Before I begin, let me say that A Link to the Past is not a bad game, but a bad Zelda game. Now, let's continue.
I personally don't get how I see many people loving A Link to the Past. I personally found it boring compared to my personal second-favorite Zelda game: Zelda II. (My favorite Zelda game is Ocarina of Time, but comparing ALttP to Zelda II is more fun, as Zelda II is the most different in the series aside from Majora's Mask) The combat feels lame and repetitive compared to Zelda II, as it really put reflexes and skill to beat the common foe in Zelda II. In ALttP, the enemies are wimps. They die so easily, and the bosses are also underwhelming in terms of memorability. Zelda II's common enemy may die easily from a leveled up sword, but it still takes time to level it up. Also, the dungeons in ALttP was personally really boring and tedious, and I felt like just shutting off the game. In contrast to Zelda II, the palaces were PACKED with monsters out to kill you, and when I explored the palaces, I was scared for my life in case those damn knights come close to me.
...Yeah, that's all I could find bad about ALttP. The graphics are nice, the music is cool, but the gameplay just feels boring and tedious. And in a game in the Legend of Zelda series, that is unacceptable.
Go nuts.

Zelda II as your fave yet you don't understand what is so great about "A Link to the Past"? troll topic? cause surely you jest..
I don't think it's fair to call a link to the past a "bad zelda game" by comparing it to Zelda 2 because the second game isn't the standard for zelda games (you could call it the black sheep of the series). You're entitled to your opinion, but it's a bit strange to argue that it is a bad "Zelda game" by comparing it to the game least emblematic of the spirit of the series. It would be like saying Super mario bros is a "bad mario game" because it's not like super Mario RPG.
I get why peope like ALttP. It's definately not a bad Zelda game. It's not on my personal top 5 zeldas, Phantom Hourglass and its necessity in using the touchscreen for map marking to complete the Ocean King's Temple as fast as possible is my #1. Skyward Sword #2. Link's Awakening #3. Spirit Tracks #4(I know, right? But the dungeons were awesome, even if the plot was stupid. And sue me I like the train.) And The Minish Cap and its gorgeous sprites #5. Wind Waker is an honorable mention but it felt half finished.

While I accept the fact to why you dislike A Link to the Past, your reasons for gameplay are... minimal. Which doesn't convince me the slightest. And this
In contrast to Zelda II, the palaces were PACKED with monsters out to kill you, and when I explored the palaces, I was scared for my life in case those damn knights come close to me.
For being the one Zelda game I know from head to toe, comparing the two is unfair for one, and two, the outcome doesn't make any sense. Zelda 2's dungeon layouts for every dungeon are predictable. Your eyes are forced to witness the poor layout and constant color in the dull lifeless backgrounds and the dull lifeless dungeons themselves. Thanks to the SNES and all it's awesome graphical capabilities, ALttP's dungeons feel like there were creatures in them before Link came along. Easy on the eyes and actual whispered "Explore me Link" rather than the constant dungeon music being repeated... over... and over... snore
ALttP had original music everywhere you went. And the enemy variety is immense in ALttP when compared.
I liked the sword play in Zelda 2. It's not implimented well but the use of high and low jabs and telegraphed enemy strikes provides somewhat, although clumsy, of a precursor to the strategy involved in Skyward Sword. I wouldn't mind a sequal to Zelda 2 with similar gameplay, side scrolling and RPG. Obviously implemented to a better degree of course

At first when I started reading this I thought you had lost your mind or something. I mean, who criticizes A Link to the Past aside from a few tidbits here and there?
Then I saw you praising Zelda II. That is awesome.

You hate ALTTP because it's easy and boring to you when you like OOT which is actually much easier than ALTTP (in terms of combat)?
Hmm I can't imagine why people like Link to the past. It's only the Zelda game that started the full on Zelda craze. The original did well enough but once the snes hit with Link's big epic 16-bit quest peoples minds were blown. I'll be honest I barely noticed or even cared about Zelda until Link to the past came out. It was that game that turned me into the hardcore Zelda nut I am today. I was drawn into the huge world and my obsession began. I suppose next you'll tell us you thought Mario 3, or Super Metroid was boring right TC?

@ Viewtiful_joe Ah crap didn't notice that. Still though he who doesn't like Link to the past is one sad gamer indeed. What's worse is he claims to prefer Zelda 2 which is laughable in comparison. I mean seriously?

It depends on what you compare. The dungeons in Zelda 2 were awful. ALttP had amazing dungeons. But I guess if HE truly thinks this and that is better than ALTTP who are we to argue? lol

Hey, if you don't like aLttP, that's cool. I just find it odd that you love Ocarina of Time then. They're nearly the same game. :/

There can only be one, like in that foreign movie where there could only be one, and in the end there is only one dude left, because that was the point.
Maybe this Zelda game is more your liking [youtube:bNpLXo55yfw]

I remember two friends of mine trying to talk me into getting a Playstation instead of N64 back then because that new Zelda game (Ocarina) was just a 3D Link to the past. No joke they actually thought it was a 3D remake.
