According to Nintendojo, Capcom has confirmed that Mega Man 9 will indeed support not only the Wii Remote held sideways, but also the Classic and Gamecube controllers. What this also means is that if you're lucky enough to own one of the Wii NES RetroPort adapters, you can even use the original NES controller to play the game for that authentic 8-bit feeling. Could Power Glove support possibly be next?
We'll keep you informed on any new Mega Man news as it becomes available.

Hmmm not bad i can use a Classic controller or GameCube controller but i rather use a Classic controller instead because it has a bigger d-pad it good for my big fingers
I like this news I'll buy it at some point.
I have both Classic and GameCube controllers.
Sounds awesome, I love my classic controller and this totally makes Megaman 9 even better.
Not too surprising, considering all Nes games support all three controllers. The Retro Port Adapter sounds cool though.
I think it's funny how so many people would rather use older systems' controllers than the Wii's (and not just for Mega Man 9). Nonetheless, options are usually not a bad thing.
Those controller ports definately are tempting.
i have found some new movie footage of megaman 9 on this site http://wii.kombo.com/article.php?artid=12455 its from tornado man, hornet man and magma man
You could even use a NES or SNES controller on Wii for Megaman 1 to 8 and X with said adapters and Megaman Anniversary &/or X Colletcion for Game Cube!
I have several kinds of adapters, including these. The reason I really like them is not just because they are how the game was ment to be played but because I'm not wasting batteries.
I agree with Bluerider. The Wiimote and Gamecube Controller's D-Pads are far too small, i welcome this news, cuz' it means i'll be able to play it with the classic one then ^^.
i was prepared to use any controller but ill stick with the classic controller when i played king of fighters 4 i felt it much easier to fight somehow then with the gamecube controller no sure why though.us here now wondering if they will add optional rumble for mote and cube
Good news. I always did respect CAPCOM.
I'm fine with a sideways Wiimote (just how I pwn with Ice Climbers), but the extra options are welcome. =)
I'm glad that capcom is sticking to more traditional control schemes, and not making it all waggly. But I'll just stick to a single Wiimote. It's more fitting for NES (or NES-style in this case) games IMO.
I wonder if there's rumble w/ the Gamecube controller. Not that it matters, since my one GC controller with rumble broke (never get a third-party controller, kids), and my Wavebird controller doesn't rumble.
As long as it uses the Wiimote as a NES controller I'm happy. But this news is a bonus
Sweet - I've used the GC controller in every game I got on VC, that it's pretty much become the only controller I can use lol.
Good news ! Hopefully they won't reverse the button layout on the GC controller like they did on the Mega Man collection = l
Great news, we support discontinued controllers! Wait... what?
Yeees! I have the SNES version of Retroport, it´ll be an OK substitute for NES controller
@Peznaze GC Bongos ftw!!! __
Meh, I'll stick with my Wiimote. That's the only way to play NES games.
Its good that they support every type of gamer with different type of controllers. i am going to stick with the wii remote for the classic 8 bit feel. if say that i want to play with the real nes controller where do i buy that gc/nes converter. And U.S. have now got a release date for megaman 9 which is september i hope it gets out somewhere around september to in europe capcom is the best they never let me down. keep up the good work capcom.
Rockman 90:
You can buy NES or SNES to GC converter from http://www.retrousb.com/
I bought mine from Tradera, take a peek there as well ^^
I have one more question the wii have 4 gc controller ports does any nes or snes games use 4 controllers beacuse both of them just have 2 controller ports each. i think i have heard that there is an accesorie that uses it for nes but for snes i am not sure. if so what games.
I'm glad they're making the support available, but the sideways Wiimote is close enough to the NES for me. I don't like having to plug and unplug different accessories into my Wiimote.
I'm glad for the info, but surely, who didn't expect that? It would be ridiculous if a "new NES game" wouldn't support as much as the old ones on VC do!
Turns out GameCube controller support didn't happen.
