Rumours surrounding the potential ports of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess on Switch are seemingly never-ending. With the recent delay of Breath of the Wild 2 into 2023, key industry figures are once again speculating that the classic GameCube (and Wii) titles may just see the light of day later this year.
Jeff Grubb, upon answering a listener question on his YouTube channel, has expressed his confidence in Nintendo releasing a double pack on Switch containing both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess, emphasising his belief that if Nintendo don't do it this year, then it might never come to fruition:
"They want to have a Zelda thing every year, they've been holding onto this, why wouldn't they just put it out this year, and if they don't put this out or some other Zelda thing this year instead of just waiting for Breath of the Wild 2, I just will not understand.
I do think this game, as much as it was a joke in the Mega64 video, I do believe it does actually come out in October. I think we get that in October, I think we get a Metroid Prime remaster in November, and I think we get Advance Wars 1 + 2 in December."
It's important to make it crystal clear that Jeff is more or less speculating in this video, however educated his guesses may be. It's entirely possible that Nintendo doesn't launch Wind Waker or Twilight Princess on the Switch at all, but we at Nintendo Life remain ever hopeful.
What do you make of Jeff's predictions? Do you think we'll see Wind Waker and Twilight Princess on Switch? Let us know in the comments!

I don't think so, if it will, should've happened a long-time ago.
TP and WW packaged together sounds like too good of a deal. I imagine Nintendo would want $60 for them individually. Either way, I don't care much for either game.
Not really a rumor (as mentioned in the article) but a guess
Waste of time article. -_-
This makes too much sense for Nintendo to actually come up with it. No chance.
It's a good educated guess considering ports are quick jobs. Guess we'll find out soon.
Jeff Grubb's name appears way too often
But both games as a package together? lol nah pretty sure Nintendo would rather release both separate for full price
Is the source for this "rumour" one individual's opinion?
If so, I hear the Expansion Pass will become free, Switch Pro will come out next week for £149, and the next Zelda will be 3DS exclusive. Get the article out quick! It's my opinion, after all.
Pretty strange to think that if we don't get it this year, that we may never see it.
"...emphasizing his belief that if Nintendo don't do it this year, then it might never come to fruition:"
Regardless of what does or doesn't happen in 2022, it's foolish to think there's any likelihood that these will stay in the vaults.
I think it's pretty likely that we get something Zelda-related this year. Two remastered games? Probably not.
The furball, upon answering another random groping prediction on NL's comment section, has expressed confidence in rumour-mongers unleashing a double dump on Switch, containing both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess - emphasizing the certainty that if Nintendo don't do it this year, then they'll bloody well do it only whenever and if ever they please.
Oh look! The same regurgitated rumor ftom the last what, 5 years? 6 years?
Why does it need to get ported anyway? The last HD remasters weren’t that long ago
If I wanted unsubstantiated gossip, I have a nosey aunty with far juicier stories than this!
I own both on wiiu and have them on my pc and i have the originals on my phone and tablet, but yet I'd still buy it on switch again....damn you Nintendo..dammn youuuu
People have been predicting this and Metroid Prime trilogy every year, for the past couple of years. Even if he's right (which he's likely not), I'd be a fool if I got excited for something that has consistently proven to be false.
I really liked the way the gamepad was used in these games, if they ever get ported to switch I’ll probably won’t buy them since for me I already own the definitive editions on the wiiu
Ports rumored this year!
-Says guy on internet
Just give me Advance Wars please.
Deja vu, I have been in this space before....

@Needham90
it makes not much sense. breath of the wild 2 might come out around march next year, i see no way they release 6 month before another zelda game. those releases are always roughly with a 1 year inbetween
We've been burned by this prediction a million times already. I think there's a good chance, with no Zelda game coming out this year. I'm interested, at any rate: Twilight Princess is the only mainline non-portable Zelda (except Zelda 2) that I've yet to play all the way through. And as it's my favorite franchise, I'd like to complete it.
I wonder what his excuse he will give if he ends up being wrong.
Ooh I want to play these so bad… I could emulate them but would rather have them on my switch. But this is one of those rumors that’s existed since the switch released so I’m not optimistic
You know you guys don't have to report on every rumor right?
I reckon Nintendo is sat on a pile of Wii U ports all done and dusted and is just dishing them out when the schedule demands it.
Wind Waker, TP and maybe Xenoblade X were probably backended ages ago.
@ArmenianJedi13 I don’t think anyone here believes there’s a “need” for it, but many of us (myself included) missed out on the Wii u generation. We didn’t get to play the HD remasters and would love to try them without… well, spending a lot more on the Wii U and WW/TP for Wii U. It’s far less affordable and convenient, not to mention Nintendo has actively been porting games over like Pikmin 3, Mario bros, and tropical freeze.
If you’re not crazy about a rumour like this coming true, no problem. It’s been beaten to death at this point. But I’m a huge sucker for WW and folks like me would buy it instantly. I don’t get tired of hearing about the ports because given Nintendo’s track record, it’s very possible it will happen on the Switch and be extremely successful in sales.
Nintendo is probably sitting on 1-2 years worth of completed stuff. Wouldn’t be surprised if this was recently finished, even done a while ago.
oh so you'll mention the mega64 video in the article quote but not show the world Scrunt https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYPY6nwS8l8
even after rocco saw you guys at the lrg store...
@AndyC_MK111 I was a Wii U owner, I don’t think it’s a bad idea to port the entire library over. No one is going to buy a Wii U to play those games. The faster they bring over the library, then I’ll reformat my old Wii U hard drive and repurpose it.
"Sigh, here we go..."
Yeah... cause of you..
No need anymore for me, loaded up Cemu on my Steam Deck and both HD versions of the games play flawlessly.
Well I have been saying these games will come to switch for years now. Guess that means I am now a “insider”. I even have sources. No I can’t name any of them, but trust me.
@AndyC_MK111
I have these games on Wii U to. But I would love these on switch.
Mostly because my game pad will not connect unless I literally have the console on my lap.
Unfortunately that prediction seems like too many games towards the end of the year.
If correct the release schedule would be roughly like this:
Sept - Splatoon 3
Oct - Pokemon Scarlet & Violet
Oct - Zelda Twilight & Windwaker
Nov - Metroid
Dec - Advance Wars 1 & 2
Also Bayonetta 3 and Mario and Rabbids 2 is also 2022?? So add them in somewhere before years end also...
It seems very unlikely.
Well, with Breath of the Wild 2 being delayed to next year and Nintendo doing some Zelda related release every year for a while now, that can only mean...
LINK'S CROSSBOW TRAINING HD, BABY
LET'S GO
In all seriousness though, it wouldn't surprise me if Nintendo has been sitting on Switch ports of both Wind Waker and Twilight Princess as a backup if BotW2 missed 2022.
@AndyC_MK111 Like progx, I don't think it's a bad idea either. Sure it can suck if you already got these games on Wii U, but it's not like this is a practice that is exclusive to Wii U to Switch ports.
The only thing I don't like is how they're definitely going to charge full price for them again.
Bait clicked.
I still have my Wii U so it’s nice that I still have access to Windwaker HD, and Twilight for the old Wii. with that said, it would be nice to have these titles on Switch but not must buy purchases if they did release
…on the other hand…if they did release…and if the rumored GB/GBC/GBA Nintendo Switch online were to release, the Switch can have the potential to have all Zelda releases on a single system! (they’d also have to release DS/3DS Switch on line service to have them ALL completely…sorry CD-i Zeldas)
Honestly at this point I am a little tired of talking about this, the back and forth rumors on this for the last few years have lowered my excitement for this so at this point if it comes, awesome but I am not getting my hopes up until we see something from Nintendo themselves.
It's getting hard to justify rebuying these games.
I got the HD Remasters for the extra content and different visuals.
I mayyyy get them on Switch to have them on cartridge, but asking $60 for each game is going to be a deal breaker I think.
$60 for a double pack on cartridge sounds good to me.
I could see it happening. They, Nintendo, have released a zelda game ever year since switch's release I believe. And with botw2 being delayed to 2023, a remaster, rerelease would fill the gap.
I hope TP HD comes to Switch. In addition to the Wii version being one of my favorite games, my friend is giving me the Wolf Link amiibo soon and I'd like to get it to the full 20 hearts. Wind Waker would be nice as well. That game's good.
I'm honestly getting a little annoyed at this cyclical story for the last two years. If it happens it happens. Jeez man!
It wouldn't make sense otherwise.
@Silly_G About videogames? Lol
The idea that "there must be a Zelda game released each year" is way overstated. Yes, that is technically what has ended up happening over the last 10-15 years if you include the Hyrule Warriors games, but I don't think annualized Zelda is a steadfast rule that Nintendo is obliged to follow. I could totally see Nintendo not releasing any Zelda game this year and just letting everyone wait a few months until spring 2023 when BOTW2 launches.
Last year, Skyward Sword HD was announced in February and released in June, 5 months later. If Nintendo wants to announce Zelda port(s) for release this year, the clock is ticking.
Personally, I'd love to get them yet again, especially Wind Waker. That game has a special spot in my 40yo gaming heart, takes me back to a lovely time in my life...
If we keep saying it, it's bound to come true eventually.
It needs to happen. This company has got to do a better job of making its back catalogue more accessible and that includes 2001 - present, not just their 80s and 90s content.
I feel like stating that Advance Wars is definitely December shows that these are educated guesses at best. Advance Wars is ready to go, pulled just a month before it shipped because of external circumstances. If a sudden outbreak of world peace were to occur, Nintendo could release it whenever they need a major release. Why wait until December? What if war is still happening in December?
They did forecast lower Switch sales due to availability and wanted to make up the difference with game sales. So… maybe?
@westman98
Yeah if they aren’t announced by July I don’t think we get a Zelda game this year.
Well, you got your click. Hey if you want another article idea from a random dude, though, I heard Nintendo is turning Captain N: The Game Master into a feature-length film starring Liam Hemsworth.
I hope so, because if there's no Zelda this year and Mario+ rabbids gets delayed my switch Is gonna be collecting a lot of dust
Honestly, I would buy them again on Switch LOL
@Magician Agreed. 1-2 Switch is still $50 on the eShop. Link’s Awakening HD is still $60 on the eShop. As much as we want it, I can’t see them doing the double pack — unless it goes for $80.
I bought Twilight Princess for the gamecube & didn't complete it. Bought the excellent Wii port or Wii version and completed it. Bought the excellent Wii U HD port and completed it. Not sure I'd want to buy it again on the Switch.
On the other hand Windwaker I would, the Wii U port to the Switch that is. The Wii U port was that good and used the Wii U's features quite well. A similarly adapted Switch port would be nice.
It won't happen cause Nintendo hates money even though they kept complaining about profit loss. I could see them port one of those but to port both on the same year is just too generous and Nintendo ain't generous like that. Also this year they are focusing on new software so they probably won't get back to ports and remakes until next year. I guess these older games would had to wait until then, I also assume that's when we'll see the release of the Advance Wars 1 & 2 remakes as well.
Nintendo gave Wild Waker HD to people for free if you missed out on that then tough it's your fault Nintendo doesn't need to put that game and Twilight Princess HD on Switch
@CodyMKW Do you mean the Wii U bundle that included a digital code for WW? I did get that one (and wouldn’t say they gave it out for free).
Twilight Princess GameCube.
Twilight Princess Wii.
Twilight Princess Wii U.
Twilight Princess Switch?
Ever heard of the diminishing law of returns?
I know this is about Zelda but I'm surprised you brushed over the "Advance Wars 1 + 2 in December" part. Unless they decided to polish it again, Nintendo has no reason to keep it delayed. The game is already complete.
I hope we get them. With no new Zelda game in 2022 and how many people own a Switch that never had the Wii U. It would sell like hot cakes.
I think IF we get them on switch it will be during the switch's twilight (😅) year. That sort of awkward year where Nintendo doesn't want to invest to much in switch first party games because its successor is the following year, kind of like Twilight Princess on Wii u a little before the switch. Or maybe we just won't get them at all not the end of the world (as nice as it would be).
I also really don't think they'd drop it this year, most people I imagine take a little while to finish a Zelda game and there's two here with botw sequel sometime next year, they wouldn't want people burning out on Zelda or still playing them by the time the new one comes out. My take anyways.
It's one or the other. Nintendo likes to raise the value of their products through the roof, and releasing collections is very rare because of that.
Hey Nlife! My cousin says that Banjo Threeie is def(he guesses) in the works as a dual Switch/Xbox release! Please make an article about this as well!
Imagine if they had bundled Windwaker HD, Twilight Princess HD, & Skyward Sword HD as a legacy collection, instead of the latter just being a standalone. Would've been one of the best selling Switch games.
Instead we got a LoZ Game & Watch.
@abbyhitter heh, if it happens though, then this article becomes a successful prophecy and you.. well.. you will be known as the dude who said this comment.
A windwaker port is the bare minimum i hope for every direct
@AndyC_MK111 I only mean a Metroid remaster, not Metroid 4. Although even a Metroid Remaster seems optimistic I must say..
Why do gaming sites cover Jeff Grubb’s predictions as if they are news?
Probably not a bundle, they may just pick one of these or release both separately
I have yet to properly play wind waker. I had it on Wii U and GameCube but never actually sat down to play it. Twilight Princess though… that one I went right through and I absolutely loved it.
I’d love for a chance to play Wind Waker on Switch. I doubt it will happen though if I’m being honest.
I’ll type a line now that I’m here but I’ll say this isn’t thrilling stuff..
I'd genuinely be more excited for these than for BotW2 to be honest. Not that I'm not looking forward to that but I like both games more than I do BotW and there's something to be said for having the entire Zelda 3D lineup on the Switch.
Can’t see them throwing three more releases into a list that already includes Splatoon, Advance Wars, Bayonetta, Pokemon and Mario v Rabbids towards the end of the year.
I own both of these games on Gamecube and Wii respectively.
So many remasters and remakes. I hope Nintendo surprise us and pull out an ORIGINAL Zelda game for this year...It is possible.
i think it is a no-brainer the only question is the price.
I highly doubt it. Nintendo already "released" a Zelda game for Switch this year: Majora's Mask for the NSO N64 emulator. Sure, it shouldn't actually count, but given that BOTW2 has been delayed, my guess is that Nintendo will use the NSO releases as an excuse to say that they kept their promise of annual Zelda games.
I'm split on this. Would rather see something different (Ocarina or another portable remake like Awakening). However, I'd also probably buy at least Wind Waker.
In the end, BOTW 2 was planned for this year... if it slipped, that doesn't mean there is something to just slide in. We will need Zelda games for the other years without the big new release.
@DK-Fan Well, not 6, since the Switch wasn't even announced 6 years ago (Oct. 2016). :/
@Rachel_NES I didn’t realize you could get Wind Waker from Club Nintendo (Wii U game code, I assume).
Still, it is way harsh of @CodyMKW to say that people had their chance then. Switch users outnumber Wii U users about 10 to 1 (roughly looking at console sales). About 90% of Switch owners never owned a Wii U and don’t have a way of playing the HD versions of these games.
I thought this was a well grounded rumor but is just a random guess that anyone and his mate is making since 2018
TP/WW double pack this year or not at all is genuinely the biggest nonsense I've heard in the Switch era.
TP/WW don't even go together?! What? Because they both released on the Gamecube? Do me a favour. Ocarina and Majora's double pack on 3DS was delightful wasn't it? And Skyward Sword for £25 was so generous of Nintendo too... :/
Oh wait... Nintendo did neither of those things. Maybe it's because unlike their "fans" they actually understand and protect the value of their IP.
We are "due" a 2D Zelda. I'd much rather that arrive this year, and WW/TP can wait.
I REALLY REALLY hope he's right. Those are the ONLY mainline Zelda games I don't have the Japanese versions of and boy would I love to have them. 🥺 Especially since I have a perpetual project of re-playing through all the Zeldas in Japanese.
@ArmenianJedi13 2 people own the Wii U. Me, and Todd, who lives in New Jersey.
Basically no-one got to play the remastered editions of these games. They have free remastered editions sitting around on Wii U, it'd be a great financial decision to bring them to Switch.
And I have a bridge to sell to you.
If Nintendo were to release Wind Waker HD and/or Twilight Princess HD for Switch this year, either the two games are bundled together or only one of them is released (or they aren't released this year at all 😏).
I find it unlikely that Nintendo will launch two separate $60 ports from the same franchise together or even during the same month.
Possibly. Trouble is if so, they could easily be separate where 1 comes earlier and the other later and charge both for $60. Theres also the slim possibility that Gamecube games come to online and they'll be on that way meaning no quality of life improvements from the Wii U versions. If WWHD and TPHD did come to Switch they'd have to change some stuff that the Wii U versions did like the tingle bottle or the stamps.
These and OoT/MM would likely push me over the edge on getting an OLED model. And I have each game at least twice. Sorry b*stard.
I wish they would release WW and TP on the Switch...
This is an article about speculation.
Even though I respect Jeff Grubb and listen when he actually says he knows something, he's not saying that. He's just shooting from the hip like all of us on the site do every day.
Nothing makes his speculation more valid than anyone else's, provided they're reasonable educated guesses.
I love Jeff Grubb and while he's very good at reporting and leaking news on western studios, when it comes to Japanese companies he's usually just making educated guesses since he doesn't really have inside sources there and people take it as a legit rumors based on his western reporting.
They certainly could use some filler. Losing BotW2 for the holiday is gonna hurt. It's funny how much hype 2022 got but it's already lost steam. Only stuff coming is what, Splatoon 3 and a Pokemon game. Big in themselves but not a big-time holiday bash. The Double Zelda HD pack would crush it, like the Mario 3d All Stars did.
I hope so 🙏
Please and Thank You #Nintendo
I would buy a double pack. I own the games on wii u but don't have it connected to my tv anymore. I wish my copies were backwards compatible. I have the wolf amiibo too.
That would be great. I've been trying to play wind waker, but I just never end up playing anything on my TV anymore since getting a switch.
As much as I would love to revisit Twilight Princess and Wind Waker, along with Prime Trilogy, I don't see it happening. But I'd happily be proven wrong!
