The Star Egg is one of the most obscure items in Super Mario RPG. You could replay this game over and over and not even know it exists!
Tucked away behind a little sidequest and optional area, the Star Egg is one of the most powerful items in the game.
In this guide, we'll tell you what the Star Egg is, how to get it, and when to use it.

What is the Star Egg?
The Star Egg is a reusable battle item, which means it will never be consumed when you select it.
Using the item in battle summons three different star enemies on screen, who then dance, and deall 100 damage to every enemy on screen. Pretty useful, then.
How to get the Star Egg
Getting the Star Egg is a pretty tedious process, unfortunately. But luckily it's not hard.
First of all, you need to unlock Grate Guy's Casino. Once you've accessed it, head inside and talk to Grate Guy a few times until he offers to play "Look the other way" with you.
In this minigame, you need to guess which way Grate Guy will point and then look in the opposite direction. This minigame is entirely random, so you have a 50/50 chance of winning each time. For each win, you can get some Mushrooms — some helpful, and some Moldy — and, occasionally, Rock Candy and Croaka Cola.
You need to beat Grate Guy at "Look the other way" 100 times before he gives you the Star Egg. You don't need to do this 100 times in a row, fortunately, but 100 times in total. This will take a while... However, he will hand it over when you hit that sweet 100.
How to use the Star Egg
Unlike the Mystery Egg, the Star Egg doesn't require any items, or even a particular character, to actually use properly.
All you have to do is jump into the menu, find the Star Egg, and select it. Easy.
Is the Mystery Egg or the Star Egg better?
They're both very useful, and both require a lot of steps to get, but it depends.
The Mystery Egg — once it's turned into the Lamb's Lure or Sheep Attack — will wipe out all enemies except bosses, so it's stronger, but you don't get experience or money when using it. The Star Egg does a flat 100 damage (in the Switch remake, at least) so probably won't defeat anything high-level, but it'll make a dent in their health.

If you have the effect of Attack Boost(from Geno or from a piece of equipment) the egg damage will be 150 instead of the usual 100.
