Update Thu 24th Feb, 2022 10:30 GMT: The free update with the new sets is available to download now. More details below...
Monster Hunter Rise is still consistently providing regular free updates in the form of quests, various armors and weapons, along with a smaller number of paid DLCs. The latest batch will arrive in version 3.9 this week on 24th February, with the free update designed to help newer players get started.
As you can see in the trailer above it'll include a set of 'Defender' weapons, a 'Black Belt' armor set and the 'Veteran's Talisman', all designed to give you a helping hand early in the game. This official page gives a detailed lowdown.
This week's update will also bring some paid DLC; like all previous non-free content it's optional cosmetics, in this case voice packs for two characters - Selva and Paz.
If you like the character designs but don't necessarily want to splash out for the voice packs, Capcom has provided customisation details on its website to recreate them.
Selva
Paz
Some nice additions to come this week, then, in particular the free weapons and armor if you're still early in the game.
Now we really need to get the main campaign cleared before the release of the Sunbreak expansion in the Summer.

It would be cool if a portion of the money from those voice packs goes to the actual voice actors of the characters, that would be really classy.
At first I thought we were getting Metal Gear crossover again after all these years, seeing Paz. Lol
@VR32X That would be the bomb. Heh.
Woah, that is some beefy customization! I had no idea this game had that
@Fizza i think they are already paid for the job, and like with films, they can get a share from sales if there is a contract.
You have to pay money for some extra voices. That is ripoff no matter the price.
Hmm voice over paid DLC..that's a new one. Almost a good of a deal as horse armor.
Nothing of interest here!
Really need some more interesting dlc!
Not sure the armor and weapons will be helpful for experienced hunters, but free stuff and support for this amazing game is always appreciated.
With all the fuss that game journalists give microtransactions and COD pay-to-win mechanics in the video game industry, I'm surprised they haven't given Capcom sh*t for being the only publisher that locks character customization behind a pay once per voucher in order to change your characters physical appearance.
This isn’t new.
No idea why people here acting like this a new thing suddenly. If you actually look at the Rise dlc there is a bunch of “voice dlc” already from the core cast for your Hunter. With every free patch of content Rise gets they trickle in some paid dlc which usually includes the voices among other stuff
That said that dub voice for the idol girl is horrible. At least you don’t have to hear that if your in Japanese or MH language
by any chance is there a Monster Hunter pass, that just gives me every DLC up to this point? never liked having DLC all over the place. give me individual and pass options
I really know nothing about MH, because "voice" DLC sounds weird and not enticing to me.
Vaal Hazak voiced by a zombie. With new paid Zombie Voice DLC! What, NFT's weren't ready yet Capcom?
@benjo Its actually meant for newcomers to help them get to high rank or those who started a new save file.
@russell-marlow Because all the key stuff you would want to change like hair and make up is done for free. You're so decked out in armour that 99% of the time you're never going to see the part what costs. The reason MH gets a free pass is because they give out a ton of free stuff.
@blindsquarel They give you a ton of free content so does it matter if they charge money to make your character sound like another one?
You know what I would pay for? A new monster. Even if it's an elemental variant of an excisting one.
@WallyWest
I mean not really. Still doesn’t make it a good way to spend your money.
@blindsquarel Then don't spend it, its not like they shove it down your throat.
@WallyWest
I’m not it is a ripoff. Just saying paying money to get a voice pack for your character is not a good deal. Rise is a great game, but it doesn’t give them a free pass on this.
@blindsquarel I mean, yeah, you're not wrong, the price may be pretty high for that. Maybe for some people it might be worth it, if they really love that voice and want to enjoy it for the multiple hundreds of hours that you can easily spend in this game. But since this still doesn't give the player any advantage over others and is nothing that is actively thrown in your face more often than a few times now that it just released, I don't think it's anything scandalous to a point where they'd need "a free pass on this", lol
@Zimon Great news, then. In summer, you can pay to probably about double the number of monsters, equipment and almost anything else in the game. That's what the expansion MHRise Sunbreak is about
@fighting_game_player Not exactly, but if you really want all available cosmetic DLCs, they release some packs on the eShop that bundle each released wave of that cosmetic DLC up.
I still miss my master sword and hylian shield
I was surprised to find in the language settings of MHR there's English, Japanese, and Monster Hunter Language - which I learned was voiced by the Japanese voice cast and consists mostly of grunts and other made up words from the previous games.
I'm sure it's not as complex as like "Klingon" or "Elvish" but I thought it was pretty cool they even did all that voicework for a made up language. Really adds to the world building.
MH Language is my preferred language so the voice doesn't really matter, only really the pitch and tone and even then I barely notice it.
@WallyWest What a lame excuse. Never once considered that there are players that play with fewer armor pieces and just want to see their character's face?
@russell-marlow All the main facial features one would want to change can be changed for free.
@WallyWest ... Per save file.
Once you make progress in a save file and want to adjust your characters nose, mouth, or eyebrows, you have to pay real money in order to make adjustments on a single save file.
