It's almost the end of August, which means it's almost time for Spain's La Tomatina festival, an event in which the residents of Valencian town Buñol throw a bunch of the goopy red fruits at each other until the town square looks like ragu.
Isabelle's apparently just come back from her holidays in Spain, because she's decided to celebrate this messy festival with in-game items for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, similar to other festive events and items that are released throughout the year.
The item in question is a bold and bright T-shirt with a tomato and the word "tomate" on it, which is — you guessed it — the Spanish for "tomatoes". And look at the attention to detail in this picture: Tomato boxes, growing tomatoes, pizza and stuffed tomatoes, red hair... You can even see Ketchup in the back there, wondering if this all counts as cannibalism.
Grab your tomato T-shirt before the 31st August, which is when La Tomatina takes place, and you'll be the talk of the tomat-own. Tomato. Town. Hmm.

A New Horizons update!? This truly are the signs of the end of days.
Apropos of sorta: https://m.vk.com/video466858_165618423
Every time I see something out AC I feel it pulling me back in. I finally stopped playing earlier this year and am trying not to go back.
That tomate themed farm looks awesome. They even have the resident Ketchup in the background.
I’m still playing mostly everyday. Great game to play when I want to chill and slowly continue to create builds.
A new Animal Crossing item...now? That is quite curious...but a very "Nintendo" thing to do...
I bought 5. Tomorrow I’ll be buying another 5. 🍅🍅🍅🍅🍅
I wasn't aware you could grow tomatoes in New Horizons. I assume that means you could also make pizza? If so.....I might have to pick ACNH up
@Fizza yes! There are a few different pizzas you can make.
Meanwhile, this villager (Ketchup) is really worrying about herself as a Tomato.
ordered 10 and gonna gift all to each villager on my island :3
@FoxMcMuffin I had to stop when things started opening again. I also have a massive gaming backlog.
I have been to Buñol for La Tomatina, and it was one of the most fun things I’ve done in my life! If you get a chance to go to the festival, take it - it’s an hour-long, hilarious food-fight
Okay, I did go back to my island to get this shirt. I had to kill a few roaches in my house, but otherwise the place is the same as I left it. It is a strange feeling going back.
While I have really good memories of such a great game, I also feel no real desire to continue to play. Much like when I went back to check out New Leaf: it was good, but the moment is gone.
I still say that New Horizons and Breath of the Wild are the two best games, period.
@Anti-Matter lol
Screw okami, I gotta go get this tomato shirt.
@FawfulDX @Erigen ACNH is developed by the same team as Splatoon 3 so maybe the timing isn't completely random! Probably they've finished on Splatoon now now so maybe we'll get a few more Animal Crossing updates 😲 They did say the big 2.0 update was only the last MAJOR update
Not gonna get my hopes up but Animal Crossing New Leaf got some cool things at the end of it's lifespan like the Animal Crossing Puzzle League game!
Mmm now I want some tomatoes, goshdarn it..
Tomato family photo :3
You say "Tomater," I Zader "matermorts!"
That came from a Homestar Runner Thanksgiving toon, spoken by Coach Z.
@Erigen There was no update in place. This event was included as part of the 2.0.0 update back in November. It only needed this date to trigger.
@Wolfenpilot687 it's still considered a seasonal update regardless kiddo
