It's already been quite an interesting week on the Nintendo front, and now to add to this, it's been discovered some new trademarks were recently registered by the video game giant in Australia.
As highlighted by Vooks, trademarks have been registered for the 2015 Wii U title Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush (Kirby and the Rainbow Curse) and 2015 3DS release Fullblox (also known as Stretchmo).
The source notes how the original trademarks for these games "still exist", so this may not just be a "simple renewal".
Of course, when it comes to video game trademarks, there is no guarantee the games featured in filings will necessarily be revived. It could just be business as usual for Nintendo as these trademarks have been around for about 10 years now, but if we hear any developments, we'll let you know.
Here are the descriptions of both games in case you need a reminder what they're about:
Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush: In this colourful platforming adventure, use the Wii U GamePad touch screen to draw rainbow ropes for Kirby to roll along, or to block obstacles and enemies, and look around each level carefully to uncover loads of Kirby collectibles, such as clay figurines and music tracks!
Fullbox: The newest entry in the series offers a brand new twist to the formula by adding extra directions of movement in which to push and pull: now you can grab hold of blocks not just from the front, but also the rear and both left and right sides, adding even more layers of complexity to the much-loved head-scratching fun.
Another surprise discovery this week was a Switch rating for Nintendo World Championships: NES Edition appearing on the ESRB. You can learn more about this in our previous story here on Nintendo Life:
Have you played the above-mentioned Kirby and Stretchmo game starring Mallo? Let us know in the comments.

The more Kirby the better.
This is just standard stuff, we’ll likely never see another Kirby game despite this.
‘Kirby and the rainbow curse’ on switch would make me very happy.
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is one of the few co-op games me and my best friend beat together. Great title. As for Pushmo, I really wish it can return it’s such a clever puzzler with a stellar art style.
I liked Rainbow Curse, but how would it work without a stylus? Yes, I know Switch styluses exist. I imported one myself.
Kirby will get a yearly game as usual, whether it's a remaster or small eShop spin-off.
There’s always a new Kirby on the way (thankfully)
Pushmo and Boxboy were a great 1-2 punch of puzzle-platforming action back on the 3DS. I really hope both of those series manage to avoid getting stuffed in the back of the Nintendo vault for the next few decades.
Oh yeah I read about rainbow curse a while ago and informed the forums I think
Sounds like direct is coming next week with all these leaks happening.
I doubt a Rainbow Curse port would happen on the Switch, doesn't seem like that game would work well without a second screen and a stylus.
Epic Yarn Switch would be mint
We get a Kirby game almost every year, wouldn’t entirely be surprised if this game made a return. I’d be really excited if this happened!
Rainbow Curse had the same issue as Star Fox Zero. You have to look at the gamepad so much you miss what's on the big screen.
These are just renewals. We're 10 fiscal years out. Nintendo renews well before stuff lapses. Besides, why Stretchmo and not standard Pushmo?
How can Kirby return when he hasn't left since the DS days?

Booyah!
Kirby and the Rainbow Curse is an underrated game.
When I read mallow I thought:
@Zeebor15 Yeah, people were saying the same thing last year about Kirby Triple Deluxe. Nothing ever happens with these trademark renewals so whats the point in talking about them?
If Nintendo really is focusing all their resources on "Switch 2" right now, just give us ports of all the Wii U games that are still missing and I think most people will be relatively content--Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, Pushmo World, Xenoblade X, Yoshi's Woolly World, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess HD... easy peasy. Keep expanding the NSO library and maybe throw in a couple more remasters for this year like Metroid Prime 2 and 3 and Donkey Kong Country Returns Deluxe, and you've already gotten a pretty solid rest of the year.
I smell a Nintendo Direct a-brewin', hopefully no later than June. Between this and the recent ESRB leak for the Nintendo World Championship game, it seems like Nintendo is bracing for several upcoming announcements.
Worst kirby game in my opinion, 🫤
Pls bring back pushmo, I need this 3ds game era kept alive. I still hope for a new dillon game despite the company closure
Yikes, ANOTHER Kirby (Even as a remaster..)? C'mon now, we haven't had another Donkey Kong game since Tropical Freeze Funky Edition and that was six years ago now..
Rainbow Curse, yes finally.. Say hello to the closet, Wii U.
Kirby And The Rainbow Curse was really good. A game like this is always welcome.
@Uncle_Franklin one of the most underrated out there. And seeing it on Oled is a dream. I loved the gamepad but not for its lcd panel. It was painful to have to look away from the TV to view this game’s fringed-print detail aesthetics on that screen. On the plus side is the resistive touch, that remains superior
@Maubari I'm gonna be real with you, even if there wasn't any Kirby games coming this year you still wouldn't be getting a DK game because unlike Kirby there aren't any developers who could be making a DK game right now
@Beanbon @Zeebor15 did you read the article? it says right there that the original trademarks still exist, so this isn't just for the purpose of renewing the trademarks
not saying anything will come out of it but it's a much bigger possibility than Triple Deluxe, which was really only renewed because the original trademark was expiring
@Bolt_Strike it could be handheld only or have a gyro pointer when docked, it's not a perfect workaround but it could work
I never played Rainbow Curse but I did play Canvas Curse and didn't really like it so I'm not sure I would enjoy the follow-up, it looks very pretty though and I wouldn't be opposed to trying it out
Pushmo on the other hand I would be very excited if it came to Switch, either a new one or a collection of older ones
Mario Party, Ring Fit Adventure, and 1-2 Switch pretty much can't be played handheld, so don't see why they couldn't release a game that essentailly can't be played docked.
@_Figo_ Yeah, no, I refuse to believe that to be true. Nintendo has ALOT of studios; surely one of them could either make a new one or remaster the original trilogy... But alas, they don't seem to care about the franchise that made them big and important to begin with, but that's not surprising: Sony and Microsoft are the same way.
At the very least, Nintendo should be able to put DK64 or Diddy Kong Racing on NSO, but they're too lazy to even do that.. Instead, we get obscure titles that nobody cares about.
The Rainbow Curse was the first Kirby game I ever played, and it was really good, very underrated.
Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush/Curse is great so I'd love to see it coming to Switch and/or its successor although I question how you'd play it docked, maybe they'll make it exclusively available in handheld mode as some have already mentioned.
I have unfortunately never played any Pushmo game yet so I'd love to see Fullblox/Stretchmo even more!
AS IF we are going to live in a universe where Kirby Rainbow Curse is ported to Switch before ANY Star Fox game arrives on the system.
And I like this Kirby game, but seriously, isn't that nearly into double figures on Kirby now whilst Star Fox is on ZERO games and even Donkey Kong remains on ZERO new games!
With all this and the Nintendo World Championships NES Edition leak, I feel like these are going to be announcements for next month's Direct.
I didn't mind Kirby and the Rainbow Paintbrush, but if they could make it work with normal controls that would be a massive improvement.
@Uncle_Franklin they already kind of did. Dr. Kawashima's Brain Training for Nintendo Switch is mostly played in Handheld Mode. TV Mode is limited to the multi-player mode, which can also be played in Tabletop Mode.
Having a Touch! Kirby game being Handheld-only doesn't sound farfetched.
These may just be trademark renewals, but I'd really like to see the Pushmo/Pullblox series return. Fun puzzle games, at least the ones I've played (Pushmo and Stretchmo). I still have Pushmo World backlogged on Wii U after buying it last minute before the eShop shutdown.
Oh my god, Rainbow Curse was about 10 years ago? I bought that during my first relationship. Now I'm in an actually healthy one and I've grown immensely as a person along the way. Ahhhhh
Would love to see Pullblox brought back. I don’t really know how to evolve the core puzzle element more, but I’d love to see it worked into a puzzle-platform adventure series with more of a world and plot.
I really do miss that era of Nintendo experimenting with smaller download games on the eShop. We got so many great characters from it that have been left behind recently.
Any old pushmo re-release, remake, original new game would be the best thing that could happen to my switch!
I don't know how Rainbow Cruse would work on Switch though
Even though I'd prefer a new Pushmo game, I'd be happy to see Nintendo acknowledge the franchise again.
@HammerGalladeBro you can leave the office for 6 months and still yell "I HAVE RETURNED" when you enter the door, I think of it the same way.
Yay PUSHMO! I WANT THIS!
Always a new Kirby game is very welcomed, thanks to Kirby's I also stay on Nintendo platforms...unfortunately my wallet could be shaking at the moment.
Loved Rainbow Curse, for a second I thought about how it would play with joycon gyro controls, using one like your "paintbrush". But of course you're not only drawing the ropes for Kirby, but also tapping on him precisely the whole game.
I think the resistive touch screen on the WiiU is too central to that game's charm.
File Patents doesn't include any releases upcoming but to secure IP rights when the plans fall into place. All this does is prevent Copyright Protecton and that is all.
@Croctopus There are multiple ways this could work. In TV mode players could use the joy cons like they do in world of Goo, it Tabletop mode - same. Handheld mode would work with any capacitive stylus, these are very easy to find at almost any store that sells electronics, or they would include one in a physical version akin to Brain Age for the Switch, or if they really want to go nuts in Handheld mode they could use a stylus like the one for Colors Live - doubt they would go that route though. There is even a nintendo branded capacitive stylus https://www.amazon.com/Nintendo-Switch-Touch-Pen-Japan/dp/B07YL4KGWZ/ref=asc_df_B07YL4KGWZ?tag=bngsmtphsnus-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=80333185695337&hvnetw=s&hvqmt=e&hvbmt=be&hvdev=m&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=&hvtargid=pla-4583932714687469&psc=1
