I gave it a shot and didn't care for it. I'm not fond of fighting games in general, so for me to say "meh" isn't far out of the ordinary. It's fun at times with a group of people playing, but single player modes is boooooorrriiiinnnngggg!

I like the Super Smash Bros. series, but I don't love it like I used too. It's too simple to be a fun fighter, yet it's complicated enough for a party game that the one guy who actually plays the single player can dominate over all his friends who just like messing around in multiplayer.
It could use a little touching up here and there, and a few more third-party characters, but otherwise, its fantastic.
Think of all the Third-party characters who have been on Nintendo's good-side for pretty much the company's lifespan who got the shaft. Bomberman, Megaman... Instead we got Sonic and Snake, two characters who didn't even appear on the console until the previous console generation.
Fix: Oops, I forgot about Metal Gear NES. But that game was crap. Also, anyone who doesn't know which Metal Gear game I'm talking about, I'm talking about the Twin Snakes.
Love it! After playing smash bros, all the other fighting games just seem boring to me. It's also the number 1 party game whenever a bunch of friends come over.
I can see how you can dislike it, but I can't, under any circumstances, fathom how anyone can think it requires no skill. That's just ludicrous. Killer Instinct, Clay Fighter, and Soul Calibur are all games you can just button mash your way to victory when it comes down to it, but it doesn't work that way with SSB
IMO, its relative simplicity is PRECISELY what makes it so fun! I've never liked regular fighting games very much because they're too complicated and punish newbies too much (can never even beat the EASIEST difficulty of the single player modes).
@Namo: I may be misremembering, but I think briunj IS about that old.
I love the series, of course. It's absolutely supreme fan service AND awesome gameplay all rolled into one! It's also directly responsible for thousands of post-release Earthbound fans (due to Ness being in the the games), so it gets bonus points for that.

Well, whaddaya know.
I'm in the slim minority who played Earthbound before Super Smash Bros. Its one of the only RPG's I'll even play because it doesn't use the same boring plot devices from other RPGs.
SSB Brawl and Melee are amazing fighters. once you master the controls ect ect, you realise how much depth and skill is involved. If only Brawl's Online wasnt so terrible and lag free, I'd be hooked on it! Anyways Fox is my favorite character
And for SSB 4...they better have Mega Man, Little Mac and Simon Belmont as playable characters
I like it. If you dislike certain aspects of it you can adjust it to your wants. For instance I like to turn off the final smashes when playing against friends. I've never played any smash bros. game with a group of people and not see one person emerge over time as the more able fighter. This would pehaps suggest that there is skill involved.
I like Smash Bro's lots, it's easy to pick up and anyone can play, but has real hidden depths for those who care to look. Be it a precise brawl between two practiced players, or the madness of four player chaos, it's awesome. Also, it's hilarious too!
I was a bit disappointed with Brawl, but it's still a cool game.
