I'm glad you got your wish with dog fights. I hope that's good. They also said jet skis have a 2P mode. Weird that Nintendo doesn't have 4P in dog fights or jet ski, but oh well.
Also, the fact that IGN Australia says most sword fights devolve into waggle fests and IGN US says waggling will never win is just a huge boost to the site's credibility.
@Adam: Drawing the dogfighting scene 4x is probably too much for their graphics engine. I'm sure it can be done, but they'd need to do some advanced stuff to get it to run at 60fps. If you need an example take a look at Mario Kart Wii's four player.
Sir Pix-e-lot, I don't know tech stuff, but Wii Sports does not seem to have a complicated graphics, certainly not compared to Mario Kart. I just know that the N64 was able to run 4P split-screen all the time, and if developers can't figure out a way to do it on Wii's superior hardware, they are creating problems for themselves.
Of course, it's doubtful that many will have more than two Motion Pluses at home, which is why I'm not super concerned here. I know I have no plans to get more than two Pluses.
Anyway, One thing you should take into account is that the draw distance and detail in WSR is much higher, and the planes have a fairly high poly count. Yeah sure, some N64 games could support 4player split screen, like F-Zero X and Mario Kart 64, but those are very bland graphically, drawing minimal polys at a time. Hell, Mario Kart used 2D sprites instead of 3D models.
I'm not saying it can't be done - Nintendo just didn't want to put in the extra effort to, among other things (online multiplayer comes to mind), improve their graphics engine.
No, I understand, and like I said, for this particular game due to M+, it's not a big deal. However, I think that excuse does get used a lot in other games where there really shouldn't be an excuse.
You say "some games" for the N64, but really, almost every game had it. It was the Fun Machine after all, and the Big N loved to boast its four controller ports. Star Fox, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, that South Park FPS, Chameleon Twist, Buck Bumble, lots of random 3rd party games. Red Steel and Mario Kart have proven that the Wii is at least as good as the N64 in this area. I really enjoy four-player games, and it always disappoints me when technical limitations are used as a cop out for a feature that was not only possible but prominent a decade ago.
Posting the review isn't up to me. They've said it will likely be up on Wednesday. I'll probably have it ready by Monday. I want to be sure I give plenty of time to each sport. As for the cycling, it was alright. Not bad. But it would probably rank near the bottom of the list of sports.
I'll try to throw you guys a bone tomorrow night and put up a list ranking the sports. Maybe toss in a few comments about them.
imo, IGN has the best reviews for all the consoles. Also, Wii Sports Resort is not worth fifty bucks. When I found out they were selling it for that much I just started cracking up. I thought the game was just a tech demo that came with Wii Motion Plus
Any fool can make things bigger, more complex, and more violent. It takes a touch of genius - and a lot of courage - to move in the opposite direction. - Albert Einstein on the Wii

You crack ME up!
Fun games are always worth the money. Ick, whatever. Tech demo'd brain wash
IGN: The holiday Wii lineup looks thin for the hardcore crowd. We see this. Gamers see this. What, if anything, is Nintendo planning to address it?
Oh good, I am neither a gamer or hardcore. Saves me from having to be IGNorant. Right, Down, A, Down, Right, Up

But this is not even about Wii Sports anymore.
Star Fox's four player multi has a very low framerate, as does Goldeneye's (about half the usual framerate). Isn't that South Park FPS a crap game? lol. I don't know much about the others. I'm sure some games had fine framerates in four player mode, it just requires a lot of extra coding to get the scene to draw four times at the same framerate.
But yeah, you're right. The Wii is marginally more powerful than the N64.
I've always enjoyed IGN's reviews over the years. While I don't get much of a chance to check them out very often anymore, I'll still pop in from time to time to see how they felt about a game after I've submitted my review. I think the challenge with reviewing Wii Sports Resort is just trying to squeeze in enough time with each sport to give them all a fair shake. But it's been fun trying!
