@Jarester Not a faulty disc. The game only offers a full save at certain points (after each castle I think), not after every level. In-between those full save points, it offers 'quick' saves that are temporary, use-once kind of things.
I used to get frustrated with the game because of this, dying and getting sent back a few levels. Frustratingly, once you eventually beat the game it unlocks the ability to save anywhere.
The best way to combat the frustration is to play some early levels a few times, collecting as many 1-ups as you can so that you've got a healthy supply of lives.

wow ok that makes sense at least it's not faulty thanks a lot
I absolutely love the fact that it's the best launch title for the Wii U. There's an even better way to launch from world to world instead of pressing the minus button on your wii remote in nsmbw.
