The Nintendo Switch version of Tetris Effect: Connected received another update last week - bumping it up to Version 1.2.6.
The official support page has now shared the full details - revealing optimisations to the overall visual quality and performance. Apart from this, there are also a number of fixes and new additions. Here are the full details:
Tetris Effect: Connected - Version 1.2.6 (16th November 2021)
——–PATCH NOTES V1.2.6 ——–
[SWITCH] Optimized overall visual quality and performance.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue in JOURNEY MODE, where framerate dropped severely in certain stages (e.g. YIN & YANG) at the very start of the stage.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue where online matchmaking may fail when resuming from sleep.
[SWITCH] Adjusted sensitivity for analog sticks (Joy-Con) and Pro Controller.
[SWITCH] Added OFFLINE MODE under OPTIONS > GAMEPLAY to minimize error messages when playing JOURNEY MODE and EFFECT MODES in Airplane Mode or when playing without a network connection when this option is enabled.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue where the scores did not register to the rankings in certain cases while playing JOURNEY MODE and EFFECT MODES and resuming from sleep.
[SWITCH] Fixed an issue in LOCAL MATCH where the rumble could become weaker on the additional controllers when playing with multiple controllers.
[ALL] Fixed an issue in MULTIPLAYER where the default camera position was more zoomed out when OPTIONS > GAMEPLAY > ADJUSTABLE CAMERA was OFF.
[ALL] Fixed an issue in CONNECTED / CONNECTED VS where the game could softlock when a player topped out and entered the ZONE at the same time.
[ALL] Fixed an issue in LOCAL MATCH where assigning an action to UP or DOWN on an analog stick in PLAYER OPTIONS > CUSTOMIZE CONTROLS still also would cause the camera to zoom in or out (along with the new action).
Other minor adjustments and bug fixes.
OTHER
[SWITCH] Changing Nintendo Switch system clock to a future time and posting scores in online multiplayer and then resetting it back could prevent your scores from updating in online multiplayer. Please do not change the system clock when playing online multiplayer.

Very cool. I haven't really had any issues to date, but it's good they're trying to make this amazing game as good as it possibly can be on the Switch.
Waiting for a physical release
Performance already seemed good to me, but maybe I'll use this as an excuse to take a Pokemon break and play some Tetris.
[SWITCH] We forgot to also port Rez Infinite, so here it is.
“[SWITCH] Optimized overall visual quality and performance.“
I remember a time when we got detailed patch notes. Now we have the above. Let’s see how long before the “patch notes” read something like, “It’s better than before”.
That aside, Tetris Effect is a fantastic game and, having played it on both PS4 and Switch, the Switch version holds up very well.
Mine says it's up to date, at v. 1.04
@Falien Does it run better on PS4 perhaps, than Switch? The graphics? On which console are better? I am asking because it is Tetris but it is full of graphics and effects and maybe on PS4 it's better. But then again, maybe we cannot tell a difference..
VR is really the only way to play this, it's absolutely gorgeous with the crazy visuals all around you.
Easily one of the best Switch games
Perfect puzzle game. A gaming dream come true, really.
Long overdue for games to step up too!
Q: Why do puzzle games have to look and sound so cheap and crappy?
A: THEY DON'T HAVE TO.
Lumines, Bittos+ (wiiware), Puzzle&Dragons and of course Puzzle League (Planet version probably) have come close... but TE rules them all for the time being.
"[SWITCH] Adjusted sensitivity for analog sticks (Joy-Con) and Pro Controller."
Honestly, this needs to be done for other Switch games as well, like in Mario Party Superstars being the most recent example for me. It's so annoying to move right in a minigame, then all of the sudden I move left when I let go of the stick, causing me to lose constantly. -.-
Did this every have a Physical release??
I just always stuck with Tetris 99 on the Switch, after they added the single player DLC it satisfied my casual Tetris needs. It also just works with the Switch a lot better. It makes far better use of the screen space (vital for a handheld) and overall it just isn't so busy and flashy, more focused on the actual game.
I really enjoyed Tetris Effect when I originally got it on the PS4, but it's a game that feels like it belongs there.
@nkarafo
I have only played Tetris Effect on Switch prior to this update. The performance for me was good, but not great. It is perfectly playable, but there were instances where you could feel the performance wasn't as perfect as in Tetris 99, which feels more precise overall, especially at high speeds. I am happy they are trying to fix it and will be curious to see if it is better now.
@nkarafo I remember reading graphical elements took a hit on Switch so maybe this upgrade will bring it more inline. I love this game and do like that it’s on Switch (my main console), but agree @jayj that it’s not quite a perfect fit and does align w PS more, while 99 feels so concise and focused for the handheld experience especially.
Any idea what the performance is like?
Hopefully, it runs 60 fps.
@geox30 Same here. 1.0.4 “You are using the latest version of this software.”
@geox30 I just checked mine and it said it was up to date on ver. 1.0.4 too
Can someone please verify if they updated to said version?
@Falien What more do you want said there? They found a way to optimise something that could improve the visuals and performance, what more exactly do you want to know? They've not adjusted anything they've tweaked some values and removed some redundancies in code to make things run more smoothly and look better.
@Ogbert
Well firstly, it's not likely the detail for the change was simply that they 'tweaked values and removed redundancies' to 'improve visual quality'...
But anyway, to answer your question...How about they define what they mean by visual quality. Was it resolution of textures? Frame rate? Colour fidelity? Improvements to shadows, Polygon counts, video filters, ray tracing.. list goes on.
"Offline mode" is the best thing ever. It was such a pain getting error messages and having the game try to find a connection EVERY SINGLE TIME you play !
@FTL I mean that is likely what they did. It's unlikely textures are higher res unless they have found a way to make optimisations elsewhere. Ray-tracing? Yeah sure if they added that to a Switch game they definitely wouldn't be shouting about it. This is a terms to encompass all manner of tiny little tweaks they made here and there that overall improves things. If they were anything huge like adding ray-tracing, increasing framerate or upping the poly-count (it's more likely to be reducing it, but in a way that you won't see), they'd highlight that in a bigger point elsewhere. This is common practice and has been for some time.
I want them to add better multi channel sound.
@nkarafo I’d say it runs just as well on Switch, with some expected reduction in graphics detail. Specifically, the resolution seems lower (I am not sure if there is any dynamic resolution scaling, but on handheld mode it seems to be slightly below native 720p) and some effects (pun not intended) are of lower quality - most noticeably some objects fade in/fade out using a dithering method. Another thing I noticed is that all cubes that make up the dropped pieces seem to automatically face in the same direction, while on PS4 they face whichever way they were facing when the piece was dropped and there is a periodic “wave” effect that straightens them. However, the framerate is definitely 60 fps, with some very small dips during some stage transitions. All in all it’s a great version of the game.
@Ogbert Something like e.g. “improved particle effects, reduced input lag, reduced framerate drops in stage select screen, increased resolution in docked mode” - that sort of thing.
My gripe is not with the Tetris Effect developer specifically, it’s a general dissatisfaction with modern “patch notes” - I believe they should be as detailed as possible, especially given the contemporary “launch now, patch later” development ideology. At worst, you get things like Spotify, whose “patch notes” have been the same for practically years now; something along the lines of “we’re always making optimizations and improvements, please use automatic updates to always have the best version”, while they add/remove features at will.
If we stop caring about patch notes, it’s a step towards not caring about overall quality, and this is why we get abysmal launches like the GTA Trilogy “Definitive” edition.
@Falien Thank you my friend.
