Update: [Mon 6th Nov, 2023 14:15 GMT]: Nintendo has officially confirmed the new Black Friday Smash Bros. Switch OLED bundle for $349.9, as detailed in our original story below.
As you can see from the official shots below, it is a standard OLED console and dock with the Smash Bros. Joy-Con from the 'regular' Smash Bros. Switch bundle. It will hit stores on 19th November in the US. Here's the official blurb:
Starting Nov. 19, select retailers and the My Nintendo Store will offer the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model system + Super Smash Bros. Ultimate (Full Game Download) + 3 Month Nintendo Switch Online Individual Membership bundle at a suggested retail price of just $349.99 ($67.98 in savings). With exclusive Joy-Con controllers featuring a design inspired by the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game, this bundle delivers a great value for anyone looking to play at home or on the go with a vibrant OLED screen, while battling it out with Mario and a huge selection of other gaming icons.
Nintendo also announced a new Super Mario Party game and Joy-Con bundle, too.
Original Story: [Mon 6th Nov, 2023 10:00 GMT]: Just last week Nintendo revealed perhaps the least surprising Switch OLED bundle for the holiday season which packs in a digital copy of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and thus continues the deal that we have seen for many years now. But, according to an image that is doing the rounds on Twitter, it looks like a different bundle might be on the horizon.
A Super Smash Bros. Ultimate OLED bundle was recently posted online by the collector Twitter account @DisTrackers (and later shared by @Wario64), which seems to contain an OLED model Switch (with the Smash-logo Joy-Con), a digital copy of Ultimate and a three-month subscription to Nintendo Switch Online.
The original post states that this is coming to Walmart, though, remember, nothing has been officially confirmed by Nintendo at the time of writing.
It makes a lot of sense for Nintendo to provide this alternative bundle offer in time for the holidays and may provide a pretty attractive prospect to those who are still looking to pick up an OLED (and Ultimate) as the console surely enters the later part of its life cycle. It's also nice to see the Smash Joy-Con return, even if the sexy Smash Ultimate dock doesn't come back with them...
As we say, Nintendo has only confirmed the Mario Kart 8 Deluxe OLED bundle at the time of writing, but this makes enough sense that we can see it being the real deal. We'll have to hold out for an official announcement to get any idea of release dates and prices, mind you.
Would you pick up this Smash Ultimate bundle? Do you reckon it's the real deal? Let us know in the comments.

If the special designed dock was also included I might have double dipped on the OLED. Now it's a hard pass.
Gotta get rid as much of them as they can to make room for the next console. 😉
Not spending another dime on another current gen NSW…waiting for the next gen.
@Erigen Indeed, with all the "special editions" and bundles popping up the last year.. You can clearly tell they are trying to clear stock of the Switch.
Meaning a successor is coming sooner rather than later.
Trying for that last push to get the console to be the best selling ever.
Looks nice but İ have seen much more better looking Switch Oled bundle. Splatoon 3 and the Tears of the kingdom Switch Oled is so awesome.
I still dream of a physical release with all of the DLC on it.
Everything, all the fighters, stages, and Mii costumes.
Probably an absolute licensing nightmare though.
"But Sir, the Smash Bros. special edition dock featured bespoke artwork that might not match the OLED dock's dimensions"
"So? We'll just throw in a plain black dock instead - who gives a ****!?!"
Smash Ultimate has been absent for 2 years so maybe another sign of Fighters Pass 3 being announced at the Game Awards?
Certainly does feel like a last hoorah for the current SKU; a little bit of garnishing on top to push for the Holiday season.
They are pulling everything out to push the switch sales. I think around March will be the first time we will hear something about the Switch 2 from Nintendo. Not before that. Sales are still going strong.
@Grumblevolcano
Please let that be true. Lol.
No dock =no go for me
Joy-con themed Smash controllers
Nintendo:let see everything, to make Nintendo Switch sell 163 milions consoles, up to june 2024, making Switch the best selling console of all time, just 14+9+9 milions consoles
But where’s the Hanshin Tigers Switch at?
Pretty underwhelming joycon/dock design. I would've liked the reverse colors on the joycon, and to just do nothing at all with the dock beyond turning it black is boring.
And yet, there's still complete edition with all DLC fighters and stages on physical
So far there hasn't been a Switch OLED design that made me regret picking the Splatoon 3 design. The Joy-Con here are nice, but not as flashy as Splatoon 3s, and the dock doesn't have any special design to it, it's just a regular dock for the OLED.
Re-releasing the GC controllers would have been a nice surprise, but probably too much to hope for. Hopefully the Switch 2 has GC via NSO and they release wireless GC controllers.
@KayFiOS the Splatoon 3 OLED is gorgeous
@DAHstroy @KayFiOS Heck yeah, I have the Splatoon 3 one as well and it's such a good looking device, including the dock. Best looking Switch model.
It's a great deal for people who don't own a Switch, but for the love of goodness, all these digital downloads with physical-themed products that Nintendo announced over the last few days are really annoying.
@Axecon They are all doing that. With reason, you don't have to develop new packaging to also include the game. A controller swap is very simple to do before packaging.
Find it very lazy that Nintendo does not seem to put much effort into their special editions consoles. They just slap a fancy design console box without adding anything different to the console or joy cons. it would be great if they created something special similar to the Switch OLED Zelda, Splatoon 3, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet edition. Also, they could offer special edition Joy cons instead of the plain ordinary colours they usually provide.
@Kekshook
I think you are overdramatizing things. Yes, Nintendo is doing all these bundles to clear stock for the upcoming Switch successor next year, but that doesn't means the Switch will be discontinued anytime soon.
This one I don't quite understand. I think it's a great deal for anyone who doesn't own Smash and is also looking to buy a Switch; but my guess is that most people looking to get into the Switch at this point, is a casual gamer (not always! but in general). My bet is that the Mario games would sell better then Smash. If I were Nintendo, I would do a combo of Nintendo Switch Sports and Mario Kart and watch this thing print money. But that's just me. I would target casual people who don't own the Switch at this point in it's lifetime, not Smash.
Not that I can afford it by Black Friday, but I'm not planning to be an early adopter of the Switch successor. So if this continues to be available by July next year, I'll get it.
It would be the second Switch I'd buy. I have the game but I could sell the code while keeping the code card and throw in the NSO one as a bonus for the buyer.
Looks nice. I always thought the OG dock was too busy
If I was going to buy another, it'd be the red Mario edition. It's plain but it's so beautiful!!
I feel like considering I haven't bought a new Switch since I buy the original one in 2017 I should just wait for whatever the next console is at this point.
@Kekshook Most generations have a substantial cross over period so expect the Switch to live on at least a year beyond the Switch 2 release. PS4 had a good continued run after the PS5 came out.
Why isn't this a Smash Bros. Ultimate Bundle with a GameCube controller? Such a missed oppertunity.
nintendo would sell more switch consoles if they reduced the price..
Didn't want, much less need, a new OLED Switch, as my TOTK-themed one works just fine, but now I want this even less.
Seriously, the only thing that's SSBU-themed about the hardware is the Joy-Cons, and those were part of the original SSBU bundle, and can be found online elsewhere. Not only that, I already have SSBU physically, so I don't need it digitally.
Plus, come Black Friday/Cyber Monday, I'm going to be spending over $4000 for a custom-built MacBook Pro. So this is going to be a hard pass for me.
@ShonenJump121 I also have my original model, bought on launch day, but the fan in it was dying, so I bought the TOTK-themed OLED Switch to replace it. I was frankly lucky that Nintendo allowed in-store preorders for it instead of online-only, otherwise I would have been out of luck due to the scalpers.
I keep meaning to send my original model in to Nintendo to fix or replace the fan (and at this point, probably the battery as well, since it's been over six months since I last charged it), but I keep forgetting.
@AstroTheGamosian I'm surprised how well mine has held up. Sure, it has a few scratches but the only problem I've really had is Joycon drift like many people.
I sent mine to Nintendo though and they fixed it. Zelda is one of my fav franchises, alongside Metroid and Fire Emblem so the only one I was tempted by was the TOTK OLED.
These are the types of systems that people will be paying ridiculous amounts for in 20 years time. If you can afford one, get one and stick it in the closet
Yeah this particular bundle screams "clearing stock to make way for successor". Willing to bet they had leftovers of the Smash Joy-Con from the original bundle.
@Kekshook nothing more exciting than a Nintendo hardware launch day 😀
hmm too late, if you wanna sell more, drop the damn price, it's a disgrace to ask for so much for an old console that barely has the power to run zelda.
all these bundles just tells me Nintendo might not be on track to hitting their hardware sales target and are throwing everything out there to get to it
@SwagaliciousJohnson
Does Nintendo even sell GameCube controllers in any official capacity?
Awesome bundle. A lot of people assuming Switch NG is coming "soon" are totally wrong. Next console will launch 2024, this might be the last big Christmas push the Switch might have, but, there's no way Switch NG will launch next year.
yeah a new one is one the way. clearly
@Doom-Max even those (which I own since I'm a sucker) are nothing compared to the awesome New 3DS options. The faceplates on the N3DS and some of the designs on the 3DSXL like SNES edition, and even though I didn't like the 2DSXL much it had some heavily customised versions with new shaped bodies like the Pikachu one with the nose bump, and the Pokeball one with the button.
Unique, intentional designs that had proper R&D and manufacturing go into them instead of lazy recolours.
@johnedwin
They definitely could, but considering the staggering rise of inflation over the Switch's lifetime, $299.99 USD is still a great value. Consider how Microsoft and Sony have INCREASED their prices in recent years...
HENSHIN-A-GO-GO-BABY!
Are these bundles still a definite sign of the Switch 2 right around the corner, or did that theory not pan out?
@Coalescence to me it looks like they’re trying to get rid of as much switch stuff as possible. Honestly, I think they’re preparing for a new console.
Woah! I want a joycon with a white line on it!!!!!
One of the best games on the Switch, so uh I guess that's great for anyone who hasn't already bought a Switch.
Smash BrOLED confirmed!
This is a disappointment for SSBU fans... I just picked up the Splatoon 3 Oled, which looks awesome and makes this look even worse than it already does by comparison.
@nimnio I know it doesn’t really make all that much sense… I just want a new console. 😅
How utterly underwhelming. The awesome themed dock was the selling point of the previous bundle, and without that (or a physical copy of the game), the most appealing thing about this bundle is the box (ironically enough), which is hardly reason to invest in a bundle.

Same, same. I don't care if it gets marked up to a borderline absurd degree, I'll happily grab it. All DLC + updates. Likewise of virtually any other Nintendo game that has paid DLC.

They re-released GameCube controllers alongside the Wii U and Switch iterations of Smash, albeit in relatively limited quantities.

I'm already doing that now. shifty eyes
@ShonenJump121 The issue for me really only started earlier this year (or late last year; I forget the exact timing). I noticed it while playing one of the Splatfests.
The fan started making a high-pitched whining noise. It would still do so when I took a can of compressed air to the vents to try and blow out any dust, dirt, or debris.
I would have fixed it myself, but the screw heads on the system appeared to already be stripped, so there was no way for me to open it up myself. So I have no choice but to send it in to Nintendo for repair.
GameStop did try to sell me a Splatoon 3-themed OLED Switch when I told them about my issues, but I was more set on the TOTK-themed one. The only reason why I bought it was out of necessity, though. I prefer to play in Docked Mode, so I really had no need for the OLED feature. It was just coincidence that the TOTK-themed one was coming out, so I went for that.
And I know what you mean about the Joy-Con drift. Mine started drifting about a year in. I fixed those myself by putting in new joysticks that I ordered off of Amazon (although I did have to cause some minor cosmetic damage to the casing of one, using a Dremel tool, due to the screw head also being stripped).
While I have acquired other Joy-Cons, namely the Skyward Sword HD Joy-Cons and the Joy-Cons that came with the TOTK OLED Switch, I refuse to use them. I will either use the Joy-Cons from my original Switch (which don't seem to have any issues, even years later), or the Switch Pro Controller.
But even the Pro Controller has recently shown signs of drift, but it appeared to be due to an accumulation of dirt; rubbing alcohol and a Q-Tip worked wonders.
And I totally agree on Zelda and Metroid; they're in my Top 3 favorite Nintendo franchises. Not that big a fan of Fire Emblem, but I am trying to get into the series. I'm more into Star Fox and Super Smash Bros. alongside Zelda and Metroid; they and Mario become part of my Top 5.
No physical game though so not thanks
I still have yet to buy an OLED Switch. I guess the main reason is that I only ever play my Switch while it is in the dock. I very rarely actually carry mine around with me, so the OLED version never really offered me a reason to upgrade.
