My problem with more Square Enix characters is how stingy they have been with Cloud. I'm going to be cautious about this one since the DQ licenses are all over the place, with the music alone being owned by its composer.
I'd rather have broader rulesets I'm guaranteed to have like in Smash 4 than a chance to have a specific ruleset here, but I'm glad they are dedicated to getting the most out of matchmaking.
My only other issue with the game now is with the UI, the character and stage selections are a mess. I know they are it's based on the order of series appearance… but that's really arbitrary when you think about it. Especially since characters from the same series that appeared in the same Smash title aren't even next to each other, like Marth and Roy.
Still an awesome game though. Really hope this has a long and strong scene.
@IHateTombs This is confirmed to be Level-5's last game for the 3DS, with PQ2 being Atlus's last game as well.
Square, Capcom, and Sega also have nothing planned for the device, despite being the biggest supporters.
Regardless if Nintendo plans to support the device, third party support is just about done.
Poor game selection and less than ideal emulation. PS classic could have blown the competition out of the water if they played the right cards, but that's not the case here.
I don't care for the game, but I hold no ill will towards Playtonic. This game's commercial success should lead to them developing more 3D platformers, which I'm down for.
@Yorumi I think the NES hate is overblown, and they should be a part of the service as a part of Nintendo's history. But let's face it, most of these games have sequels or successors that greatly improve on the concepts these games presented.
Why play a Metroid game with clunky controls and bland/repetitive world design when you could play Super Metroid or Zero Mission instead?
Wonder if the reason Sony dropped out on E3 2019 is similar to why Nintendo showed few new titles in 2016, where all the new games were coming out on a new platform. PS5 within two years?
It actually looks... okay. I mean, it looks like a Runner reskin, but it at least seems to provide the wacky Bubsy charm from the first game the Woolies Strike Back failed to bring.
Makes sense... from their perspective. Gamestop only gross a small fraction of new items, but they gross 100% of used items. Chances are that if you trade in your old Switch for a new switch, and they still end up selling the old Switch for $280, they ultimately made a profit.
It'll make more sense from the customer's perspective if this was for a new model, but alas we are not there yet.
We're clearly not getting Gamecube games at this point, so clearly another Gen 6 console as an alternative would be great.
My Dreamcast's disc laser is wearing out, it can play most of my library but I can't buy games in good faith that they'll work. Just add 4:3 support so I can play these games on an old CRT and we are golden.
The issue isn't why AT Games keeps making cheap products.
The issue is why the original software holders keep allowing them to put their games on the hardware.
On the 3DS topic, why should jumping from DQ8 to DQ11 be an issue? Just like Final Fantasy, each game is set in a different universe and there is no overarching plot. And since 10 was never localized, all that is skipped is 9... wait, that was a DS game that can be played on the 3DS anyways.
I can see why poor DQ 3DS sales being a reason to not localize the game, but this reason feels tacked on.
Definitely plan to import, and by that I mean I'll just download it. I'll be honest, I'm not 100% for a full action battle system. But most people seem happy with it so I guess that was a good choice on their part.
@ieatdragonz Reusing the name of the first game would just cause confusion, but I'm all for not using the number.
Probably should just call it Yokai Watch: Shadowside to tie in with the anime series... assuming that gets a dub.
@BulbasaurusRex "Then I just get another one and contact Nintendo to transfer my account." You... can't do that though. Even so, after January, what would transferring your account do? You wouldn't be able to redownload the games once the Wii Shop fully closes.
@SwitchForce I don't think anyone is questioning how Nintendo can upload every single game they have ever published onto the eShop, but they certainly have more than 36 games a year for a service.
Pokemon Snap and Star Fox 64 were added to the Wii U eShop just a month before the Switch's release and after the announcement of the cancellation of production for the console. Not to mention that there are titles like Secret of Mana and FFVI not on the Wii U eshop, but were easily obtained anyways for the SNES classic, so it's not like they are not willing to go through any legal hopes for some of the most popular third-party titles.
@KryptoniteKrunch For me, I like to see all the available options, with emulation being a last-resort.
The games I emulated before are either title never localized, or are not available digitally and are very expensive physically. If a game is expensive, but is in reason, then I might emulate it for a few hours to see if it's worth buying.
It also helps that the Switch is a very good candidate for VC. It's easily powerful enough to emulate anything up to the gamecube, it's portable, and it has a controller. If it was as simple as playing a game on my phone or on my computer screen, it's tedious to transfer the save files back and forth if I wanted to continue a game on my phone on the computer and vice versa.
I think disappointment in lack of VC isn't just that it's not available on other devices, but because the Switch is a really good device for it, and it's the worst time for Nintendo to simply stop supporting VC.
@Trajan I'm checking ebay as well, and yeah, it seems to be that expensive elsewhere. Game and case can be around $70, anything cheaper is still on bidding.
Thing is, it's mostly just Gamecube games that are this expensive. A lot of the popular PS2, Xbox, and even Dreamcast titles are normally cheaper. (For refrence, Jack and Daxter is less than $10, Halo 1 and 2 are about $10 each). Not saying games on those consoles can't be as expensive as GameCube games, but they are normally pretty obscure, while games like Melee sold really well and are definitely not short on supply.
I think this deserves an article of research itself because it's clearly more than the game's rarity that makes the prices higher. Perhaps Nintendo gamers value their games more, and believe they should be sold for more?
@I_Am_A_Geek The "Weird Site" is Amazon.
Super Mario Sunshine is over $60
Fire Emblem Path of Radiance is over $100
If you're paying less than $50 Twilight Princess, you don't even get the game's case.
But if you want Super Smash bros Melee, $50 isn't even going to get you the case.
Mario Party games range from $35-$50
Wind Waker is decently priced but is still at around $30.
These are popular or highly rated games that often come to people's mind as titles they want on the eshop.
So I'm wondering what weird shovelware titles you are looking up the price for?
@I_Am_A_Geek Because some popular Gamecube games are $50+, used. People want digital, where they would expect maybe $15 for each title and not get bankrupt just to play 15-20 year old games.
I think a subscription service is great, but only as an alternative. It's a good way for someone to try out a game, but Nintendo needs to have the option to actually own the game.
Nintendo's approach to resetting their retro library every darn console is ridiculous. The Wii had a very strong retro library with a lot of consoles, including ones that weren't Nintendo like Sega and Hudson. Wii U did reset the library, but there was at least access to the Wii's shop via emulation mode and it's own shop provided more consoles like the GBA, DS, and Wii.
The Wii's shop is now closing, and simultaneously closing easy legal access to dozens and dozens of games that haven't made it to the eshop, like anything from Square and a lot from Sega. And now hundreds of titles from the Wii U eshop aren't being transferred to the Switch.
If Nintendo can't keep the availability of their games consistent or even allow you to now own the games to begin with, their biggest enemy of their war against piracy are themselves.

Re: Video: New Yo-Kai Watch 3 Trailer Finally Gives Us A European Release Date
On one hand, it's odd that Europe gets this first.
