OMOCAT's highly-anticipated Switch port of its horror RPG, Omori, was one of the featured games during Japan's Indie World showcase. And the presentation also confirmed an official release date for the game — 17th June!
While we initially reported that the game's physical edition would be shipping out on the same day, it seems that the eShop has also been updated with this June date, meaning we've got just over a month until we can dive into this sketch aesthetic turn-based RPG.
The Indie World trailer (which starts at around 12:00 minutes in) gives us a little taste of what we can expect - pastel, colourful worlds; unusual enemies; and our greatest fears. Omori follows a boy who wakes up in a "White Space", where he must confront his fears and secrets. The game has earned praise for its depictions of mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, grief, and guilt, and it utilises an Emotion system in battle, which works similarly to the Weapon Triangle in the Fire Emblem series.
We'll keep an eye on whether we get any more concrete info on Omori's release date, but 17th June is looking like the date to finally pick this one up.
Will you be grabbing it on release day? Or have you already played the game on PC? Share your thoughts with us.

Why does the Japanese Indie World seem like its more exciting than the US one? Titles like Omori, Neon White and OneShot all got more robust trailers. Maybe it's that the US show prioritised games that are newer, or haven't received as much coverage in the past. It's certainly admirable if that was their intention, but it definitely left the show feeling like it was missing something.
Edit: Also the Japanese narrator has such a suave voice. Boy do I wish I had a voice as nice sounding as that.
I can't wait to play this and see what the hype is about! I've been looking forward to it since it was announced for switch!
I've been sort of following Omocat ever since those little Zelda comics on tumblr. Honestly amazed to see them progress to this point
Horror?? But the art style is so cute! That's what is drawing me in... But I don't like horror. At all.
Just barely qualifies as Spring given it was first announced to be coming to Switch. But whatever, can't wait!
@TheBigK Then do not play Omori. I know it looks cute, but...
On the subject of quirky earthbound-inspired RPGs that didn't get highlighted enough in the US Indie World presentation, and apologies if an article is to be posted later, but... OneShot is coming! That game rules. It was interesting to see how it will work on consoles, putting an OS in the actual game. I just wish they would have actually highlighted the game since it's so charming. Niko deserves better.
I am interested. I will get it.
Along with Hollow Knight (the first one) and Silksong (whenever that comes out... ITS NEVER)
hot tip: the physical edition is up for pre-order on the Omocat's shop, and will be shipping in July!

@TheBigK if you don't like horror, please for your own good do not play Omori.
@TheBigK Yeah, this game is incredibly grim. I wouldn’t say it’s horror per se, it’s more a deeply distressing experience than outright scary.
I’m part of a religion that says your not allowed to see anything horror so is it out and out horror or is it just like Kirby or earthbound horror where its relatively minor?
Because it actually looks kinda fun. (Also bc I love rpgs)

@SteamEngenius Sort of disrespectful to call a religion a cult. If you disagree with something (which you can't really without any context), it might be better to stay silent about it.
I already pre-ordered a physical copy back in March 😁 .. I own several DDLC shirts that were designed by Omocat so I have to finally give this game a shot.
@CharlieGirl Yeah I pre-ordered back in March 😁
Should be good, people apparently love this game.
@Greatluigi
Keep in mind I haven’t played the game, but from what I’ve seen it’s more mental horror than anything else. The topics discussed would probably break other aspects of your religion, and there’s disturbing imagery from what I can decipher online, so I’d probably steer clear of this one, despite the wholesome exterior.
@Greatluigi You’d probably have to be more specific. If it’s to do with horror movies often having Satanic elements and stuff then you’re probably fine with this game. It’s less in your face horror and more psychological. I could more accurately say if the game was suitable if I knew where the line was, I knew a girl back in high school who wasn’t allowed to watch The Wizard of Oz because her parents said they didn’t condone witchcraft and black magic because of their religion.
@TheBigK then don't play OMORI for your own good it's like DDLC cute at first but become more scary later
Can't wait to replay this game. It was so good, and the music is eargasmic (google "World End Valentine"). Also, the game have a lot of replayability option.
@TheBigK without spoiler, the majority of the game is not "horror", but more psychological with sometime a disturbing vibe. Yes there is some minor jump scare (three, I think), but it's really good. The game have some hard topic that I will not tell because it's "spoiler", but if you want a good narrative and want to feel something different, then it's a good choice.
