People are hyping it too much and bestowing specs on it that it probably won't have. Some actually believe it will have graphical power equivalent to the GameCube, which is absurd considering how horrible the battery life would be (especially if they add all the other rumored specs into it).
Chances are it'll be very close...GameBoy had NES graphics, GBA had SNES, the DS has N64. I highly doubt their next generation will stay the same with graphics, if Sony can do it with their PSP then Nintendo can and will most likely do it.

the way you have the option to switch between 3D and 2D shows that the games aren't built specifically for 3D so really the 3D wont be as impressive as it sounds.
the ability to switch is to promote the platform's versatliliy. it's not so that you can play the same game in 3D or 2D, though that will likely be an option for some titles. instead, many titles will be 3D specific and will only work with that function turned on, just like many Wii games won't work if you don't have, say, a classic controller plugged in. similarly, many titles will likely be 2D specific, and will require the 3D turned off. the feature is there so that developers have more freedom, and consumers have more variety. of all things you could criticize, the ability to switch between 2D and 3D modes is by far the least.

I don't see the point in Spenting more Money on the Same thing
But it's not the same thing! It's called NEXT-GEN. There's an article here saying that 3DS won't be the real name, and that kinda clues in that it might not be a DS. Not only that, but it might not even have two screens (or 3, if you thought that was what I was aiming at).
I'm pretty okay.

@destroyer360 it will have two screens (or at the very least, something to simulate 2 screens) because Nintendo allready said it would play all DS, and DSi specific games. By them saying that we can comfirm a few things. It will have 2 screens, at least one touch screen, 2 cameras (inner and outer), mic input, and at least 12 buttons (up, down, left right, a, b, x, y, l, r, start and select)
It sounds more like a novelty than a gaming system tbh.
That's exactly what people were saying about the DSi... but look! It's selling strong! 2.2 million units in North America alone
Heh, that's pretty much what people have been saying about everything regarding Nintendo for the past 7 years or so. Both the DS and the Wii were talked about as just being gimmicks that wouldn't catch on. Prior to the Wii, people were speaking as if Nintendo was making one last ditch effort, since they'd never be able to compete with Sony and Microsoft, and, well, we know how that turned out.
That's one of the things that has earned Nintendo a lot of loyalty. They come up with these ideas that sound just absolutely absurd, but they're usually able to pull it off. Personally, I'm just glad to see someone willing to innovate in the game industry.
Well its not another DS like lite or DSi, but the next gen system, that in itself is pretty exciting, though its the games that matter really, whether I get 3DS day one will depend on its launch titles, though probably only Zelda would make it an instant purchase for me.
Yeah good point. If it had the power to run a game like Ocarina Of Time and they actually give it a port, then I will actually sell my DSI XL which I'm getting later this year, to get one.
Wanna know something funny? The DS is powerful enough to run Ocarina of time

@Tattis: yeah... they haven't sold like "gimmicks." (see below) people will always complain about Ninty's next big thing and say it will never work... but it doesn't look like they're going anywhere.
