Surprise! You might have forgotten that Alan Wake Remastered was quietly announced for the Switch earlier this year, but now you know for sure, because it's out right now.
Alan Wake originally launched as a console exclusive on the Xbox 360 back in May 2010 from developer Remedy Entertainment. After teaming up with publisher Epic Games, Remedy then launched a remastered version of the game in 2021 with revamped visuals and improved performance.
The title now forms the basis of what the studio calls the 'Remedy Connected Universe', with 2019's Control making several references to Alan Wake, including the crossover expansion, AWE. Alan Wake II is also on the way, but is currently only targeted for launch on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
Alan Wake Remastered for the Switch contains the main game itself along with the two story expansions, 'The Signal' and 'The Writer'. Alan Wake's American Nightmare is a standalone spin-off title and won't be included in this release.
Alan Wake Remastered is out now on the Switch eShop for $29.99 USD / €29.99 / £24.99. Players can currently get a launch discount of 20% off the list price.

Had no idea this was coming... Will have to snatch it up at some point
Switch is like the best kept secret ever. Folks expect it to be a nintendo only system but then you list out all the other games it has and you realize how much of a punch it packs. Despite its high sales many don’t realize just how diverse the library is on Switch until they do some deep diving.
Edited for clarity.
I was searching for news on the Switch version just a few hours ago and came up empty handed. Now it quietly launched just a few minutes ago!? Isn't that spooky. I am guessing there will be no physical release?
Just picked it up for 26 bucks total price
Awesome!
How does it run?
What is the full file size?
@Ryu_Niiyama I know what you mean and I agree but also still laughed at “Switch is the best kept secret ever” when it’s like the 4th best selling console in world history
@Guitario this isn’t a review this is a affiliate link post get your head in the game
@Zach777 this is a good question - nintendo dot com doesn’t even have a page up for it yet
Played it way back in 2010. Still my favorite Remedy game and I'd have it in my top 10 favorite 360 games, and that console was no slouch library wise.
@zach777 12.9 gigs
What a horrible night for a curse. I'll be deep in astalon, mario + rabbids 2, and bayo3. Where will I find time for this?
Im interested but too many games coming out this month plus sonic frontiers in a couple weeks. maybe beginning of next year ill get a chance to dip in here. it does look pretty good though
Might pick it up at some point. I played the 360 version for the first time last year just before they removed it from Gamepass, right before the remaster was announced, so it's still pretty fresh for me for the time being, but I did enjoy it.
@Pazuzumas
Welp, here’s hoping for a physical edition someday!
@Ryu_Niiyama I recently looked at the top 35, 50, and 100 games on PlayStation 4 and man, the Switch is absolutely killing it. Literally the only games not on Switch at the Take Two games, EA games, and first/second party games. Tomb Raider and Batman also aren’t on Switch but feel they are only a matter of time.
What type of game is it? I’ve heard the name but know nothing about it.
Torch? Oh, torch as in flashlight
@NintendoWife Third person shooter but with a heavy narrative focus.
Holy moly its not in the cloud like Control?!
Just bought it
But I'm at work and can't download. Can anyone confirm whether it has gyro aiming?
@NintendoWife the best Stephen King novels all rolled into the form of an interactive TV series with a heavy metanarrative.
Imagine if Misery and The Mist and Bag of Bones were happening concurrently and the writer from Misery was rewriting the narrative even as he was part of it.
@Zach777 @SwagaliciousJohnson : I'm optimistic that there will be one, particularly if the game is under 16GB. If the original publisher won't step in, then the likes of LRG almost certainly will.
Ok, here is an honest question, what happens if the game in my Nintendo e-shop has a price of like 1 dollar? Can I buy it at that price? I'm asking cause in the Mexican store it has that price right now, and I wonder if I buy it now at that price, if Nintendo corrects the price I'll get charged later on.
@Zach777 Game file size
12.9 GB
Digitally only? Bolocks! I'll get it for the PC, to play on Steam Deck.
@JeanPaul I'm not sure about where you live, but in most countries consumer legislation would stop the seller from charging any extra, even if they accidentally sold the game for too cheap. It's their mistake, so they'll suffer the consequences, not you.
@Ryu_Niiyama
So true my friend.....this month has just been unreal for ports. The library is by far the best on any N system to date. Nintendo's own offerings, some solid original 3rd party games, great ports from current and previous generations, and the best Indy scene in gaming bar none. It has pretty much everything a gamer could want and you can have it on the go or in your easy chair. I have been a gamer since gaming was a thing (started in the arcades in the late 70s and had an Atari 2600 in 81) and Switch is my favorite and most played system of all time. You know N won't waste this momentum. Next Switch will be just like the GBC to GBA or DS to 3DS generation. They will follow with something better but BC and keeping with the same hybrid portable format.
And what about European release of ultra kaiju monster rancher ? Do you have any updates on the subject pls ?
Pretty great game for sure, but I got it in a Steam sale this summer for around 7.5 euro including Alan Wake's American Nightmare and the 2 DLCs.
I kind of figured that it would be pricey on Switch, and it is imo (it's an 12 year old game after all). The Resident Evils were pricey too on Switch, but they are generally better games than this imho.
@Polvasti Currently I'm in Mexico, in the coming months I'll go back to Prague. And yeah, you're right about the consumer legislation. Guess I'll have the game for really cheap then. Thanks!
@Belatarr It is, but it's their fault, just bought it and yeah, it only charges $ 26 Mexican pesos. Enjoy it man, we got lucky!
@DJDM i have played alan wake and i can confirm his torch does not flash. quite frankly it'd be annoying if it did!
I would if there was a physical copy.
Can get the original version on Steam for dirt cheap, I might as well get that and play it on Steam Deck.
Huh, for some reason I thought this was a cloud edition. Fantastic news that it's a real, fully functional version of the game.
The game is priced incorrectly in the Mexican eShop, you can buy it there for a single dollar.
I’ll grab it later today
There was a mistake in my country's eshop and the game is only $1.20 USD or £1.06 GBP so I quickly got it and hope is a good game for this spoky season
I might have to try this.
@QuickSilver88 I prY you're right. You sound a similar age to me, similar start time in gaming, although I had a binatone with tennis football etc. Me and my 300 plus haul of shame backlog is praying you are right on the bc they had with their previous game boy branded handhelds
@Zach777 did it ever come out physical for other systems? I have always had it digitally.
If it had a physical release, I definitely would buy it. Digital only means I'll pass. I have the original version for 360 and the remaster for PS5. So hyped for Alan Wake 2!
@TekSone
Not sure, but even if it didn’t that may not necessarily mean a smaller publishing company won’t step up and seek rights to a physical edition.
@BigE I work on Walton Street over the road from the stadium (just wanted to say that 👍🏻😂)
You'll be glad to see the back of the fair then! At least having our game delayed until last Sunday because of it meant the whole weekend wasn't ruined 😅
I tried out the remaster on XSX and honestly I liked the old X360 version better on XSX as it got the 60FPS frame boost treatment, so I just preferred it even with the older textures. Good game and might grab it if it goes on a steep discount but just so much other content to play on Switch I can't be bothered with it. Sparks and P5R eating up all my time until new FE arrives in January.
All right. 20% off is good enough incentive for me. You son of a b!+ch, I'm in!
@Zach777
I'd be in twice if limited run or anyone else steps up.
Anyone know the docked and handled resolutions and fps etc.
on the Mexican eshop it's quite a deal... If you can region hop, well worth it. Guess they made a mistake.
Look up RGT85's thoughts on the port on YouTube. It's not a good port at all.
Guys it looks and plays a tad rough on switch 😬
@LeChuck
I've been playing it for the last two hours. It's a middle-of-the-road port. It's no Alien: Isolation or Nier: Automata, but it's no ARK, either. I'm further along in this playthrough then I ever got on my Xbox One X.
I always thought this looked cool, but never had a console to play it. After Gold Coins got it for quite cheap. I guess I’ll play this after XBC3, but I’ll get around to Nier and Persona eventually, I’m sure.
@Guitario
It runs fine it's an Xbox 360 title, the Switch is many times more powerful than an Xbox 360
@LeChuck
RGT85 is barely a gamer, so his opinion matters very little. If I want to know how to blow money on OneUp Arcade machines I'll consult his videos.
@QuickSilver88
I just got past the Lighthouse on Sparks of Hope, the game is quite amazing and super fun to do all the side missions and explore the levels. Also Rabbid Peach's evil laugh when she launches her rockets cracks me up
i was watching the gameplay at Youtube, running on Switch, very poor frame.
rgt 85 said this was a terrible remaster
Hell yes! Been waiting forever for this and was predicting it would be out by Halloween. Now time to jump on my Switch and purchase it!
Great game, BUT THIS PORT SUCKS. Play it on anything else. I'd rather play my original 360 copy than this crap. This video shows off terrible performance, in the 20s of frames, even when there's not a lot going on.

@DTfeartheBEARD It's Alan Wake so I'm going to double dip by buying the digital on Switch and then physical if that ever comes our way. I had it on 360 back in 2010 as well.
I also got it for like 1 dollar from the mexican eshop
I happened to be passing by Mexico tonight so hopped over the border and bought it there. Turns out I suck. Game seems very playable, I just haven't figured out the best strategy at dealing with attacks - torch seems to run batteries down nearly as fast as ****ing Tories run down the UK.
@JustMonika I wouldn't buy Alan Wake for Switch. I watched some gameplay videos for the Switch version and it looks rough with framerate issues and low resolution. The 360 version looks better. If you have a PS4/PS5, I suggest you buy a physical copy of Alan Wake for that instead.
It's nice when a game I want to play is on Switch.
I bought it at the faulty price of 23,99 Mexican, which is about 1,2 Euro, and have played it out of curiousity because of the instant negativity, but the price being a "sale" we'll probably never see, and I didn't believe it would PLAY bad.
And it's true, it's not the most beautiful port, but if you allow yourself to enjoy it, and don't allow influencers to tell you it's "unplayable", it is perfectly playable, and a perfectly enjoyable port of a good game.
Now, I wouldn't pay regular asking price, but I never do. I'd also like to see gyro aim patched in, and some visual upgrades for the brighter daylight scenes especially, but the game plays perfectly fine, and runs native, so it's already better than a cloud version.
@rupert_the_giantbear Did you also notice that the game is set in the United States, where torches involve fire?
@DJDM ah yes i hadn't noticed that. for some reason i've always thought it was set in north yorkshire!
currently very confused because until today i was convinced this game was about a haunted holiday let just outside of skipton.
is it just me or is this some sort of shared false memory, like the mandela effect?
@Guitario I’m a little over halfway through and it’s pretty good all around
@DTfeartheBEARD I’m about halfway through and haven’t had any issues
@ketrac I’ve been playing docked on a 1st Gen switch and it’s been fine
@GannonBanned I'm glad to hear it! Does it have gyro support? I'd love to have this game on Switch, if only it had a physical release...
@GannonBanned oh good to hear, adding it to wishlist
@DTfeartheBEARD no gyro but the way the games aiming works I actually don’t even know how it would - and I’m a gyro fan
@Zach777 true
