Hi All,
A dad here seeking a used Nintendo console for my little girls and me (we will play together).
I loved my old Nintendo consoles when I was a kid, and I want my kids to enjoy the same wonderful experience I had.
I want to buy a USED Nintendo , and I have found a few Wii and Wii-U for sell
Here's my question:
Is the Wii-U worth the price difference vs the old Wii? after all by now the Wii is now a very old system?
Here is an example form the used market where I live:
Wii-U 32GB original set + one game = $150 up too $173
or
Wii original set + fit (with Balance Board) and accessories (2 controllers & 2 Nunchuk, Wheel, Zapeer and ShotGun) + 13 games = $90
I don't mind spending the $150 or so on a used Wii-U as long as it worth the premium.
@ARXD It depends on what games you want to play? The Wii U will be replaced next year and won't be getting many games at all. What you're buying is what it is, there won't be much more. Anyway, if you're interested in Wii U games, get a Wii U (it also plays Wii games). Otherwise get a Wii.
Also, those 13 games, which games are they? If it's just shovelware I wouldn't even consider those as a bonus.
I'd say you're asking a very biased audience, as we all pretty much prefer the latest and greatest. But, I'd say pick up that Wii (not the Wii U) and have some fun with it. Mario Kart Wii is great for multiplayer, and assuming Super Mario Bros. is New Super Mario Bros. Wii, that will also be a great game for the family to play together. The others are great kid-friendly games as well. Also, if this is the original Wii, not the Wii mini (the red one), you can also go online to the Wii Shop Channel and download those games you loved as a kid and have your kids try those out as well.
I don't think, in terms of pure fun factor, you guys are going to enjoy the Wii U enough for what you'd be paying for it. I'd say get a Wii, Play with it for a while, and have fun with it. If you get bored with it, the Wii U's price will have come down by then, plus we'll know more about Nintendo's next system (codenamed NX) by then.
Hope this helps. My kid was three when he started playing Wii, and he absolutely loved Mario Kart Wii.
Recently finished: Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, Splatoon 3: Side Order, Donkey Kong Country Returns HD
Currently playing: Zelda: Skyward Sword HD
What's next: ?
If you buy the Wii, make sure you can connect it to your TV. Wii requires some older cable standards or an adapter. One thing to note, if you a big TV, Wii content will look very pixelated.
@ARXD Don't know how old your girls are, but my girl loved playing Super Mario 3D World with me and her Mum. It's a great family game and the HD graphics really do add to the experience. And if they're likely to enjoy Mario Kart then Mario Kart 8 is a must. I would choose the Wii U in a heartbeat after my experience with it.
You guys had me at blood and semen.
What better way to celebrate than firing something out of the pipe?
I ended up with a 32GB Wii-U.
Right after posting this thread I found another Wii-U seller that offer me the Wii U + 4 controllers & game pad + 11 high end games (that I can trade at the local store) for $196
The Wii-U is backwards compatible, so now I have the entire Wii and Wii-U game library available to me
If you want the ability to play games in HD get the Wii U. (Wii games still wont be in HD but at least they are played though HDMI connection and not RCA or component video, Wii U games are in HD)
If you want the ability to play (most) games with out the TV and just on the controller get the Wii U.
If you are interested in Virtual Console games (old NES SNES games etc.) get the Wii U because it has more features than the Wii version. (save states, off tv play, customizable controls)
If you are at all interested in buying games digitally get the Wii U because it supports USB HDD and has a robust eshop of indie and retail games including Wii games while the Wii has only tiny Wii Ware and Virtual Console games that fit on SD cards.
If you are at all interested in playing games online get the Wii U because all the Wii games have their online functionality disabled these days.
you made the right choice. the gamepad is so under rated. i use it to surf and the your kids can either play on it while you watch tv or they can even watch Netflix on it while you watch something else. plus, you get to play wii games anyway, which can be found cheaply. not to mention the Wii u graphic upgrade is significant.
which high end games did it come with? you may not want to trade them all in... especially if you don't know much about the games on the system, we can recommend the best and you might already have them!
also, the eShops don't have every retro game from the retro systems, but yes you'll still be able to download a lot of fantastic Wii titles on the Wii U.
