Holidays are great and all, but when you have to go back to the hotel at the end of the day, it's a bit of a bummer to not be able to boot up a nice game of Mario Party Superstars on the bedroom TV — unless you've brought your Nintendo Switch dock with you, but why would you waste precious luggage space on a dock when you can fill it with Mario plushies from Super Nintendo World instead?
Nintendo clearly knows the issue here is the hotel not having any docks, and so they've partnered with a handful of hotels near to Universal Studios Japan (where Super Nintendo World is) to offer a dock rental service. Visitors can rent the dock, a high-speed HDMI cable, and the Nintendo Switch AC adapter at the following hotels, starting April 23rd:
- Oriental Hotel Universal City
- The Park Front Hotel at Universal Studios Japan
- Hotel Keihan Universal Tower
- Hotel Universal Port
Three more hotels are still preparing for the dock rental service, and will offer it at a later time:
- Hotel Kintetsu Universal City
- Hotel Universal Port Vita
- Liber Hotel at Universal Studios Japan
Is this a good idea, or do you already take your dock with you on every vacation? Do you wish hotels would offer this in your country? Let us know in the comments!

@Dezzy70 They covered that this morning? Why would they bring it up in this article?
On topic, I have a genki travel dock for traveling and it's fantastic. Wouldn't bring a full size one though.
Why can’t all hotels do this?
@link3710
Because I’m an arse and missed the article 😂
For the amount that I imagine these hotels charge for rooms, they can't just include a loaner dock for their paying customers who request one? Greed knows no bounds.
That's pretty sweet, but honestly, if you're already taking your Switch to a hotel, the dock and cables really don't take up that much more space in your luggage. Especially if they don't provide extra controllers, so you're already gonna have to pack those. It'd be a lot different if the dock was the size of a PS5 or something--that'd be much more of a hassle to take with you on a trip. So like, this is neat, but I don't really know if it's that useful.
@Dezzy70 I totally missed it earlier as well. I was wondering why the lack of news. I even scrolled down the page and somehow scrolled past 2 different articles about it.
@OorWullie
Had busy day at work totally missed it like you
On here NL then found out and got carried away.
Great news though.
Do you guys know how much? Just wondering. Thanks
I'm surprised this wasn't a thing since the beginning to be honest.
The trailer is pretty cute as well.
Are they charging guests for these dock rentals? I feel like this service should be complementary and only charged if it gets misplaced.
Every TV in the world needs a switch dock
I welcome our dock-planting overlords. It’s really hard to remember to take all the cords of a Switch and find places to put them, so this is something that should be applied to all hotels.
Reminds me of the hotels I visited as a kid with Super Nintendo on the TV for a premium.
That's...why I'm here.
imagine a world where the switch could simply use a standard USB-c -> HDMI cable and all this goofy plastic could just be left in the ocean where it belongs.
If it’s complimentary, great; otherwise, I’m happy to bring my own. When I worked interstate on a few occasions in 2018, I had taken my dock with me (ironically, the hotel TVs were only 720p). When our plane was cancelled on the way back, they put us in a really nice new hotel overnight, but it had a wall-mounted TV and made it impossible to set up the Switch dock, sadly.
@MindfulGamer : To be fair, at no point did the article state that the rental required payment. But if that is the case, then yes, it is frankly quite ridiculous for such an inexpensive item.
Shouldn’t they rent switch as well? Prefer to play my switch in portable mode anyway and to do other activities at hotel rooms
I hope they'll expand this rental service globally, because I haven't seen first party docks in stock anywhere in years.
@dimi The issue is more people want to play their OWN switch, not some pre-loaded switch with games they may or may not want to play - but they also don't want to have to lug their dock and HDMI cord and all those plugs and dongles to make it work with whatever the hotel has…
Reminds me a bit of hotel's Sharp TVs with SNES integrated
❌️I REFUSE to put my Switch in someone else's Dock!!! 🤢
Gutted a dock and placed it in a tiny she'll ages ago. Still serves me quite well to this day.
@marandahir The Dock is tiny and there's "all those" two cables required.
Like, if it's so hard to find space and "lug" a switch dock, your biggest issue isn't that the hotel doesn't provide one.
I take a miniature dock with me whenever I leave town anyway. It's super tiny.
