In Nintendo's latest financial report, the company reconfirmed a number of upcoming Switch releases due out later this year.
One other game that's also still on target for 2021 is Niantic's Pikmin mobile title. According to Nintendo, the Pokémon GO style game will be launching in the second half of the year.
"In our mobile business, we will focus on continuing to operate the applications that we have released to date, along with the application featuring Pikmin from Niantic that is planned for the second half of 2021, and work on ways to encourage more consumers to continue to enjoy playing these applications."
Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto previously shared some insight about what to expect from this new "walking" title:
“Niantic’s AR technology has made it possible for us to experience the world as if Pikmin are secretly living all around us. Based on the theme of making walking fun, our mission is to provide people a new experience that’s different from traditional games. We hope that the Pikmin and this app will become a partner in your life.”
In somewhat related news, Nintendo reported increased income from its stake in Pokémon GO. Read more about this.

Will this one also implement a ton of useful safety features only to just remove them at a really bad time?
👍, Pikmin 4 is looking good!
Oh my god I forgot all about this game! 😲
A 2021 release date? Heh, good luck.
Remember when everyone was reporting that Pikmin 4 was ‘ready to go’? Those were the days.
@nessisonett Yeah. It were so finalized that they decided to release Pikmin 3 again 6 years late.
Pokemon Go were pure crap. Uninstalled after 5 minutes on release.
Hopefully Pikmin is better.
It’s a very simplistic “walk around” game. You grow Pikmin and flowers, collect seeds and fruit and level up doing simple tasks (grow Pikmin, walk, plant so many flowers). Needs a bit more content to flesh it out, there’s a Pokéstop feature yet to come though. But at the very least, it’s got enjoyable music.
@nessisonett didn’t it already release for the 3DS? 🙈
As walking simulators go, I would imagine this will be quite authentic.
I love how they're calling this an application and not a game. Besides SMR and Miitomo, their other mobile outings never gained any long term interest for me. Creating unique and fun experiences are what they do well. Looking forward to this one and trying it out on my walks.
4 seems to be an unlucky number for Nintendo.
Enjoy Splatoon 3, because 4 will be delayed into perpetuity.
@Longondo they prioritise mobile over consoles hilarious! But they did do the same with animal crossing too prior to its switch release.
@GrailUK no you can pay for "suprise mechanics" while you go for a nice stroll! Brilliant 😂😂
I can already see myself using it.
“THIS JUST IN, a man has been found trespassing on multiple properties all through the city, police have caught him, and he says his motive was and I quote, ‘Ok but look at my pikmin’ “
Well if this will mean we get another console game, similar to what happened with Pokemon and Animal Crossing, then I don't mind even if I have absolutely no interest at all. And frankly they obviously are working on Pikmin stuff considering the great sales success of Pikmin 3DX
I am curious how this is gonna work. I don't see how to turn Pikmin into PoGo. But maybe I will be surprised.
Though I won't be giving them 2+ years of updates to make the game playable. Hopefully they learned from their past.
I'll play it, hopefully it can make me hooked.
Pikmin 4 when, Nintendo? 🥺😒
