Review Super Smash Bros. Melee (GameCube)
Better than Brawl?
We live in a world of advanced communication. We can be sitting in our living room in Columbus, Ohio and play a game of Call of Duty with our friends in Vietnam. We could even put a headset on and have a conversation with them while we do so. We can whip out our Nintendo DS consoles and play a game of Mario Kart against complete...

Guide Best Super Smash Bros. Games Of All Time
What's the ultimate Super Smash Bros., bro?
When Super Smash Bros. Ultimate arrived on Switch back in 2018 and brought with it every single fighter from the series' history, it sent us back through the older games. With the original Super Smash Bros. now well into its third decade, it's incredible to see how the series has evolved over two decades...

Review Nintendo Switch Online GameCube Controller - The Return Of The King
A little birdy wants to wave hello
The N64 controller has its fair share of fans, but I am not one of them. I should clarify that I don’t dislike it, as such, but as someone who owned a PS1 back in the ‘90s and only had limited access to the N64 through my friends, the three-pronged design definitely felt, well… weird by comparison. I’ve...
"No one to blame but myself"
Professional Smash Bros. player Joseph 'Mang0' Marquez has today been dropped by his main sponsor 'Cloud9' due to "inappropriate conduct" at a recent Mario Kart World "Beerio Kart" tournament hosted by streamer and internet personality Ludwig Aghren. This 11-year sponsorship marks the end of "one of the longest...
Opinion I Never Felt True Nostalgia Until I Played GameCube On Switch 2
Ahh, memories
I still remember the day I got my GameCube. It wasn’t the launch day, because I remember getting Super Smash Bros. Melee alongside it, which to my knowledge released a few weeks after the console itself in the UK. Oh gosh, I was so excited though! I pored over early issues of NGC in the weeks leading up to The Big Day (somehow,...
Random Unluckiest Gaming Moment Of The Year? Smash Bros. Final Ends With A Tree Glitch
Melee unlucky
An incredibly unlucky Super Smash Bros. Melee player has lost a tournament, and a prize pot of over $2000 to boot, by succumbing to an incredibly badly timed glitch in the final round...of the final match. No, this is not a movie. As seen over on YouTube (thank you, VGC), the deciding match of the 'Full House 2025' tournament in...
News Super Smash Bros. Melee Player Abdulaziz "Hax$" Al-Yami Has Died
"He LOVED Melee"
Pro Super Smash Bros. Melee player Aziz "Hax$" Al-Yami has died at the age of 30. A GoFundMe page was set up earlier this week, with the accompanying social media post saying Hax was "fighting for his life". The page now carries a new message confirming that he "passed away peacefully" on the morning of Tuesday 25th March. REST...
Random Want To Play Smash Bros. Melee On The Train? Amtrak Is Fine With That
"Go ahead and bring that extra CRT"
Trains are great. We love a good train ride. It's even better these days given the advancements in technology, space, and comfort (though granted, there's still also a load of work to be done; especially in the UK), making particularly lengthy journeys a joy if you happen to have some suitable entertainment with...
Video Sakurai Looks Back On The Super Smash Bros. 'Dojo' Marketing Campaigns
"I chose to handle updating the website myself
We all remember those days leading up to the launch of Smash Bros. entries like BRAWL and Ultimate; waiting for any scrap of new information on potential fighters, stages, items, and more was certainly taxing at times, but goodness, it felt like Christmas morning everytime something significant was...
News Riot Games Reportedly Cancels Smash Bros. Style Fighter Codenamed 'Pool Party'
"A platform fighter in the vein of Super Smash Bros. Melee"
The Super Smash Bros. series is the king of brawlers and many other companies have attempted to recreate this magic with certain other franchises over the years. With this in mind, Riot Games (the same team behind League of Legends) has apparently cancelled its own "unannounced" Super...
Random Wait, Yesterday's Date Appears In The Super Smash Bros. Melee Manual?
What does it mean? (Nothing!)
Super Smash Bros. Melee is 23 years old later this year, which is ridiculous to think about. How many times have you flipped through the manual, perusing its pages and reliving the nostalgia of playing Smash with friends? And when did you notice that, on page 48, of the manual, the date 02.01.24 is written down? Yep,...
Talking Point Which Feature From Each Smash Bros. Game Should Make A Return?
Smash Ultimate... Ultimate?
The Super Smash Bros. franchise has come a long way since the original launched 25 years ago in 1999. Yes, you read that right — the original Super Smash Bros. is 25 years old tomorrow, 21st January. If we look at the character roster for a start, we began with a humble offering of 12 playable fighters in Super Smash...
About The Game
Favorites from the Nintendo family are lining up for a chance to win it all in Super Smash Bros.® Melee for NINTENDO GAMECUBE, unveiled this year at E3. As one of the kick-off titles exclusively for NINTENDO GAMECUBE, Super Smash Bros. Melee throws players into an ultimate melee against multiple lethal enemies in which they can experience a heightened level of multi-player action intensity.
Super Smash Bros. Melee improves on the original N64 multi-player game with all-time favorite Nintendo characters - Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Kirby, Yoshi and more - pulled from a number of hit Nintendo games. Some of the characters haven't been seen since certain NES games, such as the cult figure Ice Climber. However, these classic characters have been revamped with amazing detail to create vivid battle scenes with blows and throws never seen before.
"This game is a great way to bring our unique proprietary characters together to create a huge smash hit," says Peter Main, executive vice president, sales and marketing, Nintendo of America Inc. "We combined more than a dozen lush backgrounds from the most popular Nintendo games and enhanced them with state-of-the-art graphics and special features to create a frantic, frenzied romp that will leave players wanting more."
Due to the enhanced capabilities of the NINTENDO GAMECUBE, players can select characters based on their signature moves and weapons to battle opponents for triumph and trophies. They can choose to battle against friends, or opt for the all-new side scrolling one-player mode. Throughout the game, opponents practice moves in a training mode that judges fighting ability and specific attack skills, and then enter a new tournament mode that can handle up to 64 entrants battling at the same time. With nearly 30 new offensive and defensive items to use in battle and the ability to find and unlock secret hidden modes and new characters, competitors will have plenty of choices in their grueling match play. Players earn points through battles and can collect many figures of favorite past and present Nintendo characters to become the ultimate warrior.

I love this Game! The Challenger Approaching Scene and Music is so Epic!
I like getting stuck on the guns in starfox ship stage. the one that goes sideways.(note: it is almost impossible to get back from there without a KO)
i want this
here the smash bros series started to become big, bigger stages, more characters and more moves
was a great game, i only didnt really use kirby's run attack (fireball)
SSBB is even more advanced, but this game was so challenging back then, now SSBB is more challenging, and SSBM is easier
i know its high rated, but i still give it a 10/10 as it made me very happy, i would agree with 8,5/10 if i compared SSBM to SSBB
best game ever.
this game can go to the toilet
ssbb is better kurachi
Fox and Falco's voice makes me think Mike West and Bill Johns, respectively, are better in voice acting than the voice directors think.
I've played all the Smash Bros. games, and this one is my favorite. It has a near and dear spot in my heart.
Brawl's adventure mode is way better than Melee's, But everything else in Melee is better than Brawl.
Is there any way to purchase downloads for this or previous smash bros on the wii u????
This game is awesome but I wish it included third party characters like Sonic. I love everything else though!
@Eppo88, Unfortunately...no.
Melee is the best playing for over 36 hours non stop trying to get Mew-two and I also love the other characters you unlock Young Link, Ganondorf, Dr Mario, Roy and Marth ahhh fresh!.
Honestly, Melee is a bit overrated. Sorry Melee fans. Still gave it an 8/10 though.
One of the first games I've ever played. Had a blast with this one. I think Brawl is better when it comes to the Adventure mode and character list (although I remember being a bit salty over the fact they replaced Mewtwo with Lucario. I like them both, I just prefer the first one), it's still a really good game.
I think this is a superior game mainly the challenges and the sound it makes when you get a trophy or anything really so if I rate it, it will be a 9/10
