I started this thread a long time ago, and it got some interesting responses, so I'm starting another one. I don't use the strap or the jackets; in fact, I sold the jackets, because I don't like the way they feel, and I'm not throwing my arms everywhere when I play Wii anyway. Besides, I hate being told what to do because it makes me feel like I'm 5 years old, so when Nintendo tells you "make sure you're wearing your Wiimote condoms" that makes me want to do it even less. I'm not going to throw the controller at anyone, and I've never had a problem with losing my grip, so I don't use either of them.
I like the jackets - but not any game that requires the remote to be held sideways. It just gets in the way. Otherwise, I like the added size it gives to the remote, especially when using Motion Plus.
As for the straps, I personally don't use them. But I will whip them out when I have people over, especially inexperienced or people with butter fingers (last time my nephew came over and was playing WSR he tossed the remote onto the floor while bowling).
I have a nice TV, and want to keep it that way. Does that answer your question about the wrist strap? As for the jackets, I would use 'em if I didn't have to take them off every time I wanted to use a Wii Wheel. Also, like ReZon, I don't particularly care for them when playing some of my favorite games--the Wiimote-held-sideways ones. I'm not bothered at all by having to put the WM+ jacket on because Wii Sports Resort is such a great game.
@ReZon, I'm with you there. I did keep my straps, just for that reason, and, once my nephew is old enough to play games, I'll definitely be breaking those babies out.
My brother chewed on all the wrist straps... so those have been effectivly ripped off... and i only use the jackets as a nice way to attach wiimotion plus, just slip all my unjacketed remotes into the jacket and presto! Wiimotionplus. Even before my bro chewed on the wrist straps, i didnt use em very often.
My first Wii remotes came with jackets and I've been using them since then considering how awkward it feels without it. I like the strap, I find leaving the strap off very discomforting as it tends to bump against my arm plus it provides me with better control on certain games like Excitebots.
I use third-party, thinner sleeves for my WiiMote. They're color coded. I also have one without a sleeve which is the one I use with my WiiZapper. I usually use the strap. I say usually because a few days ago I was playing Samurai Warriors: Katana and didn't use the strap. I was making an upward slash with my short sword ... I mean WiiMote ... and the darn strap hit me right in the eye. It stung for far longer than it should have had.
I have one of the old jackets that's on my remote. [doesn't really add on size, but has a really nice texture] I despise the new jackets' textures. They always make my hands feel sweaty. I never use wrist straps. They bug me, especially when I can feel them in NSMBW.
I use the strap on any game that requires flinging the remote around. Games like Super Paper Mario, which primarily feature NES-style gameplay, I don't. I've reserved the jacket for Wii Sports Resort.
I have one remote for Wii Sports Resort and one remote for everything else. Since the first is rechargable, should its battery deplete, I can always remove it and put it in the charger for awhile.
