Originally arriving as part of July 2020's 1.4.0 update, the fireworks shows from previous entries returned in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. On Sunday evenings throughout August, you'll be able to enjoy a bright display in the night sky above your island, whichever hemisphere you reside in.
We've collected all the information on the event below. Obviously, there are itsy-bitsy spoilers ahead. The event isn't difficult to work out on your own and we recommend waiting for the days and enjoying it totally fresh. If you're unsure how to get your own custom fireworks in the show, or don't care about 'spoilers', read on!

When is the fireworks show?
There are multiple shows! Every Sunday evening throughout the month of August there will be a fireworks display. This applies to both Northern and Southern hemispheres.
There will be five fireworks shows in 2022. Here are the dates:
- Sunday 7th August 2022
- Sunday 14th August 2022
- Sunday 21st August 2022
- Sunday 28th August 2022
The show starts at 7pm in the evening and finish at midnight, and although your main plaza is buzzing with activity, the fireworks can be viewed in the night sky anywhere around your island. Use the right stick to get the best view of the sky.
What happens during the fireworks show?
Besides fireworks, you mean? Well, animal residents congregate on the main plaza to enjoy the show - speak to them and they may give you a little present like a sparkler to celebrate.
Speak to Isabelle during the fireworks show and she'll give you a new special item every Sunday:
There's also a raffle to take part in for more prizes (see below for more details) and you can submit custom designs to Isabelle which will appear randomly alongside the standard fireworks for the duration of the show.
How do I make custom fireworks?
To make custom fireworks for the display, first you'll need a custom design prepared and ready to go.
Once you've got something appropriate, talk to Isabelle on the main plaza and tell her you've got a firework idea. She will add your design to the fireworks show lineup and you'll see it fired into the sky later in the evening.
You can give Isabelle up to ten different designs (or duplicate the same one ten times, as we have below - why mess with perfection, eh?). They will then be interspersed with the regular fireworks throughout the evening. You can still talk to Isabelle once the show has started and switch/add designs.
What is Redd's Raffle?
During the fireworks show (and only during the show itself) art dealer Redd runs a raffle with random prizes available to help you get in the spirit of things. These fun items--several of which are one-time-use consumables--are exclusively available from Redd, and only during the fireworks shows.
To take part in this raffle, approach the raffle box (not Redd himself) and press 'A'. Every turn costs 500 Bells and you can a selection of fun and festive items.
It is entirely possible to win multiple items of the same type, so just keep entering the raffle if you'd like to stock up for the rest of the year with spares.
What can I win from Redd's Raffle?
Here's a complete list of the items you can win from Redd's Raffle. It appears he has a total of 12 items available to win, but we'll update this list if any others come to light:
Item number | Redd Raffle prize |
---|---|
1 | Red Sparkler |
2 | Blue Sparkler |
3 | Fountain Firework |
4 | Bubble Blower |
5 | Uchiwa Fan |
6 | Pinwheel |
7 | Tweeter |
8 | Blue Balloon |
9 | Red Balloon |
10 | Yellow Balloon |
11 | Green Balloon |
12 | Pink Balloon |
How should I prepare for the fireworks show?
If you want to personalise the fireworks display, it's probably a good idea to have your custom designs ready for the show. You'll also want to have money in your pocket for Redd's Raffle.
Otherwise, just sit back and enjoy the show!
Hang on, where's K.K. when the fireworks are on?!
On the weekend of the August Bug-Off (in the Northern Hemisphere), travelling musician K.K. Slider's concert gets bumped not to Sunday (as usual), but to the following Monday instead. So, you won't miss a chance to pocket one of the hound dog's discs for your K.K. record collection.
Feel free to share your custom firework pics in the comments below.

I like the idea of custom fireworks. Did New Leaf do that as well because I don't remember?
I have to go out at 7, how long do the fireworks last?
@Spoony_Tech You're right. And iirc guests could even put up theirs in a friend's village. Not in this game.
@OnlyManWhoCan Until midnight. And there's always next Sunday within this month. Or time travel (adjusting the system clock).
