Played for a little while last night. I cleaned up some quests in both Colony 6 and 9, then moved on to Eryth Sea. It's another beautiful area, and I'm having way too much fun with the teleporters lol.
@Heavyarms55 I've had some good luck with gems. The only reason I even bothered messing with the forge to begin with was thanks to the fact that I had more empty gem slots than gems at one point, but I have been obtaining better ones via quests lately.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
@NintendoByNature I've been using teleportation devices in games for years. My first exposures were the various Team Rocket hideouts in the earlier Pokemon games. Teleporting is both fun and annoying lol.
I also ran across that broken teleporter and figured it's fixed later on via the story or a quest. Looks like I was right.
I actually saved and quit just as I gained control of Melia on her own. My brain was almost mush at that point. I couldn't take more story that late lol.
@Tyranexx Ah, that's fair. I don't dislike the forge or anything, I just don't generally find myself needing it much. I'm sure there are people even more into this game than I am who know how to min-max it and get the best possible results but again, I don't feel that's ever needed.
Maybe in the end game if you want to fight the optional super bosses. Which I have never done because there's really no reason to that I know of.
@NintendoByNature If it's the one I'm thinking of, it's part of story progress.
@NintendoByNature I think Melia will be next after I feel like I have a bit of a handle on Riki. Gotta figure out how the Heropon ticks first!
@Heavyarms55 I don't dislike forging either, but as the game is long enough it feels like busywork after the original novelty wears off. I've used it a couple of times now, with longer sessions each time. I might use the small portable one a time or two just to try it out, but I doubt I'll do much forging past this point.
If there's no reason to fight the optional bosses only than to say you've beaten them, I'm not sure I'll delve into them much either. I'm quite enjoying my time with game, but I do know it's one of the longer JRPGs out there if HLTB is anything to go by. I'll probably end up taking a short break before starting in on the Future Connected epilogue.
Currently playing: Pokemon Scarlet DLC, Super Mario 3D World + Bowser's Fury (Switch)
@Tyranexx Yeah it is rather meaty, that's one of the things I like about it. But since the epilogue doesn't directly connect with your main save apparently, taking a break after finishing the main game sounds like a good idea.

So I managed to beat the game and also beat Future Connected (story in both cases, there's still stuff like collectables and side quests for both left). Fantastic game overall and I would place it as equal to XC2, both games do different things better. Hopefully XCX gets a definitive edition someday though if I get in a Switch game drought, I'll probably go back to my Wii U and play the Wii U version.
Timing worked out pretty well with Pokemon Sword/Shield's Isle of Armor DLC probably being released in around 6-7 hours. I'd guess the update and DLC goes live shortly after the Pokemon Presents presentation.
Even knowing full well what was coming, the Prison Island events were still emotional and epic! And even knowing the big reveal ahead of time didn't make it any less of a big deal for me. I love this game so much! Everything about it is just so good!
Now I've reached Valak Mountain and man! I thought the rest of this game got a face lift with this upgraded but.... What a massive improvement! I remember liking the area in terms of structure before. But it was also dark and the snow looked more like ash.
Also, King Agni's Tomb was such an epic side quest!

For the most part, I like the way they've done the quest tracking in this remake. It was nothing but annoying to remember which enemies I needed to kill to get side quests done.
However, I could have done without it for the search quests. The entire purpose of search quests is to SEARCH. So putting a giant marker where you the object you need to find kind of defeats the point, especially when a lot of them have clues in the quest dialogue. Also, for me, it kind of crushes my immersion when a game is like "let's figure out where to find X", and then the map tells you exactly where to find it.*
*It should be noted that I turned off the dotted line before I even started the game. The entire challenge of navigating the world is it's verticality, so having a line tell you exactly where to go completely negates that for me.
Finished the game recently, i feel like i am a minority but i do like XC 2 more. First game has better story, thats for sure, but combat system was more enjoyable in the second one in my opinion. The whole blade system was great. And i did actually like the whole play-the-anime feeling and stupid faces in XC 2.
Another thing is music, while first game has food soundtrack, second one has one of my favorite soundtracks ever.
Now i am waiting for XC X, hopefully monolith will make that happen.
@iKhan I can understand what you're saying. They should have the option to turn it off if you do not want it. But I think it's good to have it there too for those who do. The game is already a considerable time investment and I know people have trouble devoting 60-100 hours to a single game. It's great for people just looking to enjoy the main story.
@Quarth If you haven't experienced it before, you've got some real cool stuff coming up! (and if you have, you know!)

Yeah, I agree. I like when games give you the freedom to just enjoy a part of it. Where I have a problem is when they allow you to turn a "guide" feature off, but then neclect to make the game actually playable without it (Ni No Kuni does this)

@iKhan I haven't played that one yet. But it's on my list. I meant to buy it while it was on sale but got distracted by Pokemon and Xenoblade. But I agree. There does need to be a balance. The choice shouldn't be total hand-holding vs. Not even a hint. For the most part, I think Xenoblade gets that happy middle very nicely. When I played the game on the original release, I ended up looking up a lot of things like who can be invited to Colony 6, who trades a specific quest item or where certain items are found because I just didn't want to spend hours and hours and hours talking to and searching for things. So yes, the icon on the map does make it a little too easy, but at the same time, I don't miss talking to every single NPC in colony 9 until I find the one I need.
