Persona 3, 4, and 5 Confirmed For Xbox And PlayStation, But Not Switch

Specifically the PS5? Like these games couldn't run on a PS4?

Persona 5 Royal is already on PS4 at least, but yeah, looks like SEGA/Atlus and/or Sony want P3P and P4G to be PS5-only.

Likely saving it for a Direct.

This is a bummer; no other way to put it.

Guys don't lose your wits yet, it'll probably get announce for the Nintendo Direct. Just pray that Sega and Atlus doesn't take the cheap way out and make them cloud versions. Also keep in mind these are not the original PS4, PS Vita, and PS3 versions, these are the PC versions ported to consoles so if you already got them on PC then you had nothing to worry about.

It would be such a missed opportunity to not have P3P on a console that’s actually portable.

Please, for once Atlus, don’t be you for a second and actually pull the port trigger already.

If they don’t want our money, there are emulators.

These games are perfect for Switch. 100 hour RPGs were made to be played on the go, fingers crossed we get an announcement soon!

Unless something is announced in an upcoming Direct, I’m starting to believe that Sony is deliberately trying to keep mainline Persona titles from the Switch, almost as if they fear it.

Atlus works in mysterious ways, but now the conspirologists don't even have any remnants of "top secret PlayStation exclusivity" to harvest from this.😏

Personally, I'm not too concerned. I'm still in Revelations endgame, so it's four more numbered entries between me and the currently only non-portable one - which, if push really comes to shove one day, is a turn-based JRPG and thus theoretically tolerable with Vita controls (but still something to stream, so I might actually go for the Steam version instead, especially if I somehow procure a Steam Deck). But there's literally no apparent reason for the games not to be on Switch outside Atlus and Sega's whims, so I respect their call but will always view the Switch (or, if long enough time passes, its successor) ports as much more likely than not.

Yeah i'm absolutely done with Atlus, do they have some sort of vendetta against Nintendo or something?

I supported and bought almost every game they released on Switch and 3DS, but first they're skipping Switch over with Soul Hackers 2 and now Persona games are on literally every single platform but the one people were screaming about for them to port the games to?

This is absolutely ridiculous at this point, I don't wanna buy their games anymore, i'm done, no thanks.

With the announcement that this is coming to PlayStation, this rules out timed exclusivity. This is definitely getting announced for Switch, likely that Nintendo Direct.

I see this as a Nintendo Direct announcement. Not too worried here.

@FX102A Sony doesn't own Persona so it's not their doing. I think Atlus wants to announce it but Nintendo doesn't want it reveal until the Nintendo Direct. Either that or Sega still had bad blood with Nintendo which I don't get since Nintendo is helping them with Bayonetta 2 & 3 and put Sonic in four Smash Bros. games already.

I'll come back here in a couple of hours and it'll be announced for PS4, few hours later, Stadia and then iphone/android, then PS6...

It's almost as if they don't like money, they would guarantee sell super well imo.

I HAVE to imagine the announcement is being held back for a Direct. Atlus has supported Nintendo consoles well for years now. There's no way we're not getting these.

@RushDawg I'm willing to bet there won't be a physical release for P3P or P4G, but if there is, the thought that these older games will have the PS5 banner when I put them next to P5, P5R, P5S, and Persona Dancing: Endless Night Collection is just a bit silly to me.

Has to be them saving it for the Direct. If not this is just the most baffling decision ever. I mean it is Atlus (and by extension SEGA who are equally as confusing a company) but man. I wouldn’t be surprised at all if the demand for Switch versions outweighs demand for the other versions.

@Itachi2099 I mean, I don't disagree, but DS/3DS were much cheaper platforms to develop for. It took them a while to get on-board, but they've been releasing games on Switch pretty consistently since that point, with most of those games being new to Nintendo consoles, and one even being a big budget exclusive.

Soul Hackers 2 is one thing, since we don't exactly know the scope of that game. But it's pretty much unthinkable that Persona would go to literally every platform but Switch.

Really makes me wonder why they wasted a coveted spot on the Smash roster for Joker. He's not a legacy video game character, and he's not playable on a Nintendo system.

Say what you will about the obnoxious Dragon Ball fans, but Goku would have actually been a more appropriate choice over Joker.

Either Xbox got additional exclusivity, they're waiting for the direct, or they really don't wanna bring it to Switch

The only logical explanation is that the games are being announced in a Direct but then again Soul Hackers 2 isn't coming to Switch either so maybe it's more like Nintendo announces new hardware and all 4 games (the 3 Persona games and Soul Hackers 2) come to the new hardware.

Either way I think it's very likely now that SMTV goes multiplatform around November 2022.

It's not impossible that they are saving the announcement of the Switch ports at a Nintendo Direct. I think Guardians of the Galaxy (Cloud Version) and all the Life is Strange titles were only confirmed for Switch at a Nintendo Direct after they were announced for other platforms.

If the Persona games aren't announced at the next rumored Direct then they simply aren't coming.

This isn't a hardware specs issue (P3P/P4G are PSP/PSV games, P5R is an enhanced port of a PS3/PS4 game). If Persona 3/4/5 aren't coming to Switch then they probably aren't coming to Switch 2.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m SUPER happy that more people will get to experience these games, the more consoles the better!

That being said, we should at least get vanilla P5 on Switch. Between Smash Bros, Strikers, and the Catherine Full Body AND Super Monkey Ball DLC crossovers, they really might as well port that.

I'm not a Persona fan, but I think it could easily be announced at the Direct.

@Grumblevolcano I've been thinking about new Nintendo hardware a lot the past few days with all of the games that HAVEN'T been announced for Switch. But if games can run on Switch 2 surely they can run on Switch? I mean it has to be a PS4-PS5 and X1 - XS situation, not WiiU -Switch. Unless Nintendo is going to make like Sony and announce all games ate Switch 2 exclusive then months later announce they are also coming to Switch?

I also agree no need for a ND w/ all the info coming out daily about Strikers, Fire Emblem, XC3, even some Splatoon news. Though I would like a date for B3 and Mario v Rabbids, but that could wait until August. Nintendo does what Nintendo wants to do.🤷

@westman98 P3P and P4G aren't coming to PS4 (only PS5) which suggests Microsoft's caused some kind of awkward exclusivity where XB1 is the only last gen console they can come to.

@Desrever Joker is playable in Persona Q2 on the 3DS and Goku does not originate from a video game.

As much as I like P3P, I really want to see the PSP remasters of 1 and both of 2 to come out.

Wonder if the owners for other hardware are wondering when they will get Shin Megami Tensai games.

This works two ways, if we get Persona, we'd lose exclusivity on SMT.

Also, it seems like we are in agreement that this isn't a hardware specs issue. Either Persona 3/4/5 releases on the current Switch or it never hits Nintendo hardware in the foreseeable future, be it Switch, Switch 2, or otherwise.

I was only jesting (sort of) but considering Persona 5 Royal is perfectly playable on PS5 through backwards compatability I do fear Atlus may try some Last of Us remake hijinks with a PS5 version!

@westman98 I'm not discounting the possibility given something similar happened with Judgment (another SEGA game). That game had PS4 exclusivity so a XB1 version couldn't happen but the exclusivity didn't take into account other generations so Series X|S got a port.

It wouldn't surprise me at all if they are announced during the next Direct. Atlus clearly had some kind of time exclusive deal with Sony otherwise the game would have been on Switch ages ago as it is guaranteed money, and would definitely sell better on Switch than Xbox.

Big Phil probabaly had to hand over quite a bit of cash to convince Atlus to get the games on Gamepass.

Personally I just want the Persona games on Switch so everyone will shut up about it!

C’mon Atlus, be a good Atlass and do the right thing like Spike Lee .

Hopefully this bodes well and incentivizes Atlus to bring these and some of their other heralded titles over to the Switch.

The COPIUM is high in the comments. There is no logical reason why Attlus would hide the announcement of the switch port after announcing the rest of platforms.

You guys said the same thing when Activision announced the new Crash for every platform but switch and then it wasn't announced in the direct.

You can play the Xbox versions portable via Xbox Cloud Gaming. It works really well, especially for turn based games. So that is an option if no Switch versions are announced and you still want to play these games portable.

Judgement started off as a PS4 exclusive but then went multiplatform with late next-gen PS5/XBS/Stadia ports.

It's sequel, Lost Judgement, launched on PS5/PS4/XBS/XBO.

@Vyacheslav333 Doesn't matter.. still a direct sequel and a masterpiece. I enjoyed it just as much as P5 / P5R. The only thing I wished would've remained was romance options or a way to carry over an established romance similar to the Mass Effect series.

@Tzara Impossible to tell considering Persona has been a PlayStation console exclusive up until now so there’s no precedent set but considering the Switch dominates in Japan and how well suited massive RPGs are to handheld consoles I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to sell better on Switch. If Persona 6 launched on all platforms and the Switch port was great I would not be shocked at all to see that one sell the best.

Having all these available for PC sounds great on paper, but Atlus LOVES putting Denuvo Anti-Tamper into all it's PC games.

Meh I give up. I will say the whole fiasco (over the entirety of the series history) is why I have a middling interest in persona but love SMT. If a game isn’t on my radar, I am not going to care.

there are many and many games released by atlus on the various Nintendo Systems in the last decades and no one one of these reached the status Persona got today, right?

But it's not just Persona the same happened with Nier in the last generation and with many of japanese brands during previous generations: resident evil, metal gear, tekken, silent hill, monster hunter, devil may cry, dangaronpa, kingdom hearts, ecc all of them are born inside playstation.
Even names like Final fantasy and dragon quest are reborn during ps1 era.

Could u give me a jap third party game which benefited being on a Nintendo system in the last 5 generations?
Even Switch with its massive success in japan didn't value a single brand, at least not in the way ps4 did with persona or nier.

Persona is as big as it is because it’s story resonates with people more than the mainline post apocalyptic setting of SMT. It’s not because of Sony the series is successful. Had it been on Switch it would’ve sold just as well simply because that’s what tge majority of consumers want.

@GameOtaku Well the mainline series was only on Sony's console up to this point. The main core fanbase is on Playstation. You would be correct if you had said a large part of Persona's success is because if it's popularity on Playstation. That would be factual. Even those that played the games in the past played them on a Playstation console or handheld. It's why the demand for the game/series to go multiplat is sky high.

@Tzara Dragon Quest IX was the best selling DQ game until XI (which was on 5 platforms) for one example. Monster Hunter’s done well enough on Nintendo for Capcom to bring several mainline games to their consoles exclusively.

Regardless, Persona has sold great because it’s a great series not because it’s on Playstation. The popularity of Playstation consoles has helped it get to where it is for sure but it doesn’t live and die by that brand. It’s like saying Pokémon only sells well because it’s on Nintendo consoles…not the case. It sells well because it has a ton of appeal, same as Persona.

They should be announced in next direct. If the games are not coming is Nintendo fault that didn't close a deal with Atlus like Microsoft did considering its a franchise more important to Nintendo than Microsoft.

If they don’t want to spare the effort bringing it over, than I see no reason to spare the effort buying it on other platforms. Don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely FANTASTIC this series can flourish outside of PlayStation. But I’m just tired of this “will they, won’t they” back and forth. If it ain’t coming, then say it’s not coming.

I’m not getting my hopes up, but this is definitely something Nintendo would reveal in a Direct. It could still happen.

@RubyCarbuncle I don't think visual novels or 18+ patches would take that much memory. Probably the same or less than the Switch variants of the same VN's.

I'll be honest, I've never had an interest in these games and am unlikely to ever play them, but with all the spinoffs they've tossed at us and 5's protagonist even taking up a slot in the Smash roster, it'll be just plain insulting if they're out on Xbox before Switch.

I still say it’s the writing and the story that made it so popular not that Sony had anything to do with it being popular. Persona is bright and hopeful while SMT is dark and depressing.

I will just laugh out loud if the Persona dancing spin off game is announced for Switch and nothing else.

These games are going to launch on an LG Smart fridge before they ever hit the Switch at this point.

I hope they come to Switch. Nintendo players deserve the games. The support for other Atlus titles is immense.

Sony didn't pay for Judgement to not launch on XBO yet allow it to launch on XBS and Stadia.

I find it hilarious that one of the titles is literally Persona 3 "Portable" yet it's not coming to one of the most well known portable gaming device, lol.

One can only hope that a Nintendo Direct will actually happen and they get some sort of announcement there

I have called out every post acting like Persona 5 being absent from the Switch was a mystery, but now there is full reasoning to claim this. Beforehand the main series was almost entirely Sony exclusive with a PC release here or there, but now it's on Microsoft consoles... and not Nintendo? That's undeniably frustrating.

Bizarre. It’s not like Atlus doesn’t support Nintendo hardware, or that at least P3P couldn’t run on Switch. I’m guessing there might be a back room reason or two for the Persona embargo.

@Li_Bae If it’s not announced at the next Direct I’m going to assume Microsoft has paid to get these games over (they’ve had to pay a fee to get them on GamePass anyway so that may have been part of the deal). That or they’re coming later than everything else, or Atlus/SEGA are really just so boneheaded that they think Persona spin offs are the only things Switch fans want and not the proper games themselves. If there’s no back room deals with Sony keeping Persona exclusive as has been suspected for a while then what possible reason do they have not to bring them to Switch…don’t understand at all

Console exclusivity is fine. It gives each console an identity and makes each worth buying as much as the next. Console EXCLUSION, on the other hand, is the greatest insult one could ever get in the video games industry, save for hardware limitations.

I'll wait and see. There was no Direct announced for tomorrow, so let's see about those leaks everyone started freaking out about.

@CANOEberry At this point, I find it more amusing than annoying. The mainline Persona games on Switch is such a ridiculously easy win for them and they continue to pretend like they don't know or aren't sure the market is there.

It isn't fair.... been wanting these on Switch for a long time.

For one thing, I do have a strong feeling that the Nintendo Switch announcement will be made during the summer direct. Xbox doesn't make a habit of stepping on Nintendo's toes when they want a "surprise reveal". It's maddening, but Nintendo is extremely controlling with their content. For another thing, I'm puzzled that Xbox is getting Persona 3 Portable instead of FES, which would be in-line with Golden and Royal for 4 and 5 respectively. I want to know whose brilliant idea it was to port a PSP game to consoles instead of an HD PS2 game.

I feel like, despite not hearing a reason for it, there has to be some legal reasons why it's not released on Nintendo platforms. Some agreement somewhere or some licensing that makes it tricky to SPECIFICALLY put on a Nintendo platform. Otherwise there's no reason why any of these aren't in the domain of Mario. It's baffling to have the side games and even Joker in Smash but not the core title

@KindofaBigDeal : I have absolutely ZERO objection to that if that makes the difference between a complete physical release and a cloud/mandatory download one. I don’t want a “cheaper” product, but rather the best one.

Of course, I don’t think that such hikes should be passed on to digital buyers if the larger capacity storage is the main reason for the price increase.

I’ve never actually played any of the Persona games. I’d really like to try 5 (I think it’s that one everyone says is the best) but I’m not interested in playing a long JRPG type game on anything but the Switch. To me it’s the ideal platform for long-form games so it’s crazy Atlus won’t port it to the Switch.

I guess it could be announced during the Direct, but depends if this is not the case of big money exclusivity ( you saw Phil announce it himself). Maybe Nintendo refused to pay, because there is no logical explanation why until now we don't get them, they know the public WANTS these games.
Even if this is the case, it could be timed exclusivity for 1 year.

In true Atlus fashion. I have my doubts it'll ever come to the Switch, because Atlus gonna Atlus.

If they ever come to the Switcm, they might end up doing it in the worst way yet: as Cloud Versions, just like the Kingdom Hearts games. The games are probably too big for a standard version, or even a Multi-Card version.

We can't have everything. The Switch has the best catalogue of games out of any current consoles anyway, and it's just gonna get better with Xenoblade 3, Metroid Prime 4, Bayonetta 3, Splatoon 3, BotW sequel and Pokemon S/ V.

@Cia Switch should get things that make sense for it though. It’s understandable when a game targeting higher end machines doesn’t come over but ports of older games that would run just fine, especially in a series that has spin-offs of said games already on Switch…there’s no excuse at all save for money hatting from Microsoft keeping it off of there (which considering these ports are coming to PS5 and Microsoft not seeing Nintendo as a competitor in the same way as Sony, I doubt is the case)

As a Series X/Switch owner I was thrilled that it was coming to ONE of the systems I own. But honestly, I think it only hasn't been revealed for Switch yet because there will be a direct soon. Nintendo tries to maximize the hype train, after all.

Relax. They're coming to Switch. There's no way they don't. Exclusivity is clearly not a factor now. I guarantee we'll get them announced in the next Direct.

from what i been reading on you tube from some gamers who would know such things rumor is persona 3 and persona 4 will be coming to the switch..

well you can always go for the steam deck and play persona series there

I'm just glad they're coming to PC. I'll be playing then there. I'll probably pick them up on Switch as well if they're released physically.
