I really loved the first game. Primarily due to the exploration, systems and amazing OST.
I've played them all since then (although not 3's DLC yet).
X and 2 although maintaining the fun systems and exploration were totally all over the place and often quite cringe inducing to be honest.
If 3 hadn't been closer to the first game in tone I think I would have given up.
1, 3 and Torna are amazing. 2 and X less my jam.
To be honest, I've also never really vibed with the combat of this series. I've actually fallen asleep mid battle playing 2 and 3 several times. I'd much rather they either went further into turn based or action based than the MMO style cooldowns.
Glad to see a lot of people calling for Stop -motion / puppets. There must be room for a Thunderbirds esque Star Fox project to come full circle on the inspirations.
Really fascinated to see how this studio in particular evolves this gen. The scope of the Switch Xeno games has been awesome. I'm curious if they can maintain that with a generational advance in tech.
Potentially the biggest remaining omissions from the Gameboy service (oh wait other than Pokémon). Played DK 94 on the 3ds and was really impressed! I had a a handful of Picross games on the 3ds but I haven't played one on Switch since Murder by Numbers. I'll definitely have a go.
@PikminMarioKirby I'm assuming the gen 6 starters will just be available to catch as it is set in that region. Gen IV starters were all in Arceus as well just not as starters right?
@Tetsuro No way is that happening. Xbox is a recognisable and popular brand even if the console business is limping along somewhat. Xbox merch is all over the place. Every time I go into town I see (usually) kids with Xbox bags or clothes. It would be wild for Microsoft to ditch that.
Man this new Carmen Sandiego game just confuses me... I can handle that Carmen has switched sides or is pre heel turn but it just looks so different.
The footage is more interested in showing her grappling about then indicating what the actual puzzle solving gameplay is. I'd have been well up for a modernised edutainment mystery game but I just can't tell what this game is trying to be.
@Dee123 @obijuankanoobie Honestly? I think we don't get them because the Pokémon company/ Gamefreak are terrified of save states being exploited (trading?). The fact that they won't even allow you to back up save data to the cloud speaks volumes. I think the 3ds versions of the OG games had this functionality disabled but they didn't operate within an emulator framework like the NSO apps. They seem happy with the spinoffs being on NSO so it's not a rights thing.
Glad to hear it! I've been pretty concerned how under the radar this game has been considering the fate of the studio is wrapped up in it. Need Uchikoshi to have an environment to thrive, as I consider him one of the great gaming auteurs.
The one - two punch of this news and the gold coins sounds bad. I am however willing to be patient because I imagine there is some sort of NSO perk refresh that will be superseding the vouchers which will offer similar value or maybe more.
Or it could just be that Switch 2 games have separate vouchers for some reason (price?).
Its the only place I've played it, and probably my favourite game on the system. But he is the creator so if anyone has the right to say this it's him.
@Bobb I don't think that's the case. Seems like it's a more general LGBTQ+ positive representation. TBF I played through Xenoblade 3 recently and barely remember this, there were a LOT of characters in that game...
@Smithicus
Obviously the trans debate IS a political hot topic right now but I think we are at and odd point where just featuring a character from said minority group can be seen as a political statement.
I feel Nintendo's general philosophy is just to be welcoming to everyone without making particular song and dance over 'inclusivity initiatives' that wind some people up.
Additionally, seeing as this character exists in the previous version, I would have thought that any move other than just accurately translating the original intent would be more of a statement.
FYI not trying to call you out your opinion or anything, just discussing your take.
Think the console and dock look pretty slick and lush. Happy with an iterative update because Nintendo always delivers on the software side.
The video itself though... didn't add a lot. I can only really compare it to the OG Switch reveal and that was much better. Showed the console in real life settings and had half a dozen games in it. The mario kart footage didn't look notably different to me which is a bit problematic when that is all you show.
Excited for more and hoping we get a last Switch 1 direct in Feb to shore up the release schedule in the run up.
I assume the Diddy Kong cap is already widely available.
I think if the tops hadn't been fluffy/fleecy they would be hideous. Somehow that saves them for me. Agree that I wouldn't wear them outside the house though XD
Loved Prince of Persia the Lost Crown and Sparks of Hope was great so I'm not on the Ubashing train. Ubisoft really supported the Wii U out the gate and I think they made up half my library for a few years so this seems like an inevitability.
That said I can't think of a recent one of their games I'm chomping at the bit to play that I haven't.
@OldGamer999 Will be hearing no slander against Nintendo land thank you very much. I'd love a new one. I would also be frustrated if there wasn't a meaty new single player release to go with it though.
@AussieMcBucket Have you used your switch in tabletop mode? I've done it on a couple of occasions where it was situationally useful but far from my desired way to use my switch. I imagine this is a similar situation where they had ideas where it made sense but isn't going to be the default way to play.
@TheSaneInsanity I was surprised reading reviews, how many people were saying that they thought it was still too close to the old games in obtuseness. Changes like the one you mentioned and the fact that the 'think' command actually suggests what the next step is (most of the time) made the flow of this game so much better.
It's great to see Nintendo being so open minded and willing to resurrect niche dormant series.
@Kienda Agree largely with you. I'm very glad we are not getting games and footage leaked of the new console but I'm honestly not particularly bothered about product dimensions and physical attributes getting leaked. I honestly feel like we have done well to get to this point without more surfacing.
@JohnnyMind @Lightsiyd If these people are all game Directors I wouldn't have thought that was likely as that's what Kamiya does. Wouldn't suprise me if other Platinum vets did move over there but at this stage I would have thought artists and developers would be more likely...
Unless the new Clovers studio is going to start simultaneously working on multiple games which seems highly ambitious out the gate.
Remasters like Prime 2/3 seem like the sort of thing Nintendo would put out at the game awards.
If we don't see anything more of Prime 4 before the Switch 2 announcement that confirms to me it will be a cross platform release but I wouldn't expect it here.
I think Prince of Persia takes it for me so far. I believe it's the only 9 I gave out to a game released this year. From a 1st party perspective I think my vote actually goes to Emio. Although it's got flaws and is somewhat antiquated in design I found this was a more bold and surprising release from Nintendo than Echoes of Wisdom which was a great time but didn't land as well as I'd hoped.
I intend to pick up 1000x resist, Animal Well, Lorelei and maybe Unicorn Overlord from this year so they might retrospectively take my favourite slot Also looking forward to playing PM: TTYD and Dominus but I don't think I'd count them as contenders.
@Solomon_Rambling Interesting! Would you mind elaborating on what put you off Tooie?
I played Mario 64 and DK 64 back then and BK during the Wii era so have Nostalgia for the 3d platformers of the era but I had no prior attachment to Banjo Tooie and just played through for the first time and loved it!
Other than finding the 1st person bits really awkward I feel the game has held up really well.
@Yosher Whilst OG Pokémon potentially does have that power, those other games are fun filler announcements to keep people perceiving value in the NSO sub.
No one is going to buy a next gen console to play an emulated n64 game and it would be genuinely concerning if Nintendo had so little in the lineup that they held that back for it.
@Not_Soos Let me know if you do start something as I'll follow it and discuss there. Clearly you need a more fitting outlet for some of your thoughts than here. Sorry about your agoraphobia and OCD although clearly they have made you a very empathetic and introspective person, traits you can hopefully use for good.
I am terrified for this game. They've indicated that it is well over budget and is putting the future of the studio on the line but it doesn't seem to be generating much buzz. Hopefully XSeed's involvement will give the marketing a big boost.
I'll be there for Uchikoshi as he is my favourite auteur in gaming. Not as sold on Kodaka and Komatsuzaki but fingers crossed we get greatness from all of them.
@Vyacheslav333 Don't believe that has been the case since announcement?
@Not_Soos I've said before you are one of the users here I have the most time for. I find your inputs interesting and well articulated and although I don't always align with you, I get better insights into our conflicting opinions thanks to your honest writing. Good to see you are a fellow Rayman Legends champion to boot!
This is the DK game of my childhood! I have played it to death including all the post game stuff. I have yet to play DKC3 though... How similar are they for people who have?

These next 19 days are going to be such a drag in the lead up to the big blowout. Be nice if the Switch released before my early June birthday!
