Dogworld arrived relatively recently (during the Summer) on the eShop, a retro-styled '1-Bit' action platformer in which you "shoot, jump, and slide your way through a ruined, mysterious, dog-filled world". It's now the latest download title to get the limited release treatment from Super Rare Games, with details now available on the package and orders.
You can take a look below; it's due to go on sale with a 3000 copy run on 28th October at 10am PT / 1pm ET / 6pm BST / 7pm CEST, via the Super Rare Games website.
In typical Super Rare Games tradition, this rare print physical release includes all the current content on its cart, a full-colour manual, interior artwork, an exclusive sticker, and trading cards. Fans won't have long to wait, as Super Rare Games titles ship soon after going on sale.
Shoot, jump, and slide your way through a ruined, mysterious, dog-filled world as you fight to save humanity from the clutches of a rogue AI named Daddy. Part action-platformer, part 2D Metroidvania/shooter, Dogworld is a satisfying retro romp well that you'll want to pet again and again.
It looks like a neat game to explore on the eShop or if you're a collector of Switch physical copies; it somewhat passed us by in a busy Summer but has a solid set of user reviews on Steam, for example.
Let us know if you're tempted to pick this up.

Aww. No thanks. Superrare has been a bit of a miss this year for me. I've only purchased 2 titles this year. Maybe next month =)
That’s not 1 bit. There shouldn’t be any colours.
@nessisonett yea there should just be a blank screen, like false advertising man
I feel like over the past year, Super Rare has just been putting out the games Limited Run won't bother with.
@nessisonett Well, there should only be two colours: Black and white in this case. Or it could be red and green, or yellow and pink, or . . .
Like this: https://lospec.com/palette-list/tag/1bit
1-bit means two colours, and that could be any two colours.
Here there's black, white and some red.
So, yeah, it's technically not 1-bit.
@impurekind Well…. depends on your definition of colour I guess. I meant more that any sort of RGB would be a colour. So yeah, black and white should be it. Dithering to achieve grey.
Actually, also you’re not quite right about it being able to be any two colours. You’d need at least 4 bits to represent colours like red, green, blue etc. 2 bits would add light and dark grey to your black and white.
@nessisonett True. I mean, black and white aren't even technically proper colours. But in terms of 1-bit colour, or 1-bit graphics, they get a pass.
"1-bit color: 2 colors, often black and white (or whatever color the CRT phosphor was) direct color. Sometimes 1 meant black and 0 meant white, the inverse of modern standards. Most of the first graphics displays were of this type, the X window system was developed for such displays, and this was assumed for a 3M computer. In the late 80's there were professional displays with resolutions up to 300dpi (the same as a contemporary laser printer) but color proved more popular." - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Color_depth#1-bit_color
@impurekind Not true, in the light spectrum, black isn't a color because it is the absence of light, and white is all of the colors put together. It's why you see a myriad of colors when you shine white light through a prism or lens.
Have to agree with others - it's been spotty for Super Rare since around summer 2020. Exhibit A: Monster Prom, which is still available to purchase. Hopefully they have better things to come. Horace, for example, seems like the kind of game that deserves preservation.
Already have my big order so not worries for now...
@Emmerichcoal I've only purchased 2 titles this year.
Not everyone follows your lead. I think it's only because they are Sold Out-that one would make such statements. Most would be Sold Out if not for the Pandemic or other factors influencing the markets now. Those games otherwise would be only eShop options and most that buy SRG are for the Physical factor that will not be found except on eBay if not for Scalpers on eBay itself.
@Tourtus
For the purpose of colour information, you have to describe the image output in some format.
@HedgehogEngine I mean, I guess if you’re using DOS colours, cyan, magenta etc. This particular shade of red is too dark to be pure 100 though, looks more like 1001 4 bit colour to me.
@SwitchForce there was only 1 game that I would have purchased but I slept on it and missed out and that was Littlewood. But every other game was a big no for me. Then again, I only buy the games I would actually play. So they've been a huge miss for me. Limitedrun has surprised me quite a bit this year as I've already purchased 6 games from them.
The above conversation is why I love this place!
Looks like fun. I'm planning to try to buy it on the 28th. This game completely passed by me without my noticing it. Didn't know it was already out on Switch digitally. About 120 games come out a month on Switch. I wonder how many games there are total on the system right now, like 3,000? I also wonder how many physical games there are, maybe 1,100 including all regions? It's so crazy.
@HedgehogEngine Ah of course, properly looking at the trailer you’re spot on when it comes to alpha channels. They’re several bits off when you break it down 😂
@Tourtus See my comment right above your one. . . .
@impurekind That part wasn't there when I initially responded and I was talking about light and color not how a computer processes color.
"I mean, black and white aren't even technically proper colours." Is the bit I was focusing on.
@PBandSmelly Outside is the worst. The economy is poorly planned, microtransactions are everywhere, it's 100% pay to win and fast travel is completely broken. Literally unplayable.
@Tourtus They bit I said where they get a pass in this case was there, and is still true.
