Topic: Frobot Impressions

Dunno if this thread has already been started, but if it hasn't, I'm quite surprised.

So anyway, I tried the demo, and from the time I booted it up, it seemed promising. The intro had some pretty comical dialogue, too. But then once I got controlling the Frobot, I noticed just how irritatingly slow he moves. Luckily, there's the option to boost for a split second, but that really doesn't help much. So, I ended up getting killed quite a few times because of slow movement. Then I got to the boss, and I had NO idea what to do. There are these panels on the floor, and when I step on them, they fling back some other panel on the floor. I thought you're supposed to fling back the enemy's attacks, but it did nothing. After going to the game over screen three times in a row, I decided to quit. And then my Wii froze.

Luckily I got my Wii to work properly after some time, but it really made my time with Frobot a lot worse than it already was.

So, anyone else wanna discuss what they think of the game?

Did you tap C a lot? He's pretty darn fast when you dash multiple times.

I LOVED the demo. Getting it sometime soon, for sure.

EDIT: Oh, and at the boss, you're supposed to put a mine on it and launch it.

Played the demo, I didn't like the slow movement speed but everything else seems ace, there's some great challenges and inventive puzzles in there. I'm unsure if I want to get the full game though. I definitely would've bit at 800 points but 1000 seems kind of pricey.

Have the full game. Going good so far.

Mine froze up too.
I was playing the Demo and during stage 2 the game just froze. It happened when I paused the game. My Wii was also making that buzzing sound that you hear during lock ups. I hope this glitch isn't in the full version or I may be less inclined to buy it.

^ Yeah my Wii was making some weird buzzing sound as well, but it froze up when I selected Quit on the Game Over screen. I doubt I'll be getting the full version.

And I'm surprised Corbie gave this a 9. I was expecting a 7 at most (what with my rather dull time with the demo).

I tried the demo and the collision detection sort of felt odd to me. While the game is 2D in concept, Frobot exists in 3D space, and is quite tall, so that a shot which is coming for your head won't actually hit you but fly behind your head, which felt unintuitive to me in a fixed-perspective game; the same thing happens when shooting at enemies, shots will go directly behind or in front of their polygonal presense. Besides this, the game did feel like it could be interesting, but it didn't really feel like the demo hit that point; I have to assume the puzzles get more creative later. I probably won't be picking this one up, but the dialogue is funny and the concept is sound, so I can see people loving this. Just not me.

I downloaded the demo and then the wii crashed-- "corrupt files". Luckily when it turned it back on, the corrupt files were able to be repaired or deleted or something (not sure of the exact message that came on). I thought the demo was kind of blah.

Wow I guess this game didn't get a very good bug check before they decided to make it availabe. If it's going to be corrupting my files then I'll be passing for sure. Has anyone tested this on the full version? I'm not sure what triggers the lock up but it happened to me after pausing on stage 2. After I read this glowing review I almost bought it. Now I'm not so eager.

Was the review written based on playing an Adobe Flash version of the game prior to release? The review was posted at 9:00 US Pacific on Monday.

As mentioned in the comments, Zaphod, the review was written based on a review build of the game that was provided to Corbie about a month ahead of release.

I found the trailer rather vulgar, so I won't even be downloading the demo.

Fugazo sent the review build of the game for the debug Wii about a month ago. I've been through the game at least 3 times since I got it. And now I need to check out this demo if it's causing problems I need to add that into the review. I knew I should have fired up the Wii Shop version just to be sure.

I just played The Frobot Demo.

I didn't have any Crash, or anything like that.

maybe because, I use my SD card, to play it.

I saved the demo to my SD card too... as soon as it downloaded and I tried to go back to the wii menu- CRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAASH. Corrupted files. Sickening feeling. Thought I would be wii-less for Christmas. I broke out into a cold sweat as I imagined the difficulty of getting Nintendo to transfer all of my wiiware games over to a new wii. I turned off the wii and turned it back on... and breathed a sigh of relief when it said the corrupted files had been fixed or deleted...
Probably shouldn't have fired up the demo after that, but I did... and it worked okay. Just didn't impress me, but I already wasn't in a great mood after the crash.

I just tried the Demo once more and this time it didn't freeze up at all. I don't know what caused it to happen before. Maybe just the Demo is screwed up somehow. I might still get the full version at some point. unless someone reports a problem with it too.

I've contacted Fugazo about this problem and I'll update with some news when we know something.

Okay thanks for letting them know about it. I did like the game well enough to maybe buy it someday. It's got style I'll give it that.
