They say you don't know what you've got until it's gone; alas Miiverse you were too good for this cruel world. As we reported the plug will finally be pulled on Miiverse in November, while Nintendo is giving Miiverse users the option of downloading their own personal posts for posterity, the rest of those moments will be lost, in time, like tears in the rain.
Thankfully a web developer has taken drastic action and has written a program which will archive all the images ever posted on Miiverse, and eventually the text posts too.
Let's follow his journey so far:
We wish this web developer the best of luck; it would be great to have a backup of Miiverse online somewhere. Let us know your thoughts on this noble effort with a comment below.

Twitter is a pretty good place to see art and crap you wish you could unsee/unread. Miiverse lives on in that.
Miiverse will live on forever in our hearts. Bleugh!
I know another developer of Project Kaeru, which brings Flipnote Gallery World! to the rest of the world, that developer is currently working on bringing back Miiverse by making a custom version, by writing his own code.
I'm all for archiving art for future generations but... So many furries...
That's pretty cool. I hope he can put it up publicly. Nintendo might not like it.
Never used it myself, but was always impressed by other peoples pictures. Some of the detail from such a small palette and options was amazing.
Fair play to him I say
He is doing the lords work
Now the children of future generations will be able to ponder if they are kids or if they are squids
Hmm... A bot like that will usually get banned from Nintendo. But they might not bother at this point.
@Octorok385 What's wrong g with furries? I remember them being everywhere during the splatfest.
My experience of Miiverse was recieving rude messages in Wind Waker HD, so I'm glad that can be immortalised forever.
give this person a medal
Humble programmer does what Nintendon't.
Awesome.
Without wanting to sound all American
"just let it go already"
Lofty ambitions...
This makes me happy. The art was what I will miss the most, but I do want the entire thing archived.
This is wonderful, there's so many awesome artist on mv.
Anyone whinning otherwise is a clueless kid.
@Smokingspoon Absolutely lovely, is it from the Walking Dead by any chance? Looks just like their RV in the early seasons
@Jacob1092 It's actually a Winnebago inspired from the real kitsch thing, perhaps an X-Files episode too
It a video game project I'm working for as well.
I just seen this notice, when I logged into Miiverse just a few minutes ago. I've manually accessed, & saved my images from the beginning, or at least near it. I've only had a WU since July 2014, so... On another note, it's a shame that Nintendo was so restrictive on what you could put on there for contacting you outside the 'Verse, since you'll lose what contacts you had exclusively on Miiverse.
Edit: Since they're shutting it down, they should lift most of those contact-specific restrictions. Some people don't use popular, or even other forms of, social media, & still want to maintain contact with those they've met in Miiverse.
Sounds cool. I hope he succeeds.
Good luck to him. I wonder how many 500GB HDDs Miiverse could fill, everything included? One good thing: he won't have to archive deleted posts.
My hat is off to this courageous archiver. They are definitely racing the clock and storage limitations in their quest. @dazza Also great Blade Runner quote in the article.
Nintendo owns all the content published on Miiverse. There's no telling what will happen once the people archiving it all get around to publishing it after November.
I am glad at least someone is trying to preserve the memory of Miiverse. I have MANY found memories of sharing my adventures with friends and family members through the service, and I spent many nights staying up late looking at posts from other people in the games I loved. Would be a shame to lose this little piece of Nintendo history.
Where can we donate, this is worth a dollar each hands down.
Wow, that's awesome!
Nintendo are really making a stupid mistake to end Miiverse.
Sure, it had its flaws, but so much more great things going for it.
Just look at all these beautiful drawings, look at how people communicated with and helped each other.
Nintendo could've just produced some kind of Miiverse 2.0 for the Switch.
Cease and desist order in 3...2...1...
As long as they keep all the good artwork, I'll be happy! Playing Yoshi's Woolly World gave me terrible frights in the form of inappropriate Miiverse posts during loading. (You don't wanna know) So they can go... but some amazing art makes me jealous that I don't have the patience to draw in B/W alone. Credit where it's due <3
@shani I would have loved it if Nintendo could have evolved Miiverse to better suit the Switch. I'd be all for it!
Great! This way my old mock-up splash screens showcasing Smash characters I wanted ("Paper Mario unfolds" was my favourite pun out of all the ones I made) will be preserved. Thank you, hard-worker!
Doing God's work.
@MadameSpuki Ikr? Seems like a missed opportunity to me.
@shani It has never been an opportunity, so it can't be missed. From business perspective, I don't see how Nintendo would gain from Miiverse. It was a mistake to introduce it in the first place.
Genius! This dude deserves something special for doing what Nintendon't
Meh, good luck. I'm over it.
The transient nature of miiverse was one reason I avoided posting too much art on it, but game screenshots and comments were a fun way to interact with others (or meme it up)
That said, there were a lot of impressive art on Miiverse regardless. If it's still up, I'd advise those people to go (to the PC version of miiverse) and save their own art out to their computer as a backup.
