Review Swords & Soldiers (WiiWare)
Has this much-hyped title been worth the wait?
The strategy genre has gone quite ignored on WiiWare. Aside from the launch title Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King the only other game was the recent Crystal Defenders R1. With Swords & Soldiers, Dutch developer Ronimo Games has taken a stab at bringing the RTS (real-time...

About The Game
Rewrite history as you take control of the brutal Vikings, the devious Aztecs or the crafty Chinese in their global quest to win the favor of the Gods.
Swords & Soldiers is a side-scrolling strategy game that lets you control an entire army and wield devastating magical abilities. Demolish your enemy’s castle at the end of these two-dimensional battlefields and lead your troops to victory. Featuring hours of single-player campaign game play and challenging skirmishes, the game also offers frantic local multiplayer matches that let you take the fight to your friends. yes and it has multiplayer even better i like the art style for the game hopefully it wont be to expensive.
This game's make it or break it moment is probably what it offers in multiplayer. Hope for WIFI, but expect at least good splitscreen.
Already one of my most anticipated WiiWare titles.
I WILL get tis game if it has wifi. I MIGHT get is if it does not have wifi
i think it's a good idea. It would be perfict if it has wifi can't wate!
Hmmm, i'll wait for a video, sounds swell tho
If it had wifi ill totally get this...but if it dosnt, then maybe
I definitely can't wait for this one. As much as I suck at RTSs, they are incredibly fun! I've never played one in a more 2D style( except Patapon), so it'll definitely be a new experience. I don't really care if it has WiFi or not, so long as it has a good singleplayer, and maybe local multiplayer, I'll be just fine with it.
Edit: I just noticed that there's a ninja star embedded in the title! I'd say that there's a good chance that Ninjas will indeed appear in this game!
This looks alright, might get it, i like RTS
i want this game so bad come on release it already!
This game looks fun, I'll put it on my list of "possibles"
Really looking forward to this! Hope it delivers!
Looks pretty neat I'll check it out.
I'd be interested in it if it weren't for those cheesey "what I call crappy" graphics... which I disklike for a freaking good reason... because it looks like a poor excuse for one of those stupid adult oriented cartoons... and yes I'm old fashined and like this in a more classy way! give it a more Zelda WW Cel-Shaded look with enemies/characters that look like they came from a fantasy medieval story... not this crap!!!
>
I'll be checking this out also.
hope this comes soon, it be awsome if it wii speak support
Yeah, Dutch Power. I had the honor to play it yesterday and I can say it is very promising game!
It probably comes out late January or February.
Ooh, can we have some impressions from you? So lucky that you live in that area!
WW: When will S&S be released on WiiWare and how much will it cost?
FA: The game will be released somewhere around November / December this year.
If you dont know if you'll like this, go to maxgames.com, go to rpgs, and play age of war
Can't wait for this.
@KnucklesSonic8 but you must.
Anybody heard any news on this game? I'm rele looking forward to it but I havnt heard much from it since!!
^ Well Wikipedia said that it's coming in February 2009 (that doesn't really confirm much though)
@bwaybuddy26
I now had the honor to actually test the game last Saturday. It doesn't happen often that I play a game that continues to fascinate me all afternoon, but this game certainly did! I think that says enough.
Instant buy people!
"I think that says enough." Not even close. Give us all the juicy details. Its not an instant buy just because you played it for ONE afternoon.
I can't give you any juicy details, because I'm not aloud to say anything specific about it.
I can say the third faction is also very good and fits perfectly with the other two. Also the storyline is developed very well!
I'm guessing that the third faction is oriental in origin (hopefully ninja related).
If you look at the Swords and Soldiers logo, you can see an arrow (Aztecs), an axe (Vikings), and a shuriken (???) protruding from the wooden shield.
Ninjas is the third a faction. This looks like the it will be the best game on wiiware( yes even beter than the perfection of World of Goo). The graphics look cool and perfect for this type of game.
It will be the best game on WiiWare so far. And if it are Ninjas... You will see, I know if it is or isn't.
They created the original De Blob on PC, this game might be good too...
There's a good developer interview on the wiids podcast (available on itunes} and at thewiids.co.uk about this game
Seems like this is one of the most anticipated games right now, hm?
Check out a new interview. Ronimo talks about a sequel and a totally new project. Plus, a bunch of new details about the game.

theres a devblog, lots of info:

i wonder when is this finaly coming out ? can't wait!
the Olga unit is pretty hawt
if you have a thing for big, muscular women then yes :S
check my avatar
It's a shame that this will have no online play (according to the interview), but this game will still be fantastic in terms of quality.
Confirmed to be coming soon: "in the next few weeks"
@Crazed: When so many games on the Wii don't have splitscreen, I'll happily take this one with that feature instead of online. It ticks me off that there are so few on the Wii, and yet almost every game on the 360 gets splitscreen >_<
This is a must buy for me, but why is it taking esrb so long to rate it?
Edit: Its been rated
SWEET.
Might download this one.
This is like "real time worms" or something....lol
Not for me, but looks quality
I honestly can't believe some of you guys.
You won't get it just because of Wi-Fi?
What ever happened to getting some pals to come over and play it with them? Why is wi-fi such a big deal? You guys will miss out on a lot of great games that way. I can't wait for this game.
Release date listed on nintendo.co.uk as 15-05-2009, priced at 1000 points. Something to look forward to next update.
Tomorrow!!!
According to IGN, this is one of the best Wiiware games released in a long time.
to those who have it/tried it:
i read on the official home page about different modes
-Various challenge modes, such as Survival, Berserker run, and more
can anyone give me more specifics of this one?
Man that looks like a awesome game! Wiiware lately has been getting some really cool original games!
It's like a cartooney version of command and conquer
I was just going to say it looks like a cartoony Warcraft.
I have no idea what I'm doing wrong on this game, but I can't get past level 8 of the first campaign. Any tips, Marcel?
Frosthammers and Catapults are your friends in that one, really!
It's one of my favorite games! Just I have a problem to beat 9th level of the second campain. Can anyone tell me what I have to do?
That one's pretty tough. I eventually beat it by slowly pushing forward to defeat the vikings (Simple), then throwing rocks as much as possible while pushing forward with Sun Giants.
When the vikings have been defeated, try making your units walk along the bottom path, then switching the sign to the top path and throwing a boulder so it passes by the units on the bottom path with no problem.
Cheers, a Frosthammer/ Catapult/ Axethrower spam worked quite nicely...I'm now up to the final campaign, I think I'm starting to understand this game better now...it's pretty much the first RTS game I've ever played.
Also, I believe on Campaign 2 level 9 if you let the Vikings get very close to your base, frosthamr (I think that's his name...) brings a ton of Viking units to help you out, which makes the battle a lot easier...
I read the review and thought it looked pretty good, but I had no idea. This game is GREAT.
I found this game repetitive and it does get boring very quick.
But there is no denying that this is a good game.
there has been allot worse WiiWare Games.
I agree 2 very repetitive and the multiplayer mode does not have enough tactics just an endless building until one side falls over....
at first glance it seems like a 9/10 but now maybe a 6/10
and btw the japanese telekenetics guys seems too strong or is it just me?
chinese ><
Looks and sounds great! Will definitely download this.
He is far too strong,
I have stopped playing it now.
This is an awesome game! I've just completed the Aztec campaign and am about to start with the Chinese. We played multiplayer yesterday and it was crazy... our battle lasted over 40 minutes!
cool game
