Update #3 [Thu 29th Apr, 2021 11:35 BST]: The western release date has been changed again – but it's good news! The previously proposed release date of May 27th has been changed to May 20th.
Update #2 [Fri 16th Apr, 2021 01:00 BST]: If you've been wondering what's going on with the release of Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash, apparently its launch has been delayed in North America and Europe.
While the development team didn't reveal exactly why this has happened, it's now been confirmed by the game's producer that it will arrive closer to the end of next month on 27th May. Here's the full update:
Update [Fri 2nd Apr, 2021 07:35 BST]: Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash is now available on the Switch eShop in Japan and will arrive in Europe and North America on 15th April (see the latest update). There'll be a free version and you'll be able to upgrade to the paid version - offering a total of 18 playable fighters and more modes - for roughly $25 USD (thanks, EventHubs).
Original Story [Sun 21st Feb, 2021 23:55 GMT]: Japanese video game developer and publisher Arika has announced it'll be releasing Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash on the Nintendo Switch in 2021.
The original version of this title was first released on the PlayStation 4 in 2018 and since then has been ported across to multiple other devices. It's considered to be a spiritual sequel to Fighting Layer (1998) as well as the Street Fighter EX series (1996).
Arika says Another Dash will be "different" from the existing release Fighting EX Layer. Characters have been adjusted, moves revised and new fighting systems put in place. This also includes different netcode.
Here's an explanation, courtesy of Gematsu:
"Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash uses backstep interrupt netcode based on delay netcode. Since input delay is disguised as variable frames for several frames, in cases of extreme delays, the character’s position may be corrected. Sometime after release, Arika hopes to replace the netcode with “The Best of Both Games” netcode, which is currently in testing and based on rollback netcode."
More information about Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash for Nintendo Switch will be shared on 1st April.

Don't set this out you guys! If you like fighters, this game is excellent!
This explains why roughly half of the characters in the Street Fighter EX series were never seen in any other Street Fighter games. This accounts for SFEX's unusual music too.
This is better than ANY announcement from the direct.
Day 1 for me and it should be for anyone who loves 1 on 1 fighters.
@NinjaWaddleDee I'm sure it will be great for modern fighting game enthusiasts who give it a try. Unfortunately for me, my reflexes have never been fast enough to handle the more technical fighting games where counters and extensive combos are crucial. If I can rent this though, I think I'll give it a try.
I'm sure I'll check it out, but I don't play fighters enough to add another one to my repertoire. I'd be better served by focusing on the ones I already play. (Plus Tatsunoko vs. Capcom; I just found a decently priced copy on eBay.)
Chuffed to bits this is coming to Switch. SOLD!
This is fantastic. Last one I played was eX3 on ps2 I think. Garuda. Skullomania
Good stuff, always nice to see another fighting game come over to switch. I never played the SF EX games, but was always interested in those characters.
Definitely wasn't expecting this announcement. I've been playing it a bit on PC and it's decent. Glad the Switch is getting another fighter!
As I said in the fighting game thread, I am looking forward to playing this!
Terry Bogard from Fatal Fury will be in this too.
@DrDaisy This game is actually quite casual friendly, which is why I enjoy it. I wouldn't buy this for playing online though, as it isn't exactly as well populated as say Street Fighter, or Mortal Kombat.
I have this on PS4. It’s good game. Couldn’t really find any online matches with this though.
I'm always down for more fighters on the Switch!
That's pretty much street fighter ex without capcom
I love all the Street Fighter EX games so to see this coming to Switch is a win to me. Can't wait to try Kairi, Pullum, Cracker Jack, Darun, Garuda, Skullomania, and D. Dark again.
The best Street Fighter EX game never made
Great to see this one branching out to more platforms
Streeeeeet Fighter EX!!!! (Plus Alpha). Wonder what Skullo’s been up to all these years, I think I shall check this out.
Anyone else notice that we'll get more details on "April 1st?"
Maybe wait until April 2nd to see if the info is legit.
@Zochmenos Is the "just about" part in case something like Dual Heroes or Xena: The Talisman of Fate come to Switch?
@Kiwi_Unlimited Fighting EX Layer is well known as Arika's mega troll where they announced it as a fake game on April 1st for April fools then revealed that it's not a fake game at all.
Arika is a bizarre company.
I wish they announced a fake Endless Ocean for me...
At first i was like, okay another unknown fighting game....
Then i watched the trailer!!!!!! Holy moly this looks amazing! 😱 I never heard of this game, but i want it today.
Another quality fighter on the Switch. I'll take that!
Nice see this game on switch. And even better see it with a system better. More players will want play this version.
This game puts SFV to shame and made with a fraction of Capcom's budget. About time this comes to the Switch, I will gladly re-buy it (I've waited years until I gave in to a STEAM sale last December). Plus: Skullomania on the Switch? Triple sold!
Awesome, the Switch really needs more fighting games that aren't ports of 90's stuff.
@Varkster
Now that IS fantastic!
Hoping this comes with all characters, DLC etc.
I'm not a fan of the buying the base game without its full compliment of characters, then having to pay for additional releases.
This has been out for a good while so it would be nice to get the definitive, all-singing, all-dancing version for the Switch, right out of the gate.
That's hot, can't wait.
Unfortunately the embedded trailer shows the PS4 version and although the Switch version still runs at 60fps the visuals have suffered massively
Got my eshop credit ready!
Holy smokes, Batman! Great news, I had to double check it wasn't April 1st anymore
"Another Dush"
@WrongChops The Switch version has all the characters from the PlayStation 4 version.
I’ve downloaded the demo from the Japanese store. It has four characters to use which you can play in arcade mode.
That's great, but how about a Dr Mario game... on the latest dedicated Nintendo hardware.
I've never got to touch a Street Fighter EX game, this might be worth checking out
@Bass_X0 How does it play? Are the graphics as rough as they look in the trailer?
Game seem like it runs great but the graphics feels like it took a downgrade a bit. The background visuals look less detail than the base version on PC. Hopefully the game is fun enough to overlook that. Nice that there's a free version to try before you could upgrade to the full version.
Interesting. Street Fighter EX is the only iteration of Street Fighter I've never played. Perhaps I'll give this a look.
@Bass_X0 okay!
@Kanbei Plays fine to me. There's no training mode in the demo, so I didn't practice the new abilities. I took Kairi through arcade mode and didn't notice any real issues with controls or graphics. Although, the graphics are a noticeable step down from the PS4 version, I wouldn't call them bad.
@Hadooken84 But can you sidestep?
@DrDaisy One "tip" that helped me get back into fighting games is that you don't actually need all that great of reflexes. Mine have gone waaaaay down in the past few years, lol, but I'm better at fighting games that ever.
It's because reflexes aren't as important as "match up knowledge." That means knowing enough about your opponent's character that you can PREDICT what they will do (instead of REACTING to them). It's actually not too hard, since most characters only have a 2-3 effective things they can do at any one time. Also, look up a video series on YouTube called, "Don't Mash, Think!" It's about Street Fighter, but can apply to all fighting games in general.
Great genre, all I play these days. Fighting EX Layer is a cool game, but I think the online portion will die out fast (or at least quickly be reduced to really good players that beat casuals down so hard it's simply not remotely fun), and the single player offerings are sparse.
yessssssssssss, this is an awesome game.
@OldManHermit it's really good.
today is 15th April... but no traces of the game (EU)
Well it's just a month delay, that's alright though I got plenty of games to spare until then.
I read this as Fighting Ex Lawyer.
That’s ok. I’m broke this month anyway.
Go to the japanese eShop and download it there. It's an excellent game and nobody should be forced to wait.
Now I see it never appeared yet in the Eshop.
It's alright, this might be way better than a buddy and fully messy launch
Oh, a nice surprise. I loved the EX series, will try out the free version of this for sure and go from there.
Really excited for this one. Looking forward to next month.
This port or version is really not very good, I know the graphical fidelity is going to be less but it's pretty rough.
@PhilKenSebben Go get it now from the japanese eshop.
@YANDMAN after hearing its a bit rough, I'll gladly wait a month so it hopefully gets a patch or two. Thanks tho!
@PhilKenSebben I mean it's free, so what have you got to lose?
@YANDMAN everything.
@PhilKenSebben I guess if you have nothing, but then you've nothing to loose also.
@YANDMAN Hey! Don't you out logic my crap-post answer/joke! That's against internet rules!
@PhilKenSebben I thought for a minute you hadn't realised, I will self ban for 14 days.
@YANDMAN you're a good lad.
@Bass_X0 Y..you serious?
i downloaded from japanese eshop on day1
I've played version 2.0 and it's super rough. No anti aliasing. They had to scale a lot back to hit the 60fps target.
Maybe they're having trouble getting the game to a satisfactory level
Will this have an extrnsive single player campaign like the modern Mortal Kombats, because if not theres really no incentive to buy at full price. Fighters gotta step up their game with single player story modes if they want a larger audience, appealing only to tournament fighters will not help it get mainstream success.
looks fun, but I only ever play fighters anymore with my friends because we all suck, going online is usually a miserable experience for me since I don't have the patience to lab four hours a day just to not get repeatedly juggled and corner combo'd to death.
This will be the closest we get to SFIV/V so yeah you bet I will get this.
@JimmySpades
Tatsunoko vs. Capcom is an awesome game
begging for a switch port
@ICISAZEL I suspect that the licensing would be such a nightmare that it's essentially impossible. (If I understand correctly Japanese rights holders let licenses expire and never renew them more frequently than western companies, so the fact that it has happened before doesn't actually make it more likely to happen again.)
