Recently I've started just downloading all my multiplayer-focused games so I'll be grabbing a pair of NSO vouchers closer to launch to use on this and Splatoon 3.
Looking for £39 price point on this……so will wait
WHY IS THE EU NAME SO BAD UGH.
If you're in Canada: pnp games already has it up for preorder
Not that it plays badly but I was always disappointed that Mario Strikers never stuck with the art style from its artwork and defaults to the usual.
A cel-shaded style almost like Okami but with the overly sketched outlines would look amazing as a game.
Kinda funny how all the Mario Strikers games need to include the word "Football" in the European/Australian titles, as if it wasn't obvious.
@westman98 I dont see why the Australia ones would. As football here is AFL, and football is called Soccer instead haha.
Do we know who is actually developing this game? Likely Next Level.... but this is too early for a pre-order imo.
@RadioHedgeFund I'm with you entirely, but at least the specials get embellished with that art style. Definitely looking forward to seeing those in game.
@msvt It's always too early for a preorder!
Literally no point in pre-ordering as the best prices come on launch day or a few days later.
I'm not really in a hurry to pre-order this one (I know it won't have a special edition) and this is a game I'm sure will be available everywhere that sells video games in my area. Same with Kirby.
I'm so on the fence with this game I just can't decide if I want it or not. Loved it on Gamecube but no so much on the Wii. I've given my reasons already so no point repeating myself here.
I guess I'll see how this game does at launch and decide from there.
@Fizza Agree. Why is 'Football' needed. Also shouldn't it be 'Soccer' and not 'Football'!?
Although now starting to think a Mario American Football game would be amazing!
Football/Futbol is what most of the world calls soccer. It would only make sense to call it "soccer" for the American version.
Didn't Cartman once say that preordering is like getting a big D in your mouth?
@Swizze
I think the previous Mario Strikers had "Football" in the title for the Australian versions.
@Bret
yes I am learning after pre-ordering Arceus (liked) and Tony Hawk (didn't like) when both were pre-ordered months prior to NOT get the game until 4 days after launch.
Why did they add football? It makes a great title just feel way to long.
I will probably just go ahead and pre-order at some point. Loved the Wii game and this was one of a fair few Direct surprises
@Fizza what are you talking about man they only added football to the title. in europe where football is very big you have to do that
@Mythra But it looks so unnatural and forced. There's no need for it to be there (the American one is perfect), and this is coming from someone who lives in the EU and is footie mad.
If there is ever an American football Mario game, I have to wonder what it's European/Australian name will be...🤔
This game looks awesome but I will wait until there's proof the online isn't of poor quality like some other Nintendo games, but if it all checks out I'll probably get this with a voucher alongside one of the other many new games coming out
I´ll wait for this one. I need to read and watch the real reviews (not the day-one "purchased reviews". I won´t buy any Mario sports game on impulse. I'm relieved that I didn't buy Mario Tennis Aces or Mario Golf. Both have little single content. They are very limited games for the price that Nintendo charges. Although I like soccer. I'll wait... very calmly.
@Fizza they should call it Mario Smash football like the gamecube version.
@Mythra I would still prefer for it to be 'Strikers' but that is leagues better than what it is now (eh? eh?).
@Personausermike thanks!
@Lord,
It will be £39 pretty much everywhere online at launch, never pay more than £40 for a physical game.
@RubyCarbuncle Same here.
I loved the GC version but something was lost with the Wii version.
I will get the Switch version (with Scarf) and if I don't like it, I'll be be done with the 'Mario Football' Games.
@westman98 Mario Rugby
@RubyCarbuncle
There is a demo version.
@johnvboy Same. Haven't paid over £40 on day 1 for a long time. Argos tend to drop to this price on release day and normally have good stock.
Game just charge full whack and wonder why they are always on the brink. Haven't bought anything in Game for years. Shame they dissolved the Gamestation brand.
@sanderev Thanks but I tried it already and I actually enjoyed it. Wasn't expecting much but I was pleasantly surprised instead.
@Rykdrew I say this….. but half of the time”shut up and take my money….” Kicks in.
@rockodoodle "”shut up and take my money"
I will never do this with my wallet. By no company. But the important thing is that you are happy. I'm glad I don't buy less content for more price! The important thing is that everyone is happy!
@Rykdrew I am slowly learning that I need to enjoy what I have. Nintendo is hard for me to pass up bc most of the time the games are playable regardless of skill level and they have a certain amount of charm and nostalgia……will at least wait for reviews here.
@HamatoYoshi that makes no sense. When has there ever been a deal on launch day? And even if there was your preorder price would be the same or adjusted when picking up.
Anyone who has this preordered beware. I played the online demo and it was extremely disappointing. Controls are sluggish, there’s bad lag, and the games are almost too chaotic. You’re shoved to the ground every 5 seconds and keeping track of who you’re in control of is cumbersome to say the least.
@Snakesglowcaps Exactly this. I had pre-ordered the game, but played the online demo and canceled my preorder as a result.
Like you said, the gameplay was mostly sluggish and chaotic..
It was no fun, perhaps it's just not for me and others will enjoy it, but I'm sure I won't. 🤣
I'm thankful for the online demo test as now that I've canceled the preorder I'll get another game instead.
@BANJO exactly. Cancelled right after. I wanted to love it and I was very excited but this is a bad look for Nintendo. Limited content and bad online infrastructure on a mostly online game. I hope people will learn from this but I doubt it.

Would normally get cheaper but that damn scarf through the official store was too much to resist. Pre-ordered last night.
The madness is, I don't even wear scarves. I am a marketing guys dream...
@westman98
Super Mario Gridiron. Keep the same name across all regions.
Don't think I will get this, not really a football fan myself. If this game is finished with the free updates it may change my mind
@Laserbeak1982 In almost everywhere of the world is football called football instead of soccer like in the USA. .
If your in the uk. You can buy it in shops.
S
@Snakesglowcaps You guys are right. I bought it and my first impressions are that most of those "multi-layered" moves (especially charged shots) can't realistically be done most of the time because your characters get laid out before they can execute them. Hard to keep your eye on a tiny meter (that freezes you in place, no less, shades of my problems with Metroid Dread) when the opposition typically flattens you before it even comes up.
I'll give the game further chances, of course; not much choice once you've made a nonrefundable purchase after all. But I don't realistically see this one ever becoming the local multi-player option I was hoping for, because it's just too nuanced and frenetic to be pick-up-and-play.
This may seem too radical of an idea, but sometimes less is more. It'd be nice to have an option for no items, charged shots, or other fluff. Just a simple, regular soccer (or football depending on where you're from) game if you want it.
One word to describe Mario Strikers: Disappointing.
I don't understand how nintendolife.com can give it a 9 out of 10. Repetitive, boring, limited roster, ....
@iubuntu I also read another review we’re the difficulty spikes from very easy to pretty difficult between the first two settings. I found this to be the case with ARMS (loved the game, but could not progress past level 4-5) and to a degree Tennis. Really starting to feel that this will be a pass for me.
This game looks Barebone to me too. I don’t even think I’ll be getting it. I love the game cube version. I didn’t get the Wii version. So yeah.
Just call it "Football league battle" if you want to make sure absolutely everybody understands its a football game in Europe.
