October: it's the best month. It's Halloween, it's the start of Autumn proper, it's the month where we get a new Animal Crossing: New Horizons Direct, and it's my birthday the start of Scorpio season, which is objectively the best star sign.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a great place to celebrate the season, because it has growable pumpkins, plenty of spooky-themed decor items, and a general cottagecore vibe that players just can't get enough of. Plus, there are new Halloweeny items available today!
The new Halloween items are:
Spooky Trick Lamp
- Purchased from Nook's Cranny for 11,600 Bells
- Crafted from a DIY recipe with 4 Orange Pumpkins and 4 Iron Nuggets
- Can be customised with Orange, Yellow, Green, and White pumpkins
- Has doors on the front which open to reveal little vignettes
Spooky Treats Basket
- Purchased from Nook's Cranny for 10,000 Bells
- Crafted from a DIY recipe with 1 Orange Pumpkin and 2 Candy
- Can be customised with Orange, Yellow, Green, and White pumpkins, each with their own face (requires two of the right coloured pumpkins)
Spooky Tree
- Purchased from Nook's Cranny for 10,000 Bells
- Crafted from a DIY recipe with 5 Orange Pumpkins and 10 Hardwood
- Can be customised with Orange, Yellow, Green, and White pumpkins, each with their own face (the white version also makes the tree white)
You can read a little more about the Fall Update here, but all the items from last year will be returning, too. A few players (the ones who are okay with time-travel) have had these items for quite some time, but for those who play in real time, the season has only just officially begun...
ACNH fashionista Nicole has prepared some extremely cute seasonal clothes, including a little pumpkin hat:
And now, we wait to welcome Brewster into our lives and into The Roost, which will be coming to Animal Crossing: New Horizons next month. Forget Christmas, we celebrate BIRDMAS now.

I kinda wanna decorate my island for halloween now lol
I still have an entire spooky zone on my island, complete with pumpkin patch! I never took it down. And I put together a spooky room using all the items Jack gave me, and it's still my favorite thing in the entire game 🎃
Happy birthday Kate! You are not the only one... - 23 days till 30... ahum.... Make it a great new year!
Too bad the game isn't worth playing for those who aren't huge fans of decorating.
@VoidofLight I didn't love decorating in Animal Crossing at first, but I really got into it with New Horizons! The freedom and options made everything feel more personal.
...then I got my island the way I wanted to, and kinda just went "ok, I'm good," and haven't picked it up since
I really hope the new update adds more things to do in the game.
@VoidofLight,
Too bad you have to complain on every single Animal crossing horizons article, spouting the same rubbish there is nothing to do in the game, which is not true.
Excited about the tree. It's gonna add a whole new level of decorating for the Halloween season
@VoidofLight
Decorating your island is a fun activity to do.
Just try it and you might change your mind after get into that activity.
No need to keep spouting with same complain about ACNH.
I really wish holidays weren't reliant on updates. It sucks that you can't time travel to Halloween or Christmas to get items you missed.
What will happen when Nintendo stops updating the game? Will those items be unacquireable?
@Anti-Matter,
So true, when first revealed I thought I would not like the decorating mechanic, or not use it all that much, after 1400 hours how wrong I was.
gotta hand it to the direct, it got me to play NH again now that im hyping myself up for the updates. i really hope we get more actual features brought back. you can only make your own fun decorating the island for so long
@johnvboy
I really want a 2nd island as I want to have another 10 different villagers (My Top 11 - 20) and shape my 2nd island with different theme after watching terraforming / island tour videos from Youtube.
I have to wait until I could purchase another Nintendo Switch machine.
@CharlieGirl Agreed. I just hope these updates make the game playable for me, and worth the price I spent for the game itself. People are going to praise Nintendo for adding Brewster to New Horizons, but I personally don't see it worthy of the praise, mainly because he should've been there at launch.
@Anti-Matter I've decorated in the past, please quit trying to force me to like the game. I don't play these games for the decoration aspect entirely. Yes, we get that you play it for that reason, but people play games for different reasons and you're just trying to get me to conform to your own without understanding my position on the matter.
@VoidofLight,
You and others seem hell bent on explaining why people should not like this game, or are wrong to, even though you have no idea of these peoples own personal take on the game.
So why can't people give you possible reasons and ideas, so you can get more out of the game, because you clearly love and have a lot of passion for the franchise.
My island has a mixture of Halloween and Christmas decorations now.... Yes I know it's early for the latter Anyway, my favourite time of year and let's hope there are lots of big/good updates for this game to come??!!!!
It’s my daughter’s and my birthday this month. I’m restarting my island today. So excited for the direct.
@VoidofLight That’s too bad. I’m looking forward to decorating my island with a Fall/Halloween theme. What updates would need to be added for you to play again?
@shining_nexus Probably just adding more progression stuff, and more to sink bells into and unlock. More life sim elements like the cafe (but not only just the cafe), and multiplayer content that isn't just visiting people's towns.
Oh lol Kate, i didn't know you were also Scorpio. Best sign, agreed.
@VoidofLight They could definitely improve the life sim portions a lot more. Having more activities to do with villagers is something I would like to see.
One thing that bothered me about multiplayer was the inability to help friends with decorating. I would have spent more time online with family and friends if that was possible.
Time to jump back in!
