Review Blaster Master (Wii U eShop / NES)
Master your blast!
The latest eShop release of Sunsoft's 1988 NES classic, Blaster Master, marks the title's third Virtual Console appearance. With the game previously sighted on the Wii and more recently the 3DS, now it's the Wii U's turn to host this side-scrolling and top-down platform shooter that has since spawned an entire series. The western...
Review Blaster Master (3DS eShop / NES)
Master of blasters
When it was originally released in Japan as Meta Fight, Blaster Master failed to make much of an impact. In the west, however, it was retooled slightly and given a new story about a boy and his pet frog, and became a cult classic that spawned multiple sequels - several of which ended up not even being released in Japan. On the...
Review Blaster Master (Wii Virtual Console / NES)
It's a blast!
We saw a lot of legendary titles come out of the 8-bit era of gaming, but probably none quite as ahead of its time as Blaster Master. The game combined so many different gameplay ideas into one amazing adventure that offered up more playability than probably any other title of its kind at that time. There was platforming, exploration,...

Tiny Galaxy, airport management, Blaster Master, G.G Series and more
Following the passing of Satoru Iwata earlier this week Nintendo isn't actively issuing press releases at the time of writing; as a result the following is based upon checking the eShop stores. We have a promising Nindie effort on Wii U, a couple of quirky efforts on 3DS, more G.G...

News Japanese Virtual Console list - June 2010
More Neo Geo support
There's not much of note for Japan next month on the Virtual Console. Nintendo's only title is a Super Famicom game we'll likely never get. Aside from that, there's just two NES and Neo Geo games to pick from. The full list for June is as follows: Famicom: Meta Fight (The original Japanese version of Blaster Master. The...

More DSiWare madness, and a few Wii downloads too
Nintendo really seems to love DSiWare all of a sudden, because it seems to be getting more games than both other services combined every single week now. This time there's not four or five new games available for it, but a whopping six! The Virtual Console gets a classic long overdue in Europe, while...

About The Game
The New York sewers were never like this!
You've fallen down a hidden manhole into a world of creatures so terrifying they'd scare the rats away. You can panic and perish, or blast your way through an endless maze of tunnels, searching for the secret passages that will lead to your escape.
But that's the easy part! Watch out for the Masters of the Caverns who lay waiting - prehistoric creatures so powerful, so gigantic, they literally fill your screen! So load your arsenal and get ready for Blaster Master.

I've never thought this game would be released, especially given that Sunsoft closed there North American and European division. Guess I was wrong. Let's hope the game is good.
Let's see, we already have Pilotwing and Super Smash Bros. coming this month. Add with this game and the only possible bad week can happen just once.
They nearly got December, 2009 covered and we still haven't seen the first Monday yet.
I have this game. I haven't played it in awhile. I remember it being hard, and I loved the top-down perspective areas. I'ma go play it again before the year ends. ^^
This is an awesome game. Excellent graphics, music, gameplay; this game is one of the best on the NES. Be ready for the pain as this game is tough as nails. Just remember the trick used to defeat the yellow devil in Mega Man. It will come in handy in this game.
Any less than a 10/10 from you guys and I'll never forgive ya.
Seriously, one of the best the NES has to offer.
Awwww yeah! Love this challenging game! I can't wait!
It's coming? And even still in December? Wow, I always meant to try this one and maybe the next Hanabi Festival will mark my chance to.
WHAT WHAT WHAT!?!?!?! Blaster Master!!! got this game for my 7th birthday - I asked my dad for Kid Icarus, he searched everywhere but couldn't find it so he was told by some cashier to get this game for me, and I'm very glad he suggested it. Still some of the best game music around. The difficulty, as some others already pointed out, is quite high. You will die, and die often. This game was quite innovative for its time and I say it still holds up to this day.
The game is hard, but brilliant. Has a awesome soundtrack too. Too bad the boxart isn't too hot.
^^ its dated, but the year it came out... that was the epitome of cool lol!
@KeeperBvK - it was released in Europe in 1991, so chances are it will be the PAL version if it comes on VC over here.
@ antster1983: It really was? I always thought it'd never reached European shores! That's great (old) news. Thanks. ^^
Blaster Master will be out in NA on December 14th.

Game is definitely hard, but what good times were had playing it!
One of my all-time favorite NES games. Played the hell out of it, so much so that I stumbled across the "kill a boss with one grenade" trick without the benefit of magazine hints or gamefaqs. Still ticks me off that it doesn't work on every boss in the game.
Yes! Blaster Master will be my NES free game. Was good to wait.
I just looked up a video for this.
I am definetly downloading this.
Never played this back in the day. I may also use my hoarded NES credit for this.
@Bakajin: Your NES credit expires on the 31st, just in case you didn't know.
I'm slowly getting back in the groove of this game. Use to play it all the time five or six years ago but MAN that crab has got to be the most annoying of all the bosses! I'm still trying to get his pattern down. Lovin playing this again.
I actually managed to beat this game back in the day...it is still one of the proudest personal achievements in my gaming life!
This game definitely has a certain "magic" to it. It ranks as one of my all-time favorites. It would definitely be an accomplishment for me to beat this game. It would be like beating Kid Chameleon back in the day!
i played this when i was a kid and defeated it. it was hard.. it was fun. and the music is awesome.. i still remember the ice level music.. i can hum it in my head but for those who want to hear it here.. here's the clip..
wait til the dude gets in the car and jumps through the door for the ice level music
