My copy of the New Art Academy came today, and it's brilliant! I am so pleased with all the new content. I had a quick look through the some of the new tools but there are so many that I thought I better go through the lessons first and see what they all do. Here is my first lesson.

I've been away on holiday for 3 weeks and was really hoping other people would share artwork while I was away. Am I the only person who picked this up?
Here are some of the other lessons.
I really like how they include a white pencil in the new version.
I hope other people get this soon. I'd love to see your work.

@Victoria Great work! I especially like your Venus, she's well-proportioned. I agree with you about NAA, it's like the first one except a hundred times better.
I made a few paintings in free mode, here they are : (Ref)
I realize it doesn't look like the model. :S It was an experiment that didn't go very well.
The last one is a photo of my 3DS screen because I made it for a lesson, so I couldn't save it to the SD card. If there is one thing I don't like about the game, it's the messed-up save system. But everything else is so good that I can forgive them.
@Waann - Those are brilliant! Even the one you took as a photo off the screen looks good. Now that you mention it, I can see the reflection of the screen, but otherwise, I thought you did it as more of an impressionism painting. I didn't realise you couldn't save your picture when making a lesson. That seems strange. But I don't find the save feature is messes up. Or is it just that you feel is messed up about it?
Don't you find the tools much easier to use? The paint never 'blobs' like it used to in the other versions. And it's nice having the 'rag' to clean up paint mistakes.
@Cipher - If you don't think you're good at painting and drawing, then I really recomend you get this. I think you'd learn a lot from it and you'd surprise yourself. I also didn't think I was any good but I'm quite proud of what I can do with the program.

@Victoria - Thanks! Well I just think that saving is unnecessarily complicated; even with regular paintings there are 3 different types of saves. For something that is primarily aimed at casual players, I just find it odd (of course it's explained in the manual, but most people won't read it ). Then again it's better than the retail version of the first one, in which you couldn't export your paintings at all. I'll check again, but I don't think I can save my picture X)
Yes, I love the tools too! I draw a lot (more than I paint) so I'm much more at ease with this one. It's easier to paint details now, too. I like that they added impasto, but it tends to pixelate a lot, which is a shame. For example, there is a lot of aliasing on my melon :
It's not that difficult to avoid (just add water ), but I have to be careful about it. It's a good idea, but not that well executed.
Anyway, it's really great. And the fix/dry feature is a good alternative to layers, I use it all the time.
Does anyone know how one shares lessons and sketches via spotpass? Is it only with those on your friend list?
Also, Victoria I've added you as a friend, please add me back.

I got this on launch day. Really great, it looks realistic and I suck so it must be really awesome for people that can actually draw.
One of my favorite things, is that you can mix your own paint.
I am Eldír, Lord of the Elves.
The untold legend, the Star in the night sky, tales of myth and legend of glory and honor. But you, are a friend and no matter what, I will protect you!
@Felix_ Sure, I'll add you. I've made one, but there's a step missing because of a mistake I made. I hoped I would be able to redraw that step, but it's impossible. I'll just have to translate the lesson (it's in French) but it should be quick.
Please correct me if I write something weird: English is not my native language. ;)

Thanks Felix. I'll add you. I'm glad the spot pass is only with people on your friends' list. I'm used to their swapnotes. I wouldn't like to get drawings from strangers. That would be sooo wrong!

Is there any point in having both Art Academy and Colors! 3D? I'm quite happy with Colors and all that it offers, but I wouldn't mind a taste of Art Academy, just not sure if it's worth having two drawing/painting applications for my 3DS.
@Waann Thank you!
I studied French at university for two years But a lesson in English would be great!
Have to say, I am loving New Art Academy
@Victoria. Thank you, and I agree with you about paintings by strangers. @Chris720, I feel that the two applications are very different, NAA helps you improve your skills. Colors!3d gives you the opportunity to make great 3D art.

@Victoria Well yeah, getting paintings by random strangers would be weird, but I wish there was a way to share and find custom lessons more easily. How cool would it be if we had a world network of home-made NAA tutorials? I'm not sure it would be good for business (they are selling add-on lessons after all), but it would be a compelling argument to buy the game for many people. @Chris720 They are both amazing, and pretty different. The tools in NAA are more realistic, so it doesn't have the same feel (it's much more intuitive, in my opinion). I like to alternate between the two, but not everyone will think it's useful. It's a little like having Painter and Photoshop ;D (or MyPaint and The GIMP, for their open-source equivalents).
