Sonic Frontiers is out this week and takes the series to new heights with "open-zone" platforming that we've never seen before in a Sonic the Hedgehog video game.
The video game voice of Sonic, Roger Craig Smith, has now taken to social media to thank fans for their support in a brief message:
"Glad it's being received well and enjoyed! Much appreciate the sharing of kind, supportive words, gang. Wishing you happy gaming!"
The voice actress of Sage, Ryan Bartley, has also chimed in thanking Sega and Sonic the Hedgehog, and so did Mike Pollock as the voice of Dr. Eggman.
Ryan Bartley: "Thank you @SEGA and @sonic_hedgehog. Honored to be joining this legendary cast and franchise as Sage in Sonic Frontiers. Happy release day to all! Time for you to meet her…"
Mike Pollock: "*Yeah*, we did! Thank *you* for playing!"

They did a really good job on this game, they deserve all the love & support. Please look at the Metacritic user scores (especially ps5) before commenting, and remember that Sonic fans are very vocal about the series when they don’t like the direction.
It’s different and takes getting used to, but I don’t hate it, the opposite in fact, I really like it, and it is his first attempt at it to boot, so it will only improve from here, great job!
I avoided so much news about this game that I didn't even know I would need to get used to a new voice for Sonic. It caught me off guard to be honest. After hearing "puberty-sonic" for most of my life, he suddenly sounds like a full-grown adult.
I'll sink more time into the game and get over it
Thing is the thing I like least about the game is Sonic’s voice, it’s way too deep. The game itself is really good. Best Sonic game I’ve played since adventures
I'm about 6 hours in (on PS5) and it's the best 3D Sonic game I've played for a long time, really takes me back to those Adventure style games and is certainly the foundations upon which future titles should be built
@Sequel Never thought I would be saying, sonic has found his style!
Fantastic game so far. Picked it up yesterday after work and played for 4 hours. Couldn't put it down. This is basically Sonic Legends Arceus. It's been a great year for sandbox games.
@Not_Soos Great the hear you liked it! You were really iffy about it the other day, so it’s great that you enjoy it.
I would compare it to legends as well, it has flaws, it’s not perfect, but it’s a breath of fresh air and gets more right then wrong, plus it’s just plain fun!
This is sitting there awaiting for me to complete Bayo 3 as its next on my list. So far not many bad reviews, so very hopeful

Put 5 hours into it yesterday, and loving every second! The physics and battling take a little getting used to, but when they click, it's a blast. I've been wanting a full open-environment Sonic game since the Zelda DLC on Lost World. So far this is scratching that itch very well!
@Richardwebb They didn’t get a review copy, so they have to play it around the same time as us, the review is in progress.
I need dlc for this game!

So far I don't appreciate this game. After 2 hours I'm disappointed. But maybe it gets better, I don't believe it.
@Nintendo4Sonic If your not enjoying it by the time you have beaten the first boss and gotten the basic upgrades, I can’t say your going to enjoy the rest as the gameplay loop is pretty much the same every island.
@Snatcher yay, in that case it's a really weak Sonic game for me.
Short auto run stages hidden in a boring open world with 1000 rails in it, rain and bad music.
@Nintendo4Sonic A shame you didn’t like it. I really enjoy it tho, wish you did too.
Cleary doesn’t appeal to everyone, but it sounds like it’s gelling with a lot of people!
@Pandy-the-Panda Eh, no thanks. User scores can be extremely bias. Especially for games they love/hate.
Never cared for Sonic and don’t think this game will entice me enough to try it out. Seems like theyll just stick sonic in any world they create that looks like it was meant for a different game. He looks like he’s in Xenoblade now.
Aside from the not-so-great cutscenes and Sonic's abnormally deep voice, the game's great! Very addictive and has a BANGING OST.

@Snatcher I'm really sad, believe me. But I will go on, maybe it gets better.
Game is decent and while I like the open zones I do wish there are more of it with different variety with its own theme and explorable areas. Basically all you do is run, collect stuff, solve puzzle, and use melee attack on titans in the open fields. There are no explorable caves or ruins, no ancient city to reveal, no underwater section so we could see Sonic drowns, it's all just straight open field.
The game does had a weather day and night cycle in the game but since there are no wild life (except birds) in the game it makes no differences in what type of enemies you'll encounter. Almost all the cyber space levels are garbage and are just rehash levels from previous games, the Need For Speed level is the only interesting one. Overall I enjoy it but probably won't return for a second playthrough.
I said I was going to start God of War first but since it came out a day earlier I decided to fire it up and give it a shot.
I'm absolutely hooked! Got about 10 hours clocked in and I'm really enjoying it! Reminds me of like an N64 era collectathon platformer only your playing as Sonic obviously. Sure it's a bit rough around the edges but it's got it where it counts so I'm happy!
Not spoiling it but one of the earlier boss encounters...jaw dropping is the only way to to describe it!
After a decade of not really liking Roger Craig Smith as Sonic, I think he's really come into his own in this game. Really nice to see him going from snarky one-liners to a more mature Sonic - it's made me realise that I never really disliked the VA himself, but moreso the script and direction at the time.
@Nintendo4Sonic Maybe you will enjoy the story! Because I have enjoyed it so far, and it has made me go out of my way just to do the side conversations, there interesting.
@Nintendo4Sonic alright, I respect your opinions but the music is not bad. That opinion is blatantly incorrect.
I've listened to the English, German and French voices up until not. The French one is really good. The English and German one....muh not a fan.
I do like how Roger handles Sonic's voice here, it fits with the tone the game is going for. Arguably the best part is when Sonic have the heart-to-heart conversations with Amy, Knuckles and Tails.
