Brian Matt - the voice of the original announcer for the Super Monkey Ball games - is at it again seemingly teasing some sort of exciting news related to Sega's long-time series.
In an Instagram post on 8th September - showing the voice actor playing Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD on a friend's Switch, Brian mentioned how this month would "be amazing for what's to come". Noticeably the post included tags for Sega and Nintendo Switch.
Playing a friend’s Switch. SuperMonkeyBall of course! I need to stop shouting out “Ready, Go!” You all understand. September will be amazing for what’s to come.
So what could be happening later this month? Followers of Brian seem to think a Monkey Ball game could be revealed.
This follows on from a comment Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi made in June, when he said he would "try to do Monkey Ball more" as he's heard it has a good reputation in the west, and comments from Brian - suggesting he had recorded lines for a new Monkey Ball game.
Sega has already confirmed it will be at this year's (online) Tokyo Game Show, which runs from 24th - 27th September. According to its schedule, there'll be a special 60th-anniversary event on 25th September and "other live stream broadcasts" bringing viewers the latest information. Maybe we'll hear something then?

I wouldn't expect a new Monkey Ball, but more a remastered version of 1 and 2 with additional stuff. That would be absolutely amazing!
An announcement about an announcement, enough with these rumours NL
STOP MESSING WITH ME DAMMIT!
Just give me the first two games, no gameplay changes, and a Switch and PC release as soon as possible.
If you're going to make the series terrible then at least give us access to the classics.
Sega's going the Konami route - Super Monkey Ball Pachinko inbound!
The first two games remastered please (as others are saying). Worried this will be the adapted 3DS game, lol
A re-release or remaster of the first game would be great 😊
If rumors are true, this would apparently be a "return to form" for the series. If so... PLEASE BE TRUE. The original two games are still two of my personal favorite arcade-like games to play, especially in multiplayer.
Watch it just be confirmation of the double pack which was previously leaked.
Either this is going to be a good year for Monkey Ball fans or Brian Matt is the biggest troll ever.
@Cyberbotv2 Id actually rather have a remaster then a new game at this point. I don't trust Sega to do it justice.
Number 1 remastered would be a dream for me!!!
Remaster AND a new game please.
@NinjaWaddleDee Same! Let M2 create Sega Ages: Super Monkey Ball
I’d be gen happy with a HD Super Monkey Ball 2 ... as long as it contained all the mini games
If they do a remaster, would he even be re-recording his lines? Can’t they just reuse his old ones?
Even if it’s a new game, surely they can reuse the old Ready Go?
Why in the world would anyone want a port over a new monkey ball game, everyone is loving these boring ports of old games, I like the old games too but it's getting really annoying of all the ports, I want a new monkey ball game
I honestly don't think today's mainstream gaming audience would actually dig 1 and 2 re-released. It's too hard and challenging for them (bless em). So I would hope it's a new game*, gathering up all the multiplayer games, new levels featuring some of the older levels with a more accessible progression. I mean, folk will complain they can't play the master modes after paying for the yadda yadda yadda (wipes vomit from mouth)
*No I don't. I hope SEGA ignore them and make it true to it's roots O.<
@geni53yr7 In this particular case, I’d say it’s because many people believe Monkey Ball hasn’t been good since the second game and don’t think they can or will make a good one again. I’m sure we’d all love a great new Monkey Ball game, but it’s a lot safer and more realistic to go with 1 and 2.
1 and 2 were amazing. Didn't listen to the doomsayers about Banana Blitz and got it anyway aaaaand I wish I did listen to them. It's not terrible but just not the first 2... which were amazing! I would love the first 2 games again.
@geni53yr7 because a new monkeyball game may be too much like Banana Blitz.... or worse.
yesssss pleaseeeeeee I need monkey ball directly to my veins thanks
I'm just hoping for a remaster of the first two games. If it's something new, I really hope it's in the spirit of the original. I bought Banana Blitz, but it never really clicked the way the original did. The series really lost its way somewhere along the line. I still play the first game regularly on my GameCube, so I know the series has the potential to be great.
Monkey ball 1&2 remaster would be perfect
Hopefully this is true and we get the good Monkey Ball games this time, awesome mini games in those as well
For the love of all that’s good and holy, just say it’s a remaster of 1&2. That’s it. That’s all I need.
Imagine a world where we get Mario Sunshine on Switch but still no sign of Super Monkey Ball 1 and 2.
They dont need a remake... just port them over already!
I found Banana Blitz dreadful - the boss battles completely ruined the single player game for me, and the mini games were such a disappointment.
If this rumoured September announcement is a new game, I have to say my expectations are low unless its literally Super Monkey Ball 3 and finally returns to its roots.
(Also, I always found the announcer voice annoying but maybe that's just me!)
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz HD for the Switch was alright I guess, it was the first (and only) game I've played in the series. Having said that, I probably would spend money on a new game, if for nothing else then Monkey Ball is a video game series the girlfriend actually likes (legit outside of Animal Crossing: New Horizons, it's her favourite game).
Super Monkey Ball 1 & 2 needs a Gamecube controller. I've triedplaying them on Xbox and PS2 but they don't feel right at all. A simple port. wont do, they need to make sure it feels right.
You think they’d tell him to not say anything? Either that or they let him do it on purpose. 🧐
@Cyberbotv2
You can’t see me but I’m throwing my Credit Card at the screen
It could be something or nothing. For all we know the guy is just telling the world he's having fun playing the game.
I don't think it'll be a remaster, but I do hope it's good. I've only played 2 but would love a new solid entry
@hadrian I cannot agree with you enough. It needs Gamecube controller support to be able to lock directions.
After all, I'm really excited to hear more about this! The announcer has dropped some hints, but I'm not able to guess how the game might function, but it gives me vibes that it's like a freenium game, which I really hoppe it's not the case.
Here's hoping to! I still have on my roadmap to make custom levels for the gamecube title, and a new game would be cool!
please be like the first 2 please be like the first 2 please be like the first 2 please be like the first 2 please be like the first 2 please be like the first 2
Gotta imagine its the first 2, since most comments about Banana Splitz HD were "Awww, why can't we have the first 2 instead?".
If it's the first 2 games I'll be extremely happy
I would poison my entire family for remastered versions of 1 and 2 on Switch.
Those monkeys have the strangest ears.
Hope it will be monkey ball 1&2 and a proper monkey ball 3
I bet he joins Smash Bros Ultimate lol
Please a port of Super Monkey Ball Deluxe.
what I really want is vanilla monkeyball.
That game is so pure.
