Yet another new tour is on the way to Mario Kart Tour this week, and it looks set to add three new characters for players to pick up.
Serving as the last tour of the year, the 'Holiday Tour' is due to kick off from 10pm PT on 17th December (so that's 6am GMT the following morning). As you can see in the promotional image posted above, we can expect to see Yoshi (Reindeer) and Pauline (New Year's) taking to the track, and you might just be able to make out Birdo on the left-hand side. Nothing gets past us.
Mario Kart Tour was recently voted as one of the 'best casual games' of 2019 by Google Play and secured the honour of being Apple's most-downloaded game of the year. It turns out the appetite is absolutely there for a mobile Mario Kart, even if some elements have been a little less welcome.
Do you regularly load up the game? Are you still yet to try it out? Let us know in the comments below.

I know this game gets a lot of hate but I’m enjoying it a lot. Excited to (hopefully) get Reindeer Yoshi and that sleigh.
I really hope they bring all these new characters and ideas (like weekly ranked cups and reverse/turbo track remixes) to the next console game (minus micro transactions and gacha mechanics).
To quote a Sonic meme, "That's interesting, but I sure don't care!"
@justin233 As long your not stupid enough to buy anything in it, yeah it's pretty good, I like how there's alot of new stuff to unlock and getting the coins actually mean something, plus if you do well on the week ranking, your get even more rubies
and same I hope MK9 has these features minus the micro transactions like CTR is doing now
@justin233 I agree. I really enjoy this game too. The roster truly is one of the best and thats undeniable. It might have a lot of costume characters but boy are the costumes diverse as well as the return of old and new characters, like Pauline, Birdo and Diddy Kong! I really hope these get carried over to make a massive roster!
Been playing this since day 1. Love it.
Serious Nintendo, bring these things to mario kart deluxe or bring mario kart 9 that gets the same treathment or better.
Also bring the remix track system to MK9
Hoping to score the Pauline alt or 2020 kart.
Please put this stuff in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. Or Mario Kart 9 if that's in development. This stuff has no business staying mobile exclusive- we need it in an actually good Mario Kart game. I would absolutely love to play as Reindeer Yoshi! ..but I refuse to let Mario Kart Tour contaminate my phone.
Kinda wish cool characters like Pauline and Birdo would make it to Mario kart 8 deluxe. Honestly wouldn’t care if they made dlc. I’d buy it in a heartbeat.
Why isn't Birdo and Pauline in MK8D? I get that MK8D is a completely new game if you didn't have the Wii U but I played it tons on Wii U and while I enjoyed the new battle mode, I want more charcaters and tracks. I would happily pay another £40 for a meaty expansion or £60 for a new game. Im not downloading another Nintendo gacha for a chance to play this content.
Pauline looks very derpy in that picture.
I missed the "Tour" part.
I wish Nintendo would support their real games this well.
@ClassSonicSatAm you can call people stupid but maybe they just want to support a product that developers and publishers put time and money into with an expectation that they make money back. And say what you want and you will but it's a free to play game so maybe it doesn't make sense tp crtitizize the people who support the the game and keep it alive for people who don't pay a dime and enjoy playing it. Also for some people who want to complain about the quality of the game ,again it's free to play and it's on a cell phone. Two things combined that were always going to limit what it could be. Idk the main thing that urks me is how I've supported a dozen mobile games over the years with at minimum 5 dollar purchace and I'm 10 percent if that of people who put money into these games keeping it alive unlike the rest of the people who play it.And you're calling me stupid if I put money in into these games.Just because you can find a way not to pay doesn't mean someone's stupid maybe they just want to support the game because if you or other people are not going to support these free to pay games fine whatever do what you want. But for us"Whales" it means we're constantly getting squeezed for more of our money which we're fine with paying.Which allows most of these games to continue at least.Yor not Better than us just because you don't pay for anything and we're not better than you so not just you but anyone else who spilled crap out of their map like that just know I absolutley belive in True Freedom of Speech but know these are my critisisisisms of your critizisisisisms and I ask that you reflect on that.
Anyone that spends $40 for 30 rubies, and a character you can get for free is stupid.
Mario Kart needs Donkey Kong characters: Dixie Kong, Funky Kong, Cranky Kong and King K. Rool
I have mixed feelings about this. On one hand, it's nice to see Nintendo supporting one of its most popular IPs consistently and generously. On the other, it's a phone game.
Meanwhile, the Switch has yet to receive its very own Mario Kart title. We're approaching 3 years into the Switch's lifespan, and we have a Wii U port. This is especially puzzling when you consider Nintendo developed a Mario Kart for each console and handheld since the SNES. It's even on phones! Why is the console responsible for putting Nintendo back on the map after a generation of failure left with a port? Curious stuff.
If it isn't in Mario Kart Deluxe, it didn't happen.
I really like Reindeer Yoshi and the sled kart. I hope they put it into MK9. Mario Kart Tour doesn't interest me.
@jtmnm MK8 Deluxe likely still counts towards Nintendo's "1 Mario Kart per console" approach and the decision of port likely came down to release date. MK8 Deluxe launching 1 month after Switch launch is more helpful to the chance of Switch success than a MK9 coming out like 2 years after launch on a potentially dead platform.
@Grumblevolcano Thing is, Nintendo has never re-released a Mario Kart before. Every system up till now has had brand new Mario karts, but never a port. And since MK8 is about 5 years old now, perhaps they are beginning to look into a new Mario Kart installment. (And I know MK8 is still selling like hot cakes, but so has Mario Kart Wii for the past 10 years. Not to mention that almost everyne and their grandma owns MK8 Deluxe by now. So releasing a brand new title down the line would rake in money from people who already bought Mk8, but are hyped for the next experience.
@patbacknitro18 I think it all comes down to when the successor is, no Nintendo system since Mario Kart was introduced so far has had its successor come out later than 6 years after launch. So if that is true for the Switch, Nintendo would likely feel that MK9 as a launch window title for the successor would be more useful than as a late Switch release especially as MK8 Deluxe is still selling extremely well.
@Kirbyfan They are not in the base game, so the only way they could make it in is if they were DLC. Even if they were free.
@Grumblevolcano Again Mario Kart wii is still selling well, and was still selling amazingly when MK8 released. Not to mention the WiiU has already deemed a massive failure before MK8 came out, so by your logic, Nintendo shouldn't have even bothered making Mario kart 8. It's not about the sales figures alone, as those do not dictate what projects get made. Remember that Luigis Mansion 2 came out during the year of Luigi, which was the worst financial year Nintendo has had, it was an absolutely horrific time period for the company. However, they still went on to make Luigis Mansion 3 despite the horrificly bad year 2 released in.
I have this on my phone, but haven’t played it yet. I just don’t play a lot of phone games.
I played MK8 a lot on the Wii U, so I haven’t played much of the Switch port. Recently, I have been enjoying Sonic Team Racing. The team aspect and different kart classes makes it a unique (and welcome) experience.
Wow, there's a lot of choosing beggars here. Good thing I brought popcorn!
As one of many who invested money in the Wii U/ Switch consoles AND paid a full game price for Mario Kart 8, it’s difficult not to feel totally betrayed by Nintendo right now.
So many updates and free goodies for players of a game that requires zero investment, whilst leaving deserving fans out in the cold.
I’m becoming increasingly angry about this. There’s no reason that Mario Kart 8 can’t get some updates for PAYING CUSTOMERS.
Anyone who believes that mobile will be good for Nintendo are ridiculously naive.
Look how good Pauline looks! She deserves to be in more spin-offs! I demand it!
I let my gold pass expire yesterday. I don’t have all the gatcha characters but do have all the others. Have most of the karts and gliders also. So my gold is just piling up with nothing to buy. They just repeat the same unlock characters, like Peachette. You can’t get in the top 5 without having this weeks gatcha. It’s mostly lost my interest.
@patbacknitro18 Mario Kart Wii wasn't ported to Wii U, the Switch situation is completely different. I'm not saying at all that sales figures is the only thing that matter but what I am saying is that new systems can affect plans. Twilight Princess was delayed on GC to be a Wii launch title, same with BotW Wii U to be a Switch launch title, Luigi's Mansion 3 was a Wii U game that was moved to Switch, etc.
@Grumblevolcano You're right, Twilight Princess was delayed to the Wii, which the Wii also got a second Zelda game in the form of Skyward Sword. The Switch got BOTW delayed to it, and not its getting BOTW 2 made for it. Which again furthur shows that Nintendo can have an entry of a series be a launch title, yet down the line make a new entry of the series for the same system.
@Grumblevolcano Also what do you mean Luigis Mansion 3 was a WiiU game, there's no way that game took 4-6 years to make. Especially since games being developed exclusively for Switch, like Mario Odyssey, had already finished and came out. LM3 had to have been put into development after the Switch was out, you don't expect me to believe it was in development before Mario Odyssey, before Mario Rabbids, Before Yoshis Crafted World, before Kirby Star Allies, and the list goes on.
@patbacknitro18 The key difference is that Mario Kart is a multiplayer franchise. Multiple games per franchise on the same system with Nintendo is mostly a single player thing, Mario Party being the only exception that comes to mind. Would be nice if we got a Mario Kart that had a larger single player, not holding my breath though.
As for Luigi's Mansion 3, at E3 2019 it was revealed during one of the Treehouse segments that it was originally a Wii U game.
@The-Chosen-one Wow, no wonder r/choosingbeggars exists when people like you keep begging for a compilation of code and assets.
@TheAwesomeBowser
Ah, need a tissue? To wipe those baby bubbles of snot? 🤣🤣
@The-Chosen-one Haha no. It's ok, you can keep being a beggar and see where that gets ya. 🤣🤣
With a thankful heart, with an endless joy,
With a growing family, every girl and boy
Will be nephew and niece to me.
How about some new DLC to buy for mk8 deluxe?
I can't see MK9 coming until the next Nintendo system which is at least 4 years away.
Why haven't they done this?
I jumped on the dlc for wiiu back in the day, I'd do the same on the switch.
thats a nice christmas yoshi, wish we had that in the actual game on switch.
@LoveEmpath £38.99 for a single kart or character and a glider with with 18 chances on the pipes where your most likely just get the same thing but slightly leveled up is a bit insulting tho again your have to be pretty stupid with your money to buy it
You can get a full Switch game or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe bland new for that
besides it's more rewarding getting Rubies by playing the game and completing it's challenges which give you more to do then just coming first in a race heck even the shop it self has some of the rarer characters/karts on certain days, so it's worth just saving up the coins
@ClassSonicSatAm supporting developers and publishers no matter how big they are if you like their product isn't stupid. But call anyone whatever you want but I disagree with yor moving the goalpost
