The Pokémon Company has once again put all other brands to shame with its demonstration of how to mark a store's grand opening. Japan's newest Pokémon Center has opened today in Okinawa, Japan, and alongside some official images of the fresh store, the company has also released an original animation, 'Travelling Gurdy', to mark the occasion.
If you have watched the video below, you might find yourself dabbing a small tear from your eye — join the club! The two-minute short shows an isolated Growlithe travelling through various regions in search of his friends. Realised in a watercolour 2D style, the animation appears different to the Pokémon anime that we have come to expect, but it is all the more heartwarming because of it.
One Twitter user, @MarvicaFii, has already been lucky enough to visit the new Pokémon Center and has documented the full experience on their feed. We have linked some of our favourite snaps below, but there is way more in store so be sure to head over to @MarvicaFii's page to get the full experience of their visit.
Those lucky enough to visit this Pokémon Center will be greeted by that giant Arcanine and Pikachu plush — now if that isn't enough of an excuse to go, we don't know what is. Road trip to Japan, anyone?
What do you think of this new Pokémon Center? Are you going to visit? Let us know in the comments below!

I've always liked Growlithe and Arcanine but the one two punch of their Hisuian variants and using them in Let's Go Pikachu catapulted them straight up to being one of my personal favourites so this animation puts a gigantic grin on my face, top stuff all around.
Also that art style is hyogonosuke's from a mile away and you can't convince me otherwise.

Guess I am the first to comment because everyone is in aw... So Cool...
Scratch that I was second!
That animation is pretty basic and kinda janky and doesn't look like watercolours at all, more paper cut-outs if anything.
but that store...now that IS gorgeous! I was lucky enough to visit the Skytree Pokemon Centre and it was super cool but this looks next level!
Edit: why is the thumbnail and firs image a janky 3D render and not one of the images of the actual shop? That Arcanine and Pikachu statue looks amazing in the photos where it's covered in fur and not low-poly.
"Travelling Gurdy" looks like it's from a machine translator.
It's part two of "Travelling Gardie", with Gardie being the Japanese name for Growlithe.
Here's part one of the animation: https://twitter.com/Pokemon_cojp/status/1551402051061616645
@Ogbert LOL I didn't notice that but you're right, the image they're using for the thumbnail must have been a promotional concept image or something haha
Visited several Pokémon centers when I was in Japan they are amazing and worth visiting for any Pokémon fans. In a year or two when I am back to Japan may have to add Okinawa to the list 😉
Booo-teee-full. I <3 Arcanine. One of my 6 go-to pokes in Pokemon GO. [For the 0 or 1 person interested, other 5 are: Magnezone, Machamp, Gyarados, Yanmega & Tangrowth
So lovely and heartfelt. And that house on the hill at the end was so cozy!
@Fizza love Hyogonosuke art!
