Xseed Games has announced that it will be releasing Story of Seasons: A Wonderful Life for the Nintendo Switch, launching in Summer 2023.
The game is a full remake of Harvest Moon: A Wonderful Life, which originally launched on the GameCube back in 2003. It sure looks and sounds familiar too, with the main theme bringing back all those wonderful memories, along with and a few tears, too...
Here's a list of features from Xseed Games:
Key Features
A Familiar Farm for a New Generation ‒ Revisit this iconic community with updated systems, character designs, and visuals that revitalize Forgotten Valley while maintaining the charm that made the original a classic.
Your Story, Your Way ‒ With the option to play as a male, female, or non-binary protagonist, as well as all eligible marriage candidates available for romance regardless of that choice, players can truly be who they want.
Farming Simulation Evolved ‒ The original farming features have been updated, bringing new excitement to the carefree life of growing crops and raising animals.
Living a Wonderful Life is More Than Just Farming ‒ While taking a break from your daily farm work, befriend memorable characters in the valley, help fellow residents with requests, and experience all-new events.

I legit screamed. If I weren't such a big Zelda and FE fan I would say this made the Direct for me. Nami, I have missed you. I would say this is the Bokumono I have sunk the most time into (and I have like 300 hours in Olive Town)...still have my original save files. And I never played Another Wonderful Life so this is almost a new game at this point for me.
EDIT: I CAN MARRY NAMI AS A WOMAN?! Ok this made the Direct for me. Zelda what? Fire Emblem Who?
I still love the GameCube original but now I could finally play this game in true HD this time.
Felt like half the games in the direct were these farming sims ...Great for those who like it, I'm very happy for you, don't get me wrong, but ...there were quite a lot of them, right?
...Just me?
Non binary protagonist, WUUUT??
Can I play as a guy to get married with the dudes?
The music hit me like a wave, almost cried when this came up. So much nostalgia tied to this game, can't wait! Really hope it's a solid remake.
I loved the GC one, can't wait to give this a go
@Anti-Matter Seems so, the romance options don't seem linked to player gender this time around.
If Harvestella doesn't have relationship option (muchless a queer one) I definitely get this for my next year life sim game.
I noticed some name changed characters.
Marlin -> Matthew
Muffy -> Molly
WUUT??
I used to play the GC version with my sister all the time back in the day. There was no Internet for us so we had a blast figuring everything out on our own. Can't wait to relive some childhood memories with this one
I'm split between whether I think remaking A Wonderful Life is a good idea or if I think they should've done DS instead.
Think ultimately AWL is a good one to go with though, provided they do a good job of tightening up some of its issues. Even just picking up the pace on it and adding festivals would help a lot to make it less of a grind to get through.
I never played but my brother did along with my sister so who knows they might like it.
@Lizuka Growing up, I couldn’t stick with AWL for as long as I would have liked due to how slow the game felt after the first two chapters. I still adore how experimental its concept is, and some of the more realistic ranching mechanics do hold up. If they can make more of the villagers age, they can easily add in some more activities later in the game.
Aside from that:
All in all, I’m fairly optimistic.
@Anti-Matter Yeah, disappointing. All they needed to do was polish and port the original. And "Forgotten Valley" instead of "Forget-Me-Not-Valley"? Those aren't synonymous terms.
I did not know I needed this in my life. So excited to play this again
I think it is time to say goodbye to the series. But I will play Doraemon 2.
@Burning_Spear It's because this is a more faithful translation of the Japanese, the same way FoMT was - dialogue mentioning it there also called it Forgotten Valley. Given the publisher change they might actually not be able to use the original translation.
I have the original on the GameCube, and the Special Edition on PlayStation 2. Looking forward to this one.
I just hope one of the new features in the game is an automated irrigation system. My current playthrough has me spending nearly all day in-game watering my crops, leaving me little time to do anything, such as interacting with the townsfolk (meaning I missed out on getting the cat from Romana).
As it is, I barely had enough time to court one of the potential suitors in the game (this time, I wanted to challenge myself and went for Nami, and her fickle nature made it very difficult, especially when trying to get into her room to read her journal and check my progress in wooing her).
Having the automated irrigation system (or slowing down the in-game clock while not slowing down the actual gameplay) would go a long way in helping me do more stuff around the town beyond just watering my crops.
@Vil I felt like half of the games were more Square Enix games than they were the farming sims. Might as well have called this the Square Enix Direct.
While it's awesome that I will be able to finally play this entry, I still miss the original art styles :/
I ordered a copy of the original on GameCube earlier this year. I'd love to play a version with some specific fixes. I want to sit on the side of the road and sell vegetables. It's a weird urge.
@Vil I think there were only three newly announced farming sims.
as long as murrey shows up in this i'll be happy
This probably won't be a day one purchase for me, but I think I will get it down the line (especially for the nostalgia factor). I remember putting so many hours into the GC version. Good times!
It's funny because the day before the Direct I was listening to Matt McMuscles' episode of What Happened on the Harvest Moon series, and I thought to myself, "You know, Another Wonderful Life was just A Wonderful Life DLC that cost the price of a full game. If they ever remake it, they should just combine the two." I'm not even a Harvest Moon fan, and yet I brought back one of the very few games I played. To all you Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons fans, you're welcome, now do me a solid and summon F-ZERO into existence, because nothing I do ever works.
@Anti-Matter I personally prefer the original names, wonder why they changed some of them?
So excited to see this. I wasn't expected GBA remake either. Switch is now home to all of the best farming sims. It's also great to see RF3 getting some love. Personally, the RF I played the most was RF2, but I think that one hasn't aged nearly as well as RF3-4. Definitely going to preorder when it becomes available!
