Re: Peter Molyneux Reveals His Favourite Zelda Title Of All Time

Bassman_Q

Completely agree that Twilight Princess was a great game and one of my favorites of the Zelda series, though my biggest gripe with it was the slow and dull wolf sections. Other than that, I feel like it was the most epic Zelda entry yet.

As for my favorite, I would have to side with Wind Waker, as that was the game that brought me into Zelda. Twilight Princess ties 3rd on my list of favorite Zelda games along with Link's Awakening.

Re: Review: Jet Force Gemini (Nintendo 64)

I remember playing this game with my brother many years ago when we were both in elementary school; good times testing out different weapons on the Tribals. Definitely one of my favorite N64 games, probably 3rd after Ocarina of Time and Banjo-Tooie, and would easily give a 9/10 to it. That being said, the score of 7 seems a bit harsh, as it wasn't THAT hard of a game. It was hard, sure, but not old-school-NES hard. As for the controls, I do recall there being an option to move about even when aiming; I think you used the C Buttons to move while aiming with R. Now that I think about it, the aiming system was very lefty-oriented, as you aimed and fired with the left hand and moved with the right hand. I think it was because of THIS game's controls that I had a hard time with modern "dual-stick" FPS controls.

Re: Review: Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale (3DS eShop)

Sounds almost like a less-heart-wrenching version of To The Moon, if anyone here has played that game. To The Moon also had lackluster gameplay, but its mysteries and its game world truly sucked the player in. If this game is anything like TTM (which it sounds like it is), then I would gladly give this game a download. However, I think I'll wait for a sale before I purchase this one. I already have a bunch of games on my plate right now (thanks a lot, Steam!), and I don't even have $8 on my account, let alone $5 for Shantae.

I did not qualify for Platinum this year, unfortunately...
HOWEVER, I have been meaning to do a 2nd playthrough of Link's Awakening sometime, and since I've been spoiled with the 3DS's Restore Point function (not to mention saving was a bit of a chore in the original cartridge version), I've decided to take that as a freebie. Perfect timing, as I just saved myself 6 bucks.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Fifteen

Bassman_Q

This weekend I'll be playing New Leaf, though I've somewhat slowed down with the game after playing it everyday for the past month. I'll also be working on Oracle of Seasons, since I hope to beat both that and Ages this summer. On top of that, I plan on finally purchasing Mighty Switch Force and possibly Acorns 3D Turbo since they're on sale right now.

Re: Link to the Past Sequel Officially Named The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds

Bassman_Q

I'm a bit on the fence for this one.... I wasn't a big fan of the original ALttP, and this looks VERY similar... however, this does look pretty good. I'm just worried I'll be sick of 2D Zelda by the time this comes out, with the Oracle games and my planned replay of Link's Awakening. I'd much prefer a full, 3D Zelda on 3DS, but I'll just hope that something like that comes down the line later on in the 3DS's life cycle.

Re: Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze Hopping To Wii U This Year

Bassman_Q

I love me some Donkey Kong action, and I'm happier with this announcement than the Super Mario 3D World reveal, but I have to say I was a bit disappointed with this as well. It looks great, but it also looks quite unoriginal compared to the previous installment. I'm hoping that Retro was working on something else at the same time.

Re: Intelligent Systems Isn't Done With Advance Wars Just Yet

Bassman_Q

Well, considering Dual Strike was THE SOLE REASON why I upgraded from GBA to a DS in the first place, I would snap up another Advance Wars in a heartbeat. I don't really care which story they choose to continue (light-hearted Andy campaign or more serious Wil campaign), as I enjoyed both very much and are among my favorite games on the DS. I kinda doubt they can top the quality and detail of Fire Emblem Awakening, though as that game has nearly blown my mind to the point of obsession.

Re: Talking Point: What Games Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue Ten

Bassman_Q

I hope to FINALLY finish Fire Emblem Awakening either tonight or tomorrow night. 80 hours in, I've been grinding all the parents to level 15 promoted so that I can give the children their best skills. Just have Brady and Nah to recruit children-wise, then I will push through the final two chapters (currently on Ch. 25).

After I beat Awakening, I think I'll return to Sacred Stones so I can do a second runthrough of that, taking different promotions for each character. I SERIOUSLY CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF FIRE EMBLEM!!! XD

Re: Review: NightSky (3DS eShop)

Bassman_Q

This is a beautifully written review, but after actually purchasing and playing it, I have to disagree and say I'm actually quite disappointed with the game. As someone else pointed out, it is nearly impossible to hear the music without headphones, and I never felt like I was truly immersed in the game. Over all, I felt the game was boring and dull and even a bit repetitive. I still haven't beat it, but at this point I feel like I'm just pushing myself to play it, so I probably never will. A 6/10 in my opinion.

Re: Review: Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge (Game Boy Advance)

Bassman_Q

I remember first seeing this in a game shop one day when I was about 8 years old. I was so surprised to see that Rare had actually made a new Banjo game for a Nintendo console, especially since my older brother had found out that Rare had been bought by Microsoft. Naturally, I begged my dad to buy it for me, since the Banjo series was one of my favorite game series when I was young. It was a pretty good game, though for years I never was able to find the area in Spiller's Harbor that gave you the Rainbow Wing ability, so I could never finish the game. To this day, I still haven't beat the game, though after reading this review I just might have to pick it up again.

Re: New Fire Emblem: Awakening DLC Details Battle For Attention

Bassman_Q

I don't really have a need for DLC atm, since I've already played 46 hours and still have about 7 more chapters to go til the end (I grind all my characters at once to keep them all around the same level). Not to mention I plan on playing a second playthrough with completely different romantic partners. I heard it makes it feel like a completely different game. I might get the Gold pack somewhere down the line, however.

Re: Hardware Classics: Nintendo DS Lite

Bassman_Q

This article makes me NOT want to sell my white DS Lite, haha. Although Ive spent hundreds of hours playing my DS Lite (mainly cuz of Animal Crossing, the two Advance Wars, Dragon Quest Rocket Slime, and Phantom Hourglass), I still love my DSi much more, mainly cuz I took better care of it (looks very close to new!) and it was able to play DSiWare games, which made the upgrade from the Lite worth it imo.

I love my red 3DS most, though.

Re: 3DS eShop Version Of Gunman Clive Outsells Android Edition

Bassman_Q

I'm glad that the game has gotten so popular, as it's such a good and addicting game. Before I bought Fire Emblem, it was my number 1 played software on my 3DS, and that's when I already had Super Mario 3D Land and Pushmo!

And for all you people who are on the fence about buying it right now because of a thick backlog, just buy it! The main story mode can be beat within an hour or even half an hour, and you can choose to play multiple playthroughs with different characters to extend its longevity.

Re: Square Enix Laments "Increasingly Difficult" Console Market

Bassman_Q

I'm pretty sure I heard a rumor that one of the original creators of the first Final Fantasy's was gonna be working on FF XV. If that happens, it should be good, as long they don't use poor design choices like in XIII and XIV.

I also think a remake of FF V and FF VI on 3DS are in order, and would boost profits, even if just by a little. Even more sorely needed is an HD FF VII, like many others have been saying.

Re: Fire Emblem: Awakening Cut Down By Shipping Delay

Bassman_Q

Just came back from a disappointing trip after school to my local gamestop. The guy at the counter said they may not get it til the 13th... The 13TH!!! That's NINE DAYS AWAY!!! I really hope it's only delayed til Friday (cuz I can't play games til Friday anyway).

Re: Nintendo Download: 31st January 2013 (North America)

Bassman_Q

I will be downloading Ika-chan...

... on my laptop PC! (seriously, being so short and with no new special features, I might as well get the freeware version, even if it lacks the comfort of a controller.)

Aside from that, I will be purchasing a retail copy of Fire Emblem from GameStop on Monday. Character art book Ftw!
