, but that's more of a puzzle game as opposed to a traditional city builder

@HankScorpio There are none that I'm aware of. Like Cities Skylines, Tropico 6 doesn't run all that well. Dorfromanik has been well received, but I haven't played it and it looks to be more of a puzzle game. However, Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists is a lowkey good city sim, if the sugary sweet aesthetic and slice-of-life aspect don't put you off.
I just beat the adventure mode on Mario Tennis and I am now currently looking for a new game to purchase. Love platformers, all rpgs, action-adventure and anything with an online multiplayer. Any recommendations?
@JuveLeo In case you haven't got them yet, Super Mario Odyssey and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury are both really good. I'll also give Sonic Mania, Celeste, Shovel Knight, and Hollow Knight solid recommendations. Cuphead is also really good, but that one has more bosses than platforming levels, and is really, really tough. For RPGs, I like the Xenoblade Chronicles series, and I know that Dragon Quest XI and Persona 5 Royal are huge favorites, as well. My favorite online games on the Switch are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Splatoon 3. Hope this helped.

Favorite game: Super Mario 3D World
AKA MarioVillager92. Ask if you want to be Switch friends with me, but I want to get to know you first. Thanks! ❤️
@MarioLover92 Mario Odyssey is definitely on my must have list. Most of what you mentioned, I've beaten, aside from Shovel Knight, Cuphead, Xenoblade Chronicles and Dragon Quest XI. Thank you for your recommendations. I'll definitely be adding them to my list and be looking more into them!
@Magician Unfortunately, I've never played any of the Monster Hunter series... am I missing out? Lol
@JuveLeo I think so. Hunter games were the rage in Japan for the longest time. It wasn't until Monster Hunter World where the series popularity (and hunter genre as a whole) exploded. It and other hunter-likes (God Eater, Soul Sacrifice, Dauntless, etc) have a nice rpg-like gear progression and online multiplayer co-op. And Monster Hunter Rise is easily the most new-player-friendly entry in the series.
@JuveLeo You're welcome! Yeah you're gonna love Super Mario Odyssey, I'd say it's an essential game to have for the Switch. Super Mario Bros. Wonder looks fantastic as well, though that game's not out just yet. I'm confident that it'll be awesome though, judging by its reveal trailer.

@MarioLover92 Yeah, I hear that alot and I've wanted it for a long time but the game always stays at a high price which is frustrating lol. I'll try and find a used copy for hopefully a reasonable price.
And I'm definitely getting Super Mario Bros. Wonder once it comes out. I've always loved Mario sidescrollers.
@Magician I might have to pick that up eventually. I've heard the name Monster Hunter for years but never really paid much attention to it. They seem to receive positive reviews for each game as well. Thank you for the recommendation!
@JuveLeoMonster Hunter Rise has a demo on Switch so I would suggest playing that before buying a game. When I played the demo I absolutely loved everything... except for the combat which is the majority of the game. I can understand how some people like it, but to me it kind of felt like 'bad boss rush, the game' but with an absolutely gorgeous backdrop. The demo shows enough that you'll either love the game or dislike it fairly quickly. I ended up getting Monster Hunter Stories to keep the world but change the combat, but that is a very different type of game.
As for Odyssey, it's 50% off right now which is essentially as cheap as you can ever get for a major Nintendo game. If you get a NintendoLife 5% off card you can technically combine the two and get slightly better than 50% off.
@FishyS Thank you for informing me. I was going to check gameplay videos on YouTube, but playing a demo is obviously the better choice. Thanks for the heads up. And Odyssey is 50 percent off where? The Eshop? I'm a big physical guy btw. I'll only purchase a digital version if there is no physical.
@JuveLeo hmm...as well as eShop it looks like it was briefly %50 off on Amazon but it apparently sold out unfortunately. It's %35% off at Gamestop but that's a more typical sale.
I am looking for a fitness game that my wife can use and enjoy but she isn't looking for anything too 'gamey' or punishing with timing, fail states, etc.
We have Switch Sports (which she enjoys), Fitness Boxing 2 (which I like but she struggles with due to the precise timing) and Jump Rope Challenge (go bunny, go!)
All signs point to Ring Fit Adventure as the one to get, but is there enough 'non-game' casual fitness stuff in it to warrant a purchase?
Dance games are also ruled out for timing and coordination reasons.
@Pedropierrepete Ring Fit's main draw is the story mode which takes you through a very light RPG game that is driven by your activity. It definitely has a good amount of "gamey" elements in that respect. But there is a lot of side content for generic running plus other exercises as far as I remember. I mostly focused on the story mode when I played, but I do remember there being a good amount of side content.

Currently playing:
Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition (Switch)
Balatro (PC)
No one with a platform is covering Gravity Circuit, so I'll keep yelling about it. It's Mischief Makers except Megaman. And it's an absolute treat.
I don't know why it's not getting any coverage.
